Even if you aren’t a fan of the genre itself, there’s no denying that bluegrass musicians are some of the most disciplined and talented musicians.
That’s because unlike electric you have no where to hide mistakes. If you miss notes on the runs everyone knows it. Bluegrass pickers are some of the best technically gifted players especially if your a guy like Billy. He’s worked his ass off to get this clean. Thousands of hours with a guitar in his hands. Great flatpicker.
Every time I get on UA-cam and see one of his videos I say to myself ok I will watch just this one and then get on with what im on here for. Then twenty of Billy's videos later I cant remember what the hell it was that I got on UA-cam for.
James Franks lol me too
a men same thing happens to me
Same here ✌🏼
Same here dude. Thanks for sharing 😁
What are your favorites?
Doc would be proud, very proud...............
Billy's voice is *THE* pure _essence_ of that bluegrass sound. Big things ahead for this kid.
I gave up on music and new talent about 10 years ago. then I came accross this kid at a party on a couch playing Dust in a baggy. Since that time, his videos have introduced me to Michael Cleveland, Molly Tuttle, I'm with her, and some others. Folks let me be the first to tell you- there is still talent in music today and it's all in this genre. Billy Strings and Michael Cleveland are probably the two greatest talents in music today. Thanks Billy for renewing my faith in music again.
I never herd of Michael untill I read your comment. I listened to the mountaineer by him. Fuck me that got my foot stomping as soon as I herd it. Thanks so much for that !!!
All the good music will never be heard on the radio... unfortunately, you have to dig a little to unearth talent! What a fun treasure to find though!
@@cmk4633 Same here - had never heard his name, but had seen him on a few Billy Strings videos and thought he was awfully good.
Makes it look so effortless - could listen to the guy all day
I don't do much else all day.God sent him pretty sure We needed him so badly.
I do 😂
Yes!!! Amazing as always. Doc lives thru William .
Through you too, dude!
Before listening to this video, I was like "hey, that's sacred Doc Watson music: thanks for your hommage but please do not pretend your version is comparable to Doc's one".
Than that young blond Billy Strings came on the stage, blew my mind and kicked my ass. I'm soooo impressed!!
Im stunned yet grateful that this guy isn't a household name. One of the best artists out there. Living fucking legend
Hold that wood pile down Billy. Absolutely amazing!
Could listen to him play rhythm all day
Amazing
Good stuff!!!!!!😎🎸
Doesnt get much better than this.
You know...i wonder...if it werent for technology and convenience and mostly the ABILITY to be heard now days.. My god how many others before billy and these other gifts from god were around and just never heard? One MAIN reason i support our rapidly growing technology...Music🎼🎶🎵
So damn good

Wow!!
I learned Doc Watson's version of this on guitar then found it more enjoyable on the mandolin. Fun song!
Wow 🤩🔥
I am pretty sure this kid made a trip to the Crossroads.
Yeah I think he did too. I also think he might have gotten the best of the Devil on this trade! Reason I say this is cause, if there's a God, and I'm pretty sure there is, he's bound to like bluegrass! So in the end, Billy 'll get the to the pearly gates and hopefully some of these talentless, Nashville hacks who've made millions defiling country music, will have to face the fire, brimstone, and 24/7 Polka music and Lawrence Welk for eternity!
@@jeffballentine3951 wow you did some thinking on the subject lol. I agree.
Gotdamn Ballentine, I Lovea Thinkin Man.
And that folks is how to make love to your guitar!
We need lessons with Marcel to transcribe this!!
i like bluegrass now
This song is actually derived from an Irish chanty! (Irish version found on YT)
next transcription ... :P
I had to look it up but "Hold That Wood Pile Down" is a reference to moonshining and revenooers on the prowl.
what a natural sounding microphone anyone knows what this is thanks
The mics are from Ear Trumpet Labs, most likely Louise on vocals and Edwina on acoustic.
This is also sung as a sea shanty or at least in the same structure
The Tillers also do a great version!
You are New Young Guitar God like (Tony Rice and Doc Watson and others guitarists)
I wonder how much practice it takes the average person to get this good?
That's just it - the 'average' person can NEVER get this good. Billy has a very special gift ... cleanest flat picker since Doc.
Id love to see him get in a session with Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper.😲🎸
Maybe a million hours.
10 to 20 years I'd say. Depends on natural ability. Took me around 10 years
Like a banjo playing friend told me you are born with it. You don't learn it.
🍺
Fucking insane
Unless you are a musician of some kind you have no idea how much work is involved in being as good as Billy is. Look out Tommy E!
Pretty much had it in his hands non stop since he could hold it
Could have sworn it was a D18, sounds so light, so good.
Great version, I still prefer uncle Dave macon's version but this is very good
Prison folk right here
Almost looks like a cedar top.
Talking about to add value to a guitar.............
Ridiculous
Beautiful but why he abuse the guitar with that Capo
Only way you can pick that fast with those runs. Yea they call it a cheater but Tony, Doc, Clarence and Billy can cheat any time they want.
