A tiny moment of weakness in this film that Kubrick let Douglas go full on "actor" with the "you can go to HELL!!" moment.. for me its slightly too much.
the pressures responsibilities and allure of authoritative positions within organizational structures shape and reshape men. there is no reason to believe dax would be the exception, regardless of his ethical convictions. it stands to reason he would have lived long enough to become as craven and disingenuous as his predecessor, or be ousted as quickly as he arrived. dehumanization in the heart of the death machine is complete and total; the world spares no comers.
No comments on this master piece? I pitty you.
One of the greatest anti-war flims of all time.
Menjou was brilliant here. And so was my favorite Kirk Douglas..

Kirk lucky to have great actors around him to help out, Menjou is immense here.
Would you like me to suggest what you can do with that promotion? LOL
He should have taken that promotion - what better way to ensure that Mireau would not be succeeded by another Mireau?
He was too emotional to think straight

Dax seems rather naive about
Corruption in high places
Should have stayed in the trenches
With all his troops and not gone
Over the top!
He was only now just learning about how corrupt things were. He isn't naive per se
