the true world class experience is dragging a bunch of people who have no idea what the tiki room is into the building and watching their confusion get progressively more intense as the show goes on
Literally my favorite past-time
Yes! I did this to my husband recently. He couldn’t stand it. I loved it.
That’s what my friends who grew up in California did to me. I was so fucking confused hahaha
Dude, just turn this into a tiki bar with Painkillers and coconut shrimp, and I’d spend all day in there drinking rum and talking to fake birds.
They kind of did with Trader Sam's
I totally came to this concept too!! Just imagine singing along and enjoying the company!!
Or you can actually enjoy the show instead of wanting to get drunk
@@sealy1 how i prefer to do things
I can't even find the words to convey my disbelief. You let Offhand convince you Living with the Land is World Class and then you FAIL the incredibly entertaining and relaxing Tiki Room! You have angered the gods! You are cursed to never again enjoy another Dole Whip in our beloved Tropical hideaway!
My mom went to the Tiki room right when it opened, and she, as a middle schooler, was so impressed with how they could train all of the parrots so perfectly!
I would riot if I had to go through Disney Dining Reservations 60 days in advance just to see the tiki room
It’s giving Figment energy
You can actually find Rosita (the missing bird from the glee club) near the exit for the Jungle Cruise.
Good for her! She wanted to be a solo act!
I have never gotten the chance to sit next to her. That is a small goal of mine.
Thank you for sharing this trivia, what a fun detail!
The Disney World Tiki Room is never going away. It's in such a good location with a small footprint. There's a flat ride next to it that exists 3x in the park, and many times I have seen people balk at the wait for magic carpets and walk right into the Tiki Room. I can't imagine what they could possibly put there that would be more beneficial to the Adventureland environment. It's a palace of air conditioning in an area with very little of that outside of Pirates and food locations.
It’s interesting to me how both tiki room and country bear jamboree were initially meant to be dining shows and the fact chuck e cheese of all businesses was the one to actually run with it
The Tiki Room was what my parents took me to to make me stop crying after I got traumatized riding Snow White's Scary Adventure LOL
I was terrified of mascots and full sized animatronics so this was a refuge for me lol
Thurl Ravenscroft is also the deep voiced singing bust in the Haunted Mansion!
And is also the original voice of Tony the Tiger!
You guys should add a piece of memorabilia to the set representing each attraction you cover.
As a former Tiki Room cast member, I’ve been waiting for this one!!!
appreciate that you guys acknowledged that its a place for people to sleep. because it is the enchanted sleepy room
What about the appreciating value of loving this attraction as an adult because you understand all of Jose’s sick burns??? Like kinda bored as a child, thoroughly entertained as an adult. Especially since I also now appreciate the historical significance of this attraction. (Also please take falling asleep to this pod as a compliment! Your voices are soothing)
You guys should include polls to see whether the audience agrees if it’s world class or not
Where have you guys been all my life? I developed a strange fascination with the history of Disney parks ever since my first visit as an adult 5 years ago. Your content is everything I didn't know I needed.
Love the Tiki Room. I went to Magic Kingdom recently and the entire theater was full. People are still enjoying it.
Yeah where is this 7min wait tiki room that one sounds nice lol.
Agreed. Every time we go (off peak seasons only), it's 70-90% full. We've had to wait the full length of the show to get in but still so worth it. We wouldn't wait 60 minutes though.
It’s always full when I’m in there
My favorite attraction ever. I recently brought a first time visitor, an 18yr old boy visiting from Brazil, and he was literally ‘enchanted’. Still a banger. Disney should do a better job marketing it.
Last time I went to Disneyland, we went through the Tiki room four times. I loved it. My best friend was a little weirded out by how much I loved it but she went along for the Dole Whip.
Okay, my mind is blown. I've been to Disneyland several times and totally thought the tiki room was a restaurant, so I never went in! Next time I go, I'm gonna check it out!
nooo ur missing out
Byron's history sections are always my favorite
PS - you haven’t truly enjoyed the ride unless you’ve done it on Tiki Day with a room packed with tikiphiles in their tropical finest

there's a Tiki Day?? :O
Tiki Room is one of the few attractions that has Walt's name on it (look at the sign.) It's an iconic piece of Disney history that should be better taken care of and preserved. While it's not world class to most of us in the middle, little kids and seniors find it charming. Here's my movie pitch--The Rock plays a exotic pet shop owner/animal activist who can't afford to stay in business. His beloved birds escape to go on a perilous mission to find a new home. They eventually stumble on an enchanted tiki hideaway in the jungle that gives them the power to speak. They're then able to create their own successful dinner show, saving themselves and The Rock from financial ruin.
