Out of curiosity and boredom, I wanted to see just how far the first hired hand made it through this run. So by watching the stream and keeping track of the Hired Hands that died, we can see the full life of the the hired hand freed on level 2-3 at time 10:40. He is the first to be free and is therefore easily becomes the leader. Using this, we can see that he is the only hired hand gotten before Olmec to live past the hired hand self sacrifice incident at 22:37. We can deduce this because we can see that, when whipped and awoken, the other hired hands immediately follow to find the leader who has been safely placed down by the altar. We also know he didn't kill himself on the clam trap because of the hierarchy following him there anyway. From here till sunken city, no more hired hands are killed and the new crew of 8 hired hands enter the spaceship to venture to the sunken city and eggplant world. One of the hired hands that was summoned via the kali alter gets popped in a bubble trap, but no other casualties are had before eggplant world is entered. Eggplant world is traversed with little to no issue, with the hired hands taking a well deserved rest for their journey thus far. We then have a heart stopping moment where a single frog almost wipes out every hired hand at once, occurring at 42:43, but luckily he is dealt with before any deaths occur. They rest again as they and Twiggle know the sheer weight of what is coming next. Hundun. Twiggle and the hired hands enter with looming danger, and a deepfelt burning of hope, as they enter what could very well be the end at 43:58. The level begins The level starts like any other, the leader holding close to Twiggle and gets out in front, ready to face it all, as the others search the area for their next step. Sadly, four trap themselves in a pit at the start and are heartbreakingly left behind to save the rest. With their sacrifice, we can see the 2-3 hired hand emerge and follow Twiggle. He reaches an impasse which Twiggle climbs and places a rope down so that the leader might follow up to safety. The hired hands hesitates a moment, would this work? What if he didn't make it? What about everyone else, what would happen to them? Didn't they deserve a chance to be saved? He then clears his head, knowing they are lost but also knowing the best way to honor them is to live. He then jumps up with full faith that he is in good hands as he and Twiggle climb for their lives. Twiggle does everything he can to set him up for success, placing rope after rope after rope, and the Hired hand does all he can to keep up. Both he and Twiggle are cautious of every enemy, every trap, every jump that they have to make all for a chance to survive and fight Hundun to become one with the cosmos. Then, at 45:00, it is done. The Hired Hand is now effectively safe from Hundun. he is the one of eight to live, he is the first to have been freed. He feels the weight of everything as he is placed in the safest place he can be and he immediately passes out from emotional exhaustion as I imagine half of twitch chat did the same. This hired hand does not truly know what comes next, other than that he might become one with the cosmos. After the bodies of fallen friends are properly buried, the Cosmic Ocean is entered. The ending of this video is a culmination of trust, hope, bravery, faith, and is truly a sight to behold. Though his death was tragic, I like to believe that he became one with the cosmos in his last moments on this physical plane. I don't exactly know how this ended up being this poetic and strong, but I truly believe that this was an amazing journey from start to end. Thank you Twiggle, and thank you to the bravest hired hand I ever knew.

These types of runs are so entertaining! So is 8 the max number of hired help you can ever have following you? What happens if say you go into neo bab with 8 and sacrifice an ushabti?
i would assume any hired hand you encounter after you already have 8 on your team just simply wont be yours? like they'll just hang out by themselves and not follow you. That would be my guess @adamliddle4658

There have been so many times where I think, “Why didn’t he do this? This seems so much easier.” I can never come forward about it because he is probably the best Spelunker and I just have faith in what he does.
You could do a "Friend of everyone" run which basically is save or carry as many living things as you can like pets, shops like yang, hired helps, pets and mounts while also not killing hostile mobs
I’m pretty sure that the eggplant guy and the hired hand seen after the hundun fight on that bubble platform got there themselves. You can see them climb up while on fire for just a moment before they die.
Why do the bats in the character select not try to kill you? What makes a dark level darker than the other levels? How do those animals get so far in the caves? Spelunky is weird man...
I just noticed something, when you use the camera on the flying fish, they die. Does this mean when I went scuba diving I killed all of those fish with my camera?!
I've gotten four turkeys on the first few levels before, or a stray turkey on an otherwise turkey-free level, even if Yang is dead. I think the dwelling just has a chance go spawn natural extra turkey.
@@skin_lizard there's a chance a turkey can spawn on any level except boss levels although delivering all the turkeys to yang on 1-2/3 will grant Turkey boost which increases the spawn chance of turkeys
Twiggle I literally just tried this run yesterday and before I can share the idea anywhere you time travel, break into my house, steal my ps4, look through the screen shots to see that I got Tiamat ending with 8 hired help then completely invalidate my accomplishment by doing it better
