    i like what you said about having a plant. reminds me of an ancient quote:
    _to be happy for an hour, take a nap; to happy for a year, get married; to happy for a lifetime, have a garden._

    • @anthonyhamilton6843
      @anthonyhamilton6843 7 років тому +3

      Wouldnt the marriage happiness last more than a year or was this quote taken from hollywood?

    • @Jeff-tj4tx
      @Jeff-tj4tx 7 років тому +7

      anthony hamilton just ask guys who have been married longer than that. 4 out of 5 will tell you to stay single.

      The garden part means have many plants in your life, the nap and marriage are plants in the garden

      I tried joining the military, cardio got addicting. I used to hate pushups when I was a little kid, now I love them. Bored? Drop and do 20, Feeling weak and useless? well drop and push the depression away a good 20 times.. etc..

    My car got broken into today... Shattered window, and sound system stolen. I felt proud of myself for the way I handled myself, specifically my attitude. It could have been a lot worse... In the end, it's fixable, I still have a working car, and I'm still alive. Attitude is key.

    Your last point about fitness really struck a chord. I have not worked out for 1 year and kept postponing purchasing a gym membership. Now when i look back, i wish I had not procrastinated so much. I finally started working out though. Thanks a lot Alpha!

    Seriously, this is one of your best videos. Towards the end of the video i felt as if you were really talking to me. I felt as if what your doing is truly for all of our aspirations. What your doing is great and i don't doubt your sincerity at all any longer. Great video

  • @Sunflowrrunner

    All good advice. I've suffered from self esteem issues quite a bit myself, but in the last year I've really made an effort to change myself for the better. I think that is a really key step - you must realize that it is going to to take a conscious effort as well as a physical one to change and at times it will be difficult. Another one for me is I had to quit drinking so often and smoking pot every day. You can't think as clearly or be as motivated to achieve goals when you're fucked up all the time. Something that really helped me to get on track is to start writing down goals. Everything from to-do lists like "get groceries" to fitness goals like "run five miles" and general personality goals like, "Be a hard worker at work, don't slack off." Nothing makes you feel better than being able to look at the things you actually achieved or motivates you than to have to stare at a list of shit you need to do.
    I also really recommend keeping a journal so you can review your wishes/wants/desires and figure out what it is you want to do or more importantly who you want to be. You need to start from where you are and make incremental changes. Figure out what shit you're doing that doesn't work for you and what you need to do to change it. Look at what you like about yourself and how to improve it. When I first started this process I was overwhelmed with negativity, but I started to slowly chip away at goals and see change in myself and have slowly become more confident and hopeful.
    I think I can identify with Ben's outlook. I used to always identify with the opening line from the Radiohead's "Talk Show Host" - "I want to be someone else or I'll explode." and now I've realized my own value change I've changed my mantra to, "I want to be a better me."
    Anyway, I hope this helps someone.

    Don't think how good you are just think that you are. Judging yourself and others is the root of all evil.

    • @josephang9927
      @josephang9927 10 років тому +9

      My depression almost disappeared when I stoped caring about what people think about me.

    • @SussyBacca
      @SussyBacca 10 років тому +4

      Joseph Ang If our parents don't praise us enough we seek it out from others in destructive ways, and people use praise and condemnation to lord over others and install themselves as each others masters, I think people possess genes that seek confirmation of worth, or they seek out destruction/get depressed and live in a holding pattern until they acquire the praise the gene needs. That gene may help weed out murderers and hedonism and help shape a conforming society of beings that can survive together, but judgement is a different animal. People misuse it as praise or to condemn others and its not for that; judgement is illogical without attaching purpose or worth for a purpose. You can judge an apples worthiness of being eaten, how good someone is in bed, but when you judge someone or something without attaching a purpose, you cross judgement with praise/condemnation, and your life goes to hell. Its the root of all human suffering.

      I had an amazing Friday, I was surprised at how things were working out. I talked pretty confident and nice to a girl I have never talked to and talked to a friend with confidence, security, manlyness and made a pretty nice handshake.
      With the rest of the people I had good posture, didn't say bad words, spoke clearly and said a lot of please and thank you.
      The thin was I was conscious of what I was doing and how I was behaving so I let simple but nice stuff came out of me.
      Also I managed to listen more than talk with a friend on Thursday... that has never happened xD
