In most democracies, primaries aren't a thing. Each party nominates their candidate and people pick one of them in the general election. Primaries are one of those American idiosyncrasies, you know, like the electoral college and 2nd amendment. Not saying it's bad, just that it's not absolutely necessary for democracy.
