On this episode, Matladi expressed his options brilliantly without being distracted, interrupted,or trying to fit in a joke. Well done boet.
Matladi’s way of asking questions💀 but also, Gugu was saying that she wasn’t for gender roles BUT I think when she was asked what she expects from a man she kinda suggested that she is for gender roles. I’m not even halfway through this episode & I’m realising that some of us aren’t really against gender roles but we just want to twist them a bit so that we’re equal in the relationship. Everyone must equally put in the work but we also want to receive some princess/prince treatment from each other as partners.
Invite Gugu again on one of these, a females perspective is actually refreshing & opens up the convo
Can Gugu be a frequent guest,I love her perspectives and just her aura man
Just noticed that we do a lot of tiptoeing around a lot of topics. Very sensitive, I don't know if it's a strength and a weakness to our society...
To a point of not really saying what we think and stand for.
I Cannot ignore how anxious Matladi gets ...I hope he is ok
Yet he is intelligent 🧠
@@vanisamantile665 absolutely ❤
Saw the topic for today and I ran to this video! I've been fighting this notion of having prescribed gender roles since highschool and I'm so glad more of us are having this conversation. Not everything is pink and blue💪🏾💕🤩
'Chakalaka is basically vegetable salad'🤣🤣that was personal😭
Bring a table or a couch to make the guest or panel comfortable/more free to just relax and talk. Love the content 🔥❤
Can i say. I've been watching this podcast for actually a very long time without saying anything and i think its time i do. This is such an effective sit down conversation that I've always wanted someone to talk about it. To us as those who come from the normalised family things like Gugu said it really is hard to change that norm as well as live it among our parents and all those who watch us grow(idk if i make sense) but yes. For me for example I'd want a man who cooks not on a daily but i just wish my man cooks and does general things that a human being is able to do without that gender rol thing that "men don't do this" or in some households men dont make their beds they wake up, bath and go to work and women are expected to do that. So living in such an experience made me want to actually want something different just because of how i wish personally my mother would be more free to also live her own life while still in marriage. I love these conversations and i hope there is more to come pf these sit downs where discussions of wierd normalized things are put on the table and actually diagnosed.
EAQUALITY
I'm definitely Pedi Pedi😂but moreover I believe in a partnership.
Gender roles work within the system of the world, in a general sense but within a relationship it all boils down to understanding and knowing our individual strengths, that will make what we are building work. Mostly because in relationships we deal with where did you grow up? How did you grow up? What did you take from your childhood and the traumas it came with it?
Nicely said !!
Thato please keep up the energy you had even when Sis G.U is not around 😊
Lol sorry I will, the prep of the podcasts really takes a toll on me before we shoot
Aii Matladi was on point in this episode, I agree with his starting points on why he believes in gender roles, not saying we should be fixed on that, saying one person should do this because they're a woman or man, but I do believe we shouldn't deviate from God given abilities in attempts to rebel against the notion of gender roles. If one gender is better than the other at doing something, and that should be used effectively to build a home/society etc. but that shouldn't always be the stereotype we place on people because of their sex, or carry out an expectation on how they should do things because they are of a certain sex, it can get quite frustrating, for example, if we can both as males/females do something well, but the onus is placed on only one of us to do it because that's the expectation. I love being a woman, I love the traits that make me unique to a man, I don't want to compete with a man either, but I wouldn't want a man to box me into certain roles because I am a woman and in the same breath, I love it when a man portrays certain traits that are different to me as a woman, like protection/stability etc. Thanks for the conversation guys! It was interesting🔥🔥🔥
Eloquently explained!
The best part of this podcast is that there isn't any agenda thats being pushed. It's a genuine conservation and it's comes across...which is hard to find in this day and age 🙌🏾💯
Matladi asks v valid questions
Right !
All the time.
Matladi on this episode is on par! The questions and his opinions did not only end in this episode. I'm here trying to answer some of them. What a great mind!
One thing that shapes my perspective is realising that everything we do and believe was made at some point based on circumstances at the time and then observations. So things like gender roles are not naturally inherent, we can change and adapt based on our circumstances and preferences.
Danko!
