I've got a lot of Caseta switches, they work great. I'm looking for a switch or switches that will both control 2 seperate circuits, like a virtual 3 way that isn't wired a 3 way. Do you know if these are capable of that or know of any others that may be?
Will Lutron smart switches work with lights that have photocell and or proximity switches. So that you turn these lights on and off. I assume you can put pico remote into the circuit as well.
Did you ever find out any more information about having the claro smart at location 1 (Line side) or the 3 way circuit? I just installed a Claro smart on a 3 way circuit with mech switch at location 2 (load side) and had the same issue you had.
Brett. I believe when box says "FAN 3A" they are talking about an exhaust fan like one would have in a bathroom. A multi-blade ceiling fan, that is 1.5A. So if you wish to control speed you need a switch specific to 1.5A fans.. For that you would use the Lutron PD-FSQN Caseta Wireless Smart Fan Speed Control. Thanks for making these videos.
Is it possible to have 3 way with dimming functionality at both ends without a pico? can you use diva smart dimmer with maestro at the other end for example?
@@beckymwinslow I'm looking to do the same but I have a lot of 3 and 4 way switches and I'm not really into the picos. It sounds like the accessory switch that is going to come out at the end of the year will work in 3 way with the dimmer but it's not clear if it will have any dimming capability.
You cannot have multiple dimmers on a 3 or 4-way if one of them is a Caseta Diva dimmer… you are limited to one Diva dimmer with either Pico, Caseta Pico Paddle, Caseta Accessory switches, or mechanical dumb switches (NOT dumb dimmers like a Maestro). Just did one of these installs the other day. It’s all laid out in the Lutron Advanced Installation guide online. In case we get lazy and don’t want to walk to the other side of the room to the one dimmer I’ll just program a Pico remote in that circuit.
@@thomaswildepiano1024correct. Just did an install the other day. The Caseta Diva will be the sole dimmer. The Accessory switch is On/Off/and double-tap On to 100% brightness.
From what I heard, there are no changes to the Pico remotes. The Accessory Switch will be toggle switch (compatible with Diva & Claro) that you can connect like the mechanical switch but it has the same style as the Claro switch. This will allow you to use it in up to 10 Multi-Switch locations.
You jumped shots between & install & lost me. Also glad you showed that the setup made your lights flash! Something is inherently wrong with the Lutron switch & you’d think for $70 they have them work perfectly
Thanks for this video. I have a 3 way light. One is in the house, one is in the garage. If I install the Claro inside the house, but go to the garage to turn the "dumb" light on, will the led in house light up? I find myself opening the door to the garage to see if the light has been turned off when I could just see from across the room.
I believe Brett has a link above. He also said that they're just starting to come out & he's seen them at Home Depot. I'd guess you could also find them at Lowe's & Amazon too.
I did the same install with the claro smart 3-way and got the exact same strobe issue. I also ended up switching the location after hours of trouble shooting with Lutron customer support, but I feel that there must be an error with their wiring diagram, and it could have potentially been solved in the original location.
I have one Caseta wall switch, as well as a lamp plug-in controller. These are controlled by remote switches through a smart hub that came with the wall switch. I would like to get a couple more Caseta switches, but the price is beyond unreasonable. Looking for some cheaper brand.
I had the same strobe issue with my old style caseta switches. I ended up removing them since I never got it fixed. I've got a feeling that it's some how related to a GFCI plug that I think this electrical box some how shares with my bathroom plug. The two boxes are basically next to each other on opposite sides of the wall and I believe they are sharing some wiring. I'm no electrician. I couldn't get the switch to work in the other location at all. I do like these switches I may purchase 1 to see if I can get the new style to work in that location. $$$ just to test it.
I gave the new ones a shot. No dice. Still get the strobe effect. When set up like the wiring diagram I can turn off/on from the caseta switch fine, but when I turned it off at the mechanical it would give the strobe effect. The only place I see the second option wiring diagram was here. I have no neutral wire in my secondary location so the location 2 option was not an option for me. I put back in my Zooz switch and it's working fine again. Too bad I really would like to utilize these switches. Thanks for the helpful video and something to try to resolve my strobe / flashing light issue.
Dang, sorry it still didn't work. It is pretty odd and I have heard others have the issue. Lutron says it is because of an imbalanced neutral line. I believe this means a neutral is not connected properly on the circuit which is the causing the issue. So a Electrician my be able to find the issue but it might take some work.
Thanks for the video and the work of showing how to connect them. If I follow how the new Claro and Diva Smart switches work, they can be used with existing mechanical switches in 3 and 4-way scenarios, saving money in the long wrong. I just started setting up the Leviton smart switches. Based on instructions, you can not use existing mechanical switches and have to use the Anywhere Companions to replace the mechanical switches? What will the Claro Accessory switch be used for?
The Lutron Accessory Switch will be similar to the Anywhere Companion. The Claro/Diva can work in a 3-way with mechanical or accessory switch, with a 4-way the accessory switch will be needed and can used in up to 10 locations.
@@TechWithBrett awesome, it'd be fun to meet up. It'll be my 3rd one in person since 2020. This year was interesting because of the low imperson attendance and vendors pulling out at the last minute. I still enjoyed it though, no crowds!
A few options have worked for this. You could get a basic Lutron Motion Sensor switch. They aren't smart but it is great for a bathroom where it will turn on when someone enters and turn off when no one is around. WeMo switch's and Kasa have the option to automatically turn off after a certain time of being on.
Thanks for the fantastic video! I have a question- will it work if you replace the regular mechanical 3way connection with claro at just one end (leaving the second end with its mechanical switch) just like you did but then also pairing that claro with a pico remote control (making it actually 4way connection with one mechanical, one claro and one pico) ?
Do you have a neutral at all in your box? I have tested a bunch of these and the best option might be to use the one where you add a remote receiver to the fan and then keep the switch on and use the remote to control it. amzn.to/3V2FPAS

Strobe light warning that made me laugh of the dance is was so funny. I laughed with tears because I can't resist it but it was chaos a with strobe light but takes hours and hours to fix it. I agree what you said calling the company is the best idea but it takes hours
Just moved into my next house and left my entire Lutron system behind. Starting fresh here. I saw your video and had to chase down a few Diva smart dimmers to kick off the launch of my new house smart lighting system. Gotta say, I LOVE this dinner much more than the OG dimmer. And now I have to get the new standard smart switches everywhere too! Thanks for the pointers!
As you found out, wiring smart 3 ways is not easy. When I bought my Tessan 3 way dimmer kit I was baffled by the instructions. I had my company's electricians take a look and even they were confused. Just trial and error. Bottom line, just install a pico and cap off the other wires.

Yes, if you adjust the other light it will reflect on the Claro switch if the light is on/off with the light indicator.
