Doris Thompson lived until the grand old age of 101, she was not afraid of any rides up to her spectacular 100th birthday, when she went on the Pepsi Big Max and other things.
Poor yvette on the revalution roller coaster she was absolutely terrified and just screamed her head off but she holds the record for the worlds longest scream god bless her
@coolcabbage43 , Sorry mate let me fill you in. I spent a lot of time on the Pleasure Beach as a child in the 80's and I have very fond memory's of the way it used to look. As a child you would think wow that Big Dipper looks huge, not any more LOL.
I'm surprised that yvette didn't lose her voice after all that screaming 😂😮😢❤ but poor yvette she was absolutely terrified on the that roller coaster the revolution bless her she just screamed her head off! I think she holds the record for the longest scream mind you I think I would scream like that if I went on it but it's the most memorable moment on blue peter over the years and I think the world record was just in blue peter

www.ukrides.info it was one of the worst days of my life when I found out it had been removed😩 But it's really not Pleasure Beach's fault, from what I've heard they couldn't get it insured anymore as well as too many idiots complaining😡. So don't be angry at Pleasure Beach be angry at the people that caused it to happen in the first place. If I ever win the EuroMillions I'm going to rebuild it in my home town somewhere.
Back then anyone could enter the park for free such as Grans and Grampa's that just wanted to watch their grandkids on some rides then greed kicked in and the park charges all now. Parking near by is also driven by PURE GREED!
A few years before the Pepsi Big Max dominated the Park. Used to love the famous Funhouse in my grey stockingfeet. It was my favourite amusement shown at 1:43-1:47 so sadly burned down. But Maxim's Flying Machines are still here today.
What on earth is the Pepsi Big Max? You sound like you are well informed and have been to the Pleasure Beach, you could at least get the name right. It was called the Pepsi Max Big One when it opened, now it's the Big One.
@@handsoffmycactus2958 I was there this weekend and it literally still has Pepsi Max branding on the can-shaped start point, and pretty much everyone was calling it 'the pepsi max', with a few calling it 'pepsi max big one'. I didn't hear anyone just saying 'the big one' tbh.
@coolcabbage43 Its a classic case of things move on at the end of the day and like you say it brings people to the park which is a good thing. I remember being annoyed when the Monster was remove to make room for the then called Play station. Each to there own I suppose.
"She's 85 years old and still testing the rides"... I like to think that in 2013 she's still alive and somewhere is an 100+ year old still testing rides! :D lol
It didn't really it was the way it was cut. They start playing the sound from the next cut early so it's a quicker transition. You can see when the camera goes in front they've moved around and everyone is in place ready.
That's all Yvette knows how to do. Scream. Just like Most Haunted. She has managed to forge a career out of looking hysterical and screaming. No talent required.
LOL I remember her as a young actress, in a kids sitcom set in a B&B in Blackpool, called 'Seaview'. Only watched it cause occasionally you'd see the pleasure beach! - And I think even then it was mostly about her screaming at her brother's pranks!
Gosh she is SO annoying. It's lovely to see the great Mrs Doris Thompson though. She was fantastic. Sorely missed, this lady even rode on the Tango Ice Blast when it opened! (Then known as PlayStation: The Ride). Incredible woman.
i might be wrong but when i went on the Grand National in about 1986 you each had an individual horse to sit on not in a train car and i'm more convinced that you just held on for dear life because there was no safety belt or anything.
Hi ElkieMart. :-) I think you're referring to the Steeplechase, its still at Blackpool so you can relive the memory if you like! lol It now has a safety belt though!
Wow, the old lady is brave, she rode avalanche!!! And said it was brilliant! Old people SHOULD go on rides! But beware the girls, they give y'all a headache! And no, I'm not from texas
Was there an accident on the Avalanche soon after it opened? I'm sure I remember people dying but my initial, surface level research can only find one fatality at Blackpool.
Hi James. There was an accident on Avalanche in 1997, but it opened in 1984 so it was open a long time before the accident happened. It wasn't very serious, 1 of the guide rails broke just before the brakes so the train didn't quite align, and the brake fins hit the brake pads rather than passing through them. The train stopped suddenly, but has already lost most of its speed by this point. There were a few cuts and bruises, and one little boy was taken to hospital for observation because his big Dad was sat behind him when it stopped suddenly. If you can find "Blackpool Pleasure Beach The Series' on youtube, the accident features in one of the episodes.
Ah, thanks. Perhaps I was just a macabre child because I was sure I remembered an accident on the Derby ride too (the horses on tubular rails). Granada Reports (ITV regional news) obviously lied to me. The only fatality I can definitely remember is the lad in Space Mountain in 2000.
Ah, there were plenty more...! I remember someone standing up on the Grand National, while I heard many tales of people falling off Steeplechase, & given even its current design it IS quite plausible! The park itself looks a lot better in the 80s than now the rides just look more awesome
It WAS Ryan, there were rides everywhere, and none of this 'open space' rubish!
+www.ukrides.info and I bet it was cheaper back then as well
what do you mean by Open space
That plus they where open in the dark far more often as well.
I agree
Wonderful footage.
I've Been To Blackpool Last Year Back In June 2018 And It Was Super Awesome. Thanks Mate. X
Wonderful memories from holidaying in the 80s! I am now 51 and still visit😊

Yvette was my absolute favourite blue peter presenter
Brilliant vid! Fun to see what has changed and what is the same. One of the best vids I've seen of BPB. It captures the excitement of the rides.
hahahahaha, i did not notice that at first! i nearly spilt me cup of tea when i saw it.... one of the funniest things i seen all week...
Mark Curry what a legend! And as others have said, 2:26 is just hilarious.