Lucas's vocalbary is one of an LLB graduate
I’d really also love Mpoomy Ledwabas perspective on this exact topic I know she’ll have a lot to say, I love love this panel though❤️ And Matladi spoke such truth today shoutout to him‼️ oh and ZilleWizzy as a guest would be dope too
Gugu is sooooo pretty and her energy is amazing 😍😍😍I bet Lukas is sooo excited to have her because he was gashing over her soothing her voice is the other time 🤣I haven’t even watched this video half way but I know this video will be awesome 😎 also shout out to flex 💪🏾 because oh well him and thato are giving us the best visuals and the boys yo!!!!!!!!! Always a vibe 😋
Today's one really needed a part 2 or just needed to be a lil longer😭🤝🏽
Matladi is so cool🔥
Coolest
Matladi is such an inquisitive person 😂
I think an interesting facet of this conversation that could have been explored is gender roles within a cultural context like cultural rites of passage…
Matladi 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you for this episode Thato!
I think the abortion conversation was so important in light of the conversation of gender roles. This conversation happening about gender roles is an extensive one and I hope you can have a segment where you can have people who specialize in this field to sit and have these chat with yall. Its important conversations and your platform has a great reach.
The moment Gugu said “because men are strong therefore I expect protection from them” she conceded. She believes in gender roles🤷🏾♂️
Danko!!!
@Nhlonipho_Oakenshield No😂that’s absolutely not true, we were not born to protect women, we just genetically stronger but that doesn’t translate to “protect women” it’s a social construct that compels us to do so not nature. The nurturing part is famously debated, there’s no one study that concludes definitively that what you’re saying is true.
And if you’ve been following her channel and the conversations with her friends you’ll know that she does believe in gender roles
Oh how I love Gugu, her presence is so angelic she's looks great too
I absolutely agree with Matladi for agreeing to gender roles and also on what Lucas said that there is always a grey area. I think, because we fight so many imbalances in society, we sometimes don't want to draw the line because it looks like we are contradicting what we said, just like Gugu said she expects protection from a man which is a "gender role", but she is not for the notion of gender roles, she emphasized that there can be a grey area and that's totally okay. Personally, I am only against gender roles when they are limiting, there are some instances when I am in favour of gender roles, just like growing up I didn't clean the yard because that is what my brother must do and even today i haven't unlearnt that and trust i know better, but no ways guys, iMama will just bring black plastic bags and watch you clean🤣but other than that great episode guys💞
The comment I was looking for
This was by far enjoyable from start to finish. Very insightful. Loved how each and everyone reasoned and stood for their opinions in an educational way. Great having the female perspective, and it sure couldn't have been a great start without Gugu! Thank you guys for these quality conversations!!
matladi just eyeing on gugu🤣🤣
l could listen to gugu all day she is well spoken
Haibo he was listening 😂😂
Thank you for bringing one of my favourite youtubers. Gugulethu is really amazing and I resonate with her so much. I fully agree with Gugu's statement that just because something has been normalized and done for so long it doesn't make it okay.
Nah, Matladi was on a roll today🤣😂😭
Rock and Roll
🥺💥
I agree with Lucas there's a lot of grey area when it comes to gender roles. I think a partnership is a balancing game . Identify where my lover falls short or when his shoulders ain't strong enough to carry the load and help him like Thato said tag me in and I'll hold up the fort until you get right . In Isizulu we call our partners "Umsizi wakho " your helping hand. Role's should be assigned based on merit and your strength at that point in time .
Gentleman please offer to pay for the morning pill at least!
When the idea of having a woman be featured on the podcast was brought up, I literally thought of Gugulethu. She should be part of the team honestly, we love her
Overall, beautiful conversation❤
Sis G.U 🗣🗣🗣❤❤❤you got the right one 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
In terms of the fundamentals, everyone has a belief of gender roles instilled in them, knowingly or unknowingly. It affects us, and it shapes us as a society. It's just a matter of how far they can be stretched and redefined.
Absolutely love Tladi on this one ❤️
enjoyed this episode, felt like it should have been longer, or it needs a part 2... i agree with Lucas on not seeing girls when you are going through a tough time financially, especially when you know you like to treat your person. Doing that actually saves you from breaking your own heart.