I love this. The Tiki Room is already perfect, it just needs a movie adaptation starring The Rock to bring it back into mainstream relevance.
I'm not sure how, but I am ruthlessly addicted to this show
When I was a kid, whenever I would sing, whether around the house or in choir, my Grandpa always used to joke I should sing solo, so low he can't hear me. I didnt know it was from tihe Tiki Room until I was in high school. Now every time I go to the Tiki room I think of him ❤
Aww, that's so sweet. My Dad loved this attraction, and when I took my boys to see it (about a year after he passed), the jokes from the birds made them turn to me and say "I can see why this was Grandpa's favorite"❤
Nooo, this should NEVER be a restaurant. I'm okay with desserts, or a quick bite... but that's it. My Dad loved this attraction, it means so much to me now that he's longer here. Good episode guys❤
My first experience with the Tiki Room is now a joke in my family! I was 3 years old, my first time at Disney, and my dad told me there was singing birds. So I was very excited… however… no one said that the walls come alive too. So we got our seats, which happened to be in a back corner, next to the wall. I was entranced by the birds, but to my absolute horror, the wall next to me started talking. Cue me screaming bloody murder and my dad carrying me out the emergency exit 😂 I was so traumatized that I refused to enter the Tiki Room until I was 15, and even then I had to be bribed! But after that, I realized it wasn’t scary at all! But I was still terrified of the Tiki Room for 12 years… it’s funny now but man was I scared! 😂😂
I think Rosita is the animatronic they put over in the hideaway.
Yeah, she's over in the Tropical Hideaway waiting for a boat to take her to new frontiers
For the Hollywood test - have you seen The Three Caballeros? Arguably a tiki-roomesque animated feature from 1944 by Disney himself!
Every year during Gay Days at Anaheim in Disneyland, a famous LA drag queen (Worthie aka Momma) would conduct a choreographed singalong at the Enchanted Tiki Room. Disneyland would help organize 2-5 shows in the afternoon and each would be packed.
Unfortunately, Worthie passed away last year, just a couple months after conducting his last singalong. At his funeral, the GMCLA and a packed congregation capped off the service with a choreographed singalong of We All Sing Like the Birdies Sing.
Hopefully someone carries on his legacy and the Tiki Room singalong continues at Gay Days. If it does, I highly encourage you to attend. A full room singing along is just as magical as you imagine.
this is so wholesome, I wish video existed!
Just yesterday I was listening to a podcast where they went and recorded the audio for the Tiki Room. When the show started I started singing along...while wearing earbuds and no one else could hear what I was listening to. ... on a crowded bus.
This podcast has been a relaxing distraction for me during the end of an abusive situation. By the next upload, i will hopefully be in a safer place
I hope you’re doing better now ♡
@KYLO_JEN I am doing much much better now thank you so much
I've never stopped being as enchanted by the show as I was when I first saw it as a kid in 1984.
Came here from Spotify to say I would definitely eat at a tiki room dinner show
Rosita is the bird entertaining outside at Tropical Hideaway. That's what happened to her.
brb, making the thumbnail my desktop wallpaper
I think people would recognize the main song even if they weren't as familiar with the show! Some of the famous Disney songs are known even apart from the attraction, "It's a Small World," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah," "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow," etc. And they do play the Tiki Room song at the Esplanade and other places with background music, so I think people would actually recognize the song.
Also I think the main birds still are in the colors of the flag of the countries they're from, aren't they? Maybe aside from the British one, since that'd be the same colors as Pierre
It’s world class !
People leave singing the songs!
Never a line because they found the perfect length of the show - and it’s a fast load / unload.
Replacing it would impact the entire land.
You don’t dress up for podcasts of other shows. You are podcasting from a tiki room.
… it’s all there!
The tiki room is so special! I genuinely think you can still feel Walt’s passion for it to this day. It’s charming and cozy and so full of life even after all these years. It literally feels like stepping into a classic Disney film - it’s timeless!
I'm just now realizing that they made Maui into a clock. Despite the fact that he existed before clocks. It really shows how "creative" and weird they were getting with the designs of the Hawaiian gods.
Last time I was at Disneyland I was in the preshow area for Tiki Room enjoying a Dole Whip. The line at Aloha Isle was backed up to past the entrance of Indy. I overheard a lady complaining about such a long line just to get ice cream. One woman who I didn't know and I had one of those weird moments where we say the exact same thing at the exact same time looking at each other and saying "Someone's never had a Dole Whip before"
The older I get the more I appreciate the Tiki Room as just a really beautiful fun attraction to sit down and enjoy AC and be entertained. There's always so much going on it's never boring to me, and it definitely gives you a moment to feel that calm nostalgic feeling and feel like you're on vacation as you said. Seeing some of your clips I definitely learned some things since I have never been to the DL one. You guys have a FOUNTAIN? Really cool.
