  • In this colorful presentation, Bill Gette will show you an amazing variety of mid-summer wildflowers that flourish in area fields, along forest edges, in wetlands, and beside country lanes. Mid-summer is a great time to search for wildflowers. Bill hopes this presentation will encourage you to go on a wildflower walk. Bill will open his presentation by showing you examples of flower parts (e.g., axil, petiole, sepal); review flower reproductive parts; and discuss flower types. All of these charcteristics are key to wildflower identification.
Bill will then provide species accounts for over 60 wildflowers, including Herb-Robert, Wild Bergamot, Indian Tobacco, Dwarf Enchanter’s Nightshade, Allegheny Monkey-flower, Arrow-leaved Tearthumb, Yellow Pine-sap, Boneset, Canada Burnet, Turtlehead, and Downy Rattlesnake-plantain. For each species, Bill will discuss the origin of its scientific name (an amazing subject in itself), traditional uses, reproduction methods, and other interesting information.