Love the quality of the visuals and the interior 👌Super excited to see Sis G.U 🥺❤️
Haaa past tense after 2 minutes yoh haai… u can tell the future sester
😂😂😂
The setup is too klean! Too good! I truly enjoyed listening in, i think what Gugu mentioned when talking about feeling safe around a partner is a very important thing. Learnt alot from today's conversation. Thank you guys
Gender roles were formed as a result of a structured society, where there was a level of discipline and a sense of authority that we don't have today. They obviously don't make sense because some of them have been lost along the way (especially the empowering ones) as a result of wars and all the terrible things we endured in our recent past as people. The gender roles we were left with were just a means of survival, now we are moving past survival mode and trying to create meaningful lives again, they don't make sense. Gender roles will change based on where we stand in society as a whole.
Quality at it's best
Not a lot of men can speak honestly about this type of stuff because for us it's easy to get bashed over our opinion, but women are allowed to have an opinion no matter what it is because on social media women have the right to freedom of speech. Men who speak freely are considered misogynistic
Tladi the GOAT
I agree with Tladi, I believe in proportionality. The one with more money has to contribute more in a relationship ❤️
Somehow when Matladi suggested a women's perspective I knew my girl Sis G.U would make the first appearance. It's always great to have her on the podcast 👏
She was amazing
Absolutely love this studio and the quality!!!👏🔥🔥
Always looking forward to the podcast! Love the team! ❤Magnificent work Thato!
These people are so intellectual and outspoken.. This podcast has a very huge potential..
Gugu is so gorgeous 😍
Matladi ke kodwa, ngaze ngamthanda.😍 this was great Thato. Also Lucas is husband material and that's on purr. Sis GU is always a vibe, I love her so much.❤❤❤
Matladi is a character.
I wish you guys touched on the abortion topic, but I also get that it's quite wise to not. It's a very sensitive topic
I hope I'm not late...
First of all I would like to say I learn a lot through the podcast, Everyone on set is giving vibes👌 Y'all bring light to life, I'm going on 30 I'm 9days n I can say I'm more than ready for anything life throws at me because of you guys.
But honestly today I would like to crown Tladi2.0👌🍾🍻 I've been watching podcasts from the very start n let me just say I'm growing with @Tladi2.0, I feel so emotional watching him blossom, it's crazy how I see myself in bcoz I'm a female😅 Matladi I just want to say you doing well👌
Gugu is definitely the voice
Listen, this is one of my favourite conversations to have. Interesting to see different perspectives.
I personally don’t believe in gender roles and judging by how Matladi wants his household to run I think he is more flexible than he thinks.
In terms of strict gender roles dual income households where ya’ll equally financially contribute or ya’ll contribute in proportion to your income is not a thing when we’re looking at binary gender roles. Men are providers, woman are homemakers.
That’s society’s standards. A homemaker cannot be providing and visa versa.
I think we live in an era where gender roles is becoming obsolete. Dual income households are more of a necessity so strict binaries can’t exist, otherwise someone will always be doing more.
Like ya’ll said, everyone needs to play to their strengths regardless of gender.
Thank you Thato for the platform you've created for such NB convos, and for bringing Gugu on.😍
Shout out to Tladi 2.0, such a brilliant mind always raising solid questions .
Lucas, brilliant mind.
This was short, y'alls perspective on this very topic is beautiful 👌
✨✨✨
this needs a part 2
@tumishonkwana is goated!!!
I listen to this on Apple Podcasts then come back to watch it here. Love the set up ♥️.
I'm with Thato on the gender roles view. Fully believe in them but i dont necessarily feel we're obligated to live by each and every gender role within our romantic relationships. THIS WAS YET ANOTHER WHOLESOME EPISODE. Also love anything Sis G.U is in !!
I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation guys... in fact I felt it wasn't finished, but definitely highlighted that the topic is broad and an ongoing conversation we should actually be taking seriously. Much appreciated. Also i like the new background.
Guys it was an amazing conversation enjoyed every part of it. Hearing everyone's different but necessary opinion was great. I especially loved Matladi saying everyone needs to play to their strength
Matladi : Who is A ?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dats Y I love me Tladi 2.0 🥰
Tladi's questions 🤌🤌 give it to him pls,, since 1st episode

I really enjoyed this episode,
I think I enjoyed the fact that there is a women's perspective more than anything and Gugu was perfect for this one❤️😊
I love the studio,top tier❤️❤️
Loved having Gugu on ✨
What a lovely episode, wish it was longer 😔..we need a part 2 with Gugu
This was a great episode the best one so far from season 2 and thank you guys so much for actually being consistent🤗
I found that Thato "OFFER" mini-rant towards the end so hilarious 🤣
These type of conversations among young people are so necessary! I literally enjoyed this episode so much because it broadened my mindset, it challenged the way I saw things etc.