2 things. If i heard there were closing Tiki room, i would plan a trip to go see it before it closed. It's amazing! My kids (all under 9) really like it too.
Tiki room could be rethemed as a cantina a la Oga's Cantina. Some prefix drinks and small bites. Then the show runs on the hour and on the half hour. The bar can sit in the center of the room. All ages could go in. They could have bar height tables and booth style around the edge of the room. They could even serve Dole Whip desserts/drinks.
my mom hates birds, like HATES, she went to this at like opening day more or less, she was a little kid...this was her literal nightmare! NOW......she's an adult (obv), and she loves this show, AC, tunes....if it's NOT world class it should be! Can't wait to see the results in an hour+!!
Rosita is in Tropical Hideaway. So thats what happened to her 😂
If they did a tiki room version of Oogas cantina that would be sick!
What I learned from you today makes The Enchanted Tiki Room, a world class attraction. For me. Did not know about the Hawaii connection. You guys should have a tour or a show and talk about your rating of the ride with a mass of fans following you around. Makes for more appreciation. Usually we just rush through to get to go on all the rides we want.
Definitely as a kid the room would sing it when I visited( the 90's)
I remember going randomly one time and not seeing Iago or the plant lady pop up like the old version and just being devastated, like tears in my dole whip devastated
We need a FYA Tshirt with your tests on the back. Then when I’m at a theme park wearing said shirt people can play along for every ride… then I can tell them to listen to your podcast 😉😅
The tiki room in disney world is one of my strongest childhood memories. that was about 40 years ago. I love it so much.
I want what Ryan and Byron are having. This episode is glorious.
I love the Tiki Room, the fountain would mesmerize me as a child, and the song where they all go bonkers is my favorite.
It’s world class! The history alone makes it world class. You can stop being world class, it’s in the dna.
One of the most magical shows . The essence of Disney. Thanks
Ohh guys, Rosita’s working at the Tropical Hideaway now, didn’t you know?? Hahah, I was waiting for y’all to make the connection, since you also mentioned the bird at the hideaway, THAT’s Rosita! When Jose mentions “I wonder where’s Rosita?” it did make me wonder if he always said that, or was it added after the Hideaway opened, but I clearly noticed it when Rosita got her own show there. She went off to do her own thing! Btw, great ideas for a movie version, I would see that!!
Goods:
-The extra cushy padded benches at DL
-And the way that the back row of benches at DL have corners, so if you're lucky and nobody sits next to you, you can put your feet up and stretch out is just 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
-"LURK, LURK, LURK" from the preshow at MK
Bads:
-No Dole Whip swirls at DL - plain pineapple only :(
I literally never heard of the Tiki Room until i bought one of the cds in my college disney phase. I wish to be on Ryans level when it comes to stanning hahaha
I unabashedly love the Tiki room. Purely because of the first memories I have of it seeing it with my parents. We had no idea what was going to happen. I saw the stitch version about a month ago and loved that even more. It’s not an absolute must, but a great reprieve from the sun and standing.
I get the bao and lumpia and eat it in the tiki room all the time. It’s fun!
Did Byron say “meow back to the show” during that first ad read?
He almost always does and I never know why. Maybe it's an inside joke between him & Ryan?
Does he look like a cat to you? Is he jumpin' around all nimbly bimbly from tree to tree? Is he drinking milk from a saucer? Do you see him eating mice?
😂😂😂😂
@@novalyn.shelby lol I love that movie so much (have a feeling these two chuckleheads do too)
I asked him about this recently in the FYA discord and he said it’s a super troopers reference and just a lil Easter egg he hides in the ad sections 😂
This podcast is my favorite to fall asleep to, but i always come back to give it a conscious listen through as well
Same!
As someone from Hawaii going to the enchanted tiki room was painfully cringe. it was only a matter of time that this was covered 🙃
someone from Disney watching the Hollywood Test: Nah lets make it the plot for Moana 2
fun fact - rosita was in the most recent jungle cruise movie!
if they do make it a dinner show they should make it a quick service so that you don't have to get a reservation and you could just walk in and still watch the show even if you're not even eating, like sonny eclipse at cosmic ray's
The bird at tropical hideaway is Rosita!!! During sing like the birdies you can see she is missing from the lineup.
THURL RAVENSCROFT IS ALSO THE GHOST HOST 😭😭
Caveat: I don't see this attraction being removed, but I think it's on Disneys list of potentially controversial rides that need "fixing" due to the stereotyped characters. At best they might just record the dialogue with authentic actors. But we could see an Under New Management version 2...
