    I've owned both pellet grill (Traeger Timberline) and the Masterbuilt. The best way I can describe it is pellets are clean they burn clean (which for me = no or very little flavor.) Charcoal on the other hand I describe as "dirty" and when being burned you get that Charcoal (dirty if you will) taste which I prefer and is why I have sold my Pellet grill and keeping the Masterbuilt.

      Very true! I do love that charcoal taste, the Masterbuilt definitely has a much richer flavor

      What about the noise factor of the pellet smoker, is it loud enough to piss the neighbours off in the middle of the night?...i'm thinking of buying one for the convenience.(for cooking not pissing the nieghbours off)

I throw it on the pellet and walk away... Im starting to see why guys with BBQ channels have 5-?? grills / smokers!! Time and place for all of em!! Can you really have to many grills???

I honestly don't smoke much, pretty much a chicken eating fam, but loved the flavor of our buddies Traeger and was about to buy in when I came across this! Can I use the MB daily for chicken like a regular BBQ?

    Good video, why BBQ if you don't get that smoky flavor - Charcoal all the way even if it does burn more fuel than the pellet grill. Been debating on which to get, I think this puts me on the Chargrill path, Masterbuilt is okay, but the Char Grill is a bit more heavy duty and has a better chute architecture.

    Love the review. I ordered my Masterbuilt a few days ago based on yours and several others review. I’ll be a charcoal guy till I die. Every grill I’ve had has been some form of coal at the bottom design. I really like the idea of the pellet grills, but lack of smoke was the complaint. It really seems like the master built addresses this issue while giving you the pellet configuration. Would I be correct to say that you haven’t done any searing with the Masterbuilt? I’ll check all your videos to look, but if not I would really love to see you do a couple of tomahawks!

      Thanks for watching and the comment! I actually did do some reverse seared ribeyes on the gravity a few weeks back, the video should be in the Masterbuilt playlist!
      I could have probably executed that better, but practice makes perfect!
      I will say, I’ve never felt like the pellet grill lacked any flavor. It is definitely more mild, but delicious none the less. I have also formed some incredible bark with the pellet grill as well!

    Found your channel the other day and subscribed today awesome videos bro!! I bought a Pit Boss Vertical platinum Brunswick smoker and love it. My grill finally took a shit and now I’m looking at new grills. I’m wanting a grill/ smoker combo because I hunt alot especially hogs. I’m gonna use it for grilling I would say 70% of the time and have been eyeing this Masterbuilt along with the Cuisinart wood creek , clermont and the pitboss platinum lockhart. One pro I seen about the Masterbuilt is you can run off an inverter with a lithium power tool battery. On the masterbuilt if there is any charcoal left in the hopper when you’re done cooking do you have to allow the remaining coals to burn off?

  • @CarlosAlvarez-hw1je

    It's funny when you mentioned how loud the fan on the pit boss is. I recently got the pit boss kc combo and that thing is super quiet compared to my other pit boss. I think it's the variable speed fan in the new one because it has PID controller.

    • @MrBigKid
      @MrBigKid  4 роки тому +1

      I’m pretty sure you are right! My pit boss is 2 years old now. I’m pretty sure the fan on the Masterbuilt runs on a PID loop as well, hence how quiet it is. Also makes for very low temp swings!

    Great video, thank you for the comparison. I will always perfer the added charcoal flavor to my foods however for a pellet smoker in order to get any "deep" smoke flavor i found that you cannot smoke anything past 225 max to get the flavor. The smoke setting-225 is the only way i found to get it. It takes longer but it is well worth it. Also didnt traeger just get sued because of their pellets being crap? Just food for though. Thank you again for making me hungry

    Have you had any issues with the amount of heat that the lump coal puts out? I used to use that El Diablo lump coal in a solid brick fire box grill when I lived in an apartment, and the heat of the coals burned a big hole thru the brick over time

    • @MrBigKid
      @MrBigKid  3 роки тому +1

      I don't think I have had an issue, however for some reason briquettes seem to perform a bit more stable for me, and seems to be a bit more controlled.
      I haven't really had an issue with the lump, I think I just like the briquettes better.

    What would your results have been had you used a true vertical pellet smoker? I have had a Pit Boss Classic and the new Pit Boss Laredo pellet grill and find I get a much better smoke flavor from my Pit Boss Series 3 vertical smoker than I do from the pellet grill. I also find the pellet grill a pain where I can't take a Bayer asprin to clean.

    • @MrBigKid
      @MrBigKid  4 роки тому +1

      Hey JA I actually haven’t tried the charcoal pellets yet. I absolutely LOVE both grills, but if I had to pick one... I think it would be the Pellet grill out of pure convenience, and open-flame searing.
      Personally, I like the grill style Pitboss due to the direct flame searing ability. More times than not I am actually grilling with the PitBoss instead of smoking.
      The Masterbuilt packs some ultra good flavor, gets hotter and can create a better bark... but it isn’t as efficient as the pellet grill, and takes a little more work to get started.
      For me, having both is awesome! I get the flavor and quietness of the Masterbuilt, and the convenience of the BBQ easy-bake oven “pellet grill” :)
      Hope this info helps!