Enjoyed this episode so much, keep it up!
Some things are a “norm” simply because God said so, it’s as simple as that. God knows best, you do it your way you’ll always fail.
Great conversation 💯 . I’d listen to you guys all day
Love Love this conversation🥺 but I wish this was longer.
I love this episode. absolutely amazing. secondly, congratulations on the new setting. we're here for the wins. 💐❤️
Thank you sm ✨✨
I’m leaning SO SO much towards what Matladi said about gender roles.
I think people have a very much nuanced way of seeing gender roles but I personally believe in them.
Gender roles are also part and parcel why movements such as feminism will never work or thrive in a society.
Gender roles are there for a reason.
Women aren’t designed the same as men and visa versa. It’s not meant to be that and that’s why it isn’t.
As women, we like to say “yes but we are or all should be equal” but also very quick to be the ones that say:
"I shouldn't be expected to cook, clean, nurture the children, or take care of the home because gender roles don't exist. But WE expect MEN to protect, pay OUR bills, take the trash out, build a house, change the tires and the oil because THEY’RE MEN and that's what MEN do."
This is how modern day feminists think.
But ke… lemme leave here
Some gender norms are more practical if you take biology into consideration.
So much improvement and growth, from the sound, stands and the space...
Thank you ✨
Thato is a pedi man fo shooooooo !!!
99 percent Pedi
Loved this episode🥰🥰such an informative conversation
Anyway Thato please sayyy Hii to Matlady😍❤my love too much that one
I love his sense of humor
You really know how to pick great topics bro, love it 😁🙏keep 'em coming
Finally sine perspective ye thekeni 🔥🙏Thank you malume
Thato always rushing to end the episode sucks. It shows that he is working
Spot on reasoning capacity! Insightful as always and life changing♥
You got mic stands 🎉😂
😂😂😂 sorta kinda
We need some sort of structure and a general way of doing things. We can’t live in a laissez fair system. Even in the animal kingdom there are gender roles and some form of structure and system to govern how animals live and interact with one another . So I agree with Matlidi. I think what they missed is that he did not limit anyone or restrict anyone from exploring what they wish to as far as gender roles are concerned_he just stated that the society has more to benefit from sticking to gender roles and than doing the opposites thereof.
I high key agree with Matladi🔥, Thato is really putting too much pressure on himself..Yess we get the idea but listen to how we responds & says he'll bounce back & cover from the back nkarr he's indebted to his partners help💔.. no bro 🙏🏾
we’d love seeing Gugu again ❤
I am loving this conversation 😍
MATLADI HAD A SOL PHENDUKA MOMENT 🤣🤣🤣🤣if you didn’t catch it waaa Phenduka boy!
Matladi is carrying this podcast😂
Honestly 👌😢😍 he's really killing it
Loving Tladi2.0 tho. Such a guy. S.O to sis Gugu and our usual gang gang. Danko
Yah ehh pumpkin (lepampune) are whack…Danko Lucas for representation. All veggies entlek except potatoes and chakalaka 🤲🏽
But what is seven colours without Pumpkin 🤣☹️?
I think the issue of gender has roots in practicality and biological. It would be weird if anyone whether a man or a woman carried a child for 9 months and not want to nurture it. However I dont think they are rigid and shouldnt cage people as Gugu said. Penguins have fascinating gender roles, the female lays the egg, then leaves to go and find food while the dads stay behind keeping the egg warm until it hatches probably because of the environwment they live in it works and if it was different they would adapt accordingly.
Now the protection side of it, the question we should be asking is why do women feel more vulnerable than men and what do we need to address it?
Absolutely loved it. This is the content that gets to me. Loved it.❤❤❤
The way Tladi says Thato😂
Link ka Tumisho? you said you wouldn't forget 👀😹
I put it 😂😂
i learn something from these guys every time 😭❤appreciate yll