The bird mentioned at the Tropical Hideaway (next to the barker tophat) is "Rosita".
Would love an episode solely based on y’all taking Matt Real to Disneyland Resort World Class Attractions and getting his reaction on them. Top it off with Mickey ears and dole whip. He’d be in good hands 😄
i need a muppet vision 3d episode i fear
I've been a passholder and a California native my whole life. I have never been in the tiki room 😂 but maybe next time im in the park, I'll have to check it out!
The use of Tiki and characitures of war chants are probably more offensive than the accents, and I wish that was also addressed. I could be incorrect, they could've consulted someone for it, but its still dubious in its accuracy and respect when coming from that era.
This podcast brings me so much joy
Excited to finally learn about the inspo for the set decor
When I took my mom there we ended up doing the Tiki room 5 times in a day. Yeah it was hot out and it had the easy to get to ac, but we genuinely loved it enough that it never got old. Love the Tiki Room and always will.
In the trailer for the "Tiki Room" movie, the credit for Javier Bardem comes up and then it changes to "Javier BIRD-em."
I am a Disney world pass holder and I had never been to Disney until I was 26, yet a dole whip in the tiki room is a must every visit.
1:03:12 “Does it have to be a good movie?” 😂
I wish I was a relevant person because I wanna come on and fight for star tours: the adventure continues lol
Waiter! Waiter! More FYA pod please!
Antonio Banderas as Jose
The fact tht no of them took like a Rio approach for the movie like I can definitely see a movie of birds singing and dancing
Cast Pedro Pascal in that movie and you have a hit! 😊😂
17:11 a perfect impression of “what’s going on” from the crazy frog cover of axel F
I really need a bts of taking Matt to the Tiki Room, everyone has Dole Whips in hand, to see how this attraction stacks up
The drummers crescendo at the end is always amazing. Weird Al used to act out the whole thing in his live concerts.
I'm actually surprised that there have never been talks of a "Moana" makeover...
Bring me on to fight for Tiki Room's world class standing! Tiki Room was the first animatronic musical review. Without it there'd be no Country Bears, therefore no Chuck E Cheese, none of the Chuck E. Cheese rip offs, Five Night's at Freddy's etc. Also, kids and their parents, sentimental adults and theme park heads love this ride. Teens-adults in their 30s with no kids who aren't Disney heads might not get it - we shouldn't judge it based just on what this group may think.
Yep I love the tiki room it’s my favorite
My wife and I went to Disneyland (for the first time since we were kids) for our honeymoon 25 years ago. The Tiki Room was our first attraction, and it has remained 100% world class to us, ever since. We've since been back many, many times and absolutely count as "Disney Adults". We try to hit the Tiki Room first, even now, but we're too practical to blow a rope drop morning on it. We're nostalgic, not crazy!
Anaheim Hotel used to be our go to place, but the prices are just astronomical now it’s pretty crazy. Definitely the hotel of choice due to proximity and price back in the day.
Im 45 years old, living in Europe. I have visited a Disney park (Orlando) 3 times in my life. Once in the late 90s, once as a parent, and once as just me, alone, only choosing the rides I felt were iconic. I chose the Country Bear Jamboree, Haunted Mansion, Its a Small World, Winnie the Pooh dark ride (it was new and I was curious) and the Carousel of Progress. I had the best day ever! 😅❤ Oh, and I had my first and only churro. 🥰
You guys are about 25 years younger than me…I remember this being a primary attraction with huge crowds and long waits up until I was about 30.
Okay I don’t know if this is true, but I was told on a tour at Disneyland that back in the day it took a very large computer to run all of the birds, and that computer was in the basement of the building. Apparently the reason they have everyone stomp to “wake up the birds” was actually to let the person at the computer know that it was time to start the show. Obviously it’s run by a much smaller computer now, but they kept the tradition of “waking up the birds”.
Or at least that’s what I was told!
ngl, after the hype for so many years, i walked away really disappointed by the show and the dole whip... But i still enjoyed this episode and enjoyed hearing how much you love this show.
Make that a real event and I’ll be there
Gonna be real. I enjoyed Under New Management. I thought it was hilarious. Of course I was also a fan of Stitch's Great Escape... Now that being said, I was so happy when they brought back the original Enchanted Tiki Room to MK, and did not know it was only because a fire destroyed one of the Iago animatronics at that point. The female animatronic bird Byron mentioned with the Barker's little hat and cane, is Rosita, the same bird that Jose asks about in the show.
It’s world class in my heart 😭
I love the tiki room, if you were in a bad mood going in, your in a good mood coming out
