I love John Waters. I love all of his movies, his books, his stand-up, his interviews, his art - he's one of the most unique artsts who's ever lived. Also, he said "expresso." He still has so much Baltimore in him.
I loved the comment about running around the country with a print of the movie in the trunk of his car, conning theater owners into renting him the space to show MULTIPLE MANIACS for 200 dollars, and either people showed up or the didn't. That became what was known in the Seventies as "four-walling". John was, once again, WAY ahead of his time!
"Polyester" was the first movie I've seen of his and I've seen all the rest of them over the years, so Polyester is of sentimental value and I thought it was his very best until I saw Serial Mom. Serial Mom - - I just felt proud to be a Waters fan, even prouder than I'd been before. Serial Mom is a masterpiece. Nearly 30 years later it never fails to break me up. it's his very best.
I agree. Speaking of thanks, it would be great if Maniacs came out on DVD in November, so I could actually give thanks for something...and buy it for myself as the last thing before I have to buy Christmas gifts. EDIT - It came in the mail the day it was released in March and was definitely worth the wait.
I hope he makes another film soon. What ever happened with Fruitcake? It was supposed to be filmed in late 2009, an Xmas film in bad taste. The independent company must have went under. I miss his films. Would love to see a sequel to pink flamingos lol
Awful interviewer, sorry. John gets going in the middle, but loses interest after that, and I don't blame him. Still, great to see, thanks for uploading.
I didn't get this movie until I saw it in the theatre- the dialogue is tedious in some parts- but what is great about it is some of the camera work.. On the big screen, it's down right scary in some parts.
I saw "Pink Flamingos" in '73-4 at the "Midnight Movies" in San Diego at 19 years old. I was freaked out! That was the weirdest shit I'd seen yet and I'd spent time in Long Beach before that. Just ran across "Multiple Maniacs" at the Movie Trader. Watching it tomorrow.
I was 20 years old in 1983 when I rented my first VHS of Pink Flamingos. It was a bad bootleg that went black for about 5 minutes before Channing was caught imitating and dressing like Connie. Now I have the New-Line two-fer DVD package with Female Trouble. It's never leaving my house.
John Waters is great, a legend, a visionary. This interviewer however is beyond dull, and subsequently found him at times to be grating and unwatchable
I enjoy every interview with John Waters. But people need to remember to mic the audience when he's there. His one-liners, double entendres, and bad jokes seem lame when we can't hear the audience reaction.
I notice in most of his interviews, the interviewer themselves often miss what you mention because they either aren't fully listening to him or aren't listening to every word and let him finish or too anxious to ask their next question, a common bad trait with most interviewers.
I'd love it if he made a Super-hero movie....the hero could "The Schnauzer" and his arch-nemesis could a ventriloquist doll dressed up as "'Lil Hitler"....give him a side kick called "The Miniture Schnauzer".

And really most of all "Hairspray"!
I agree. An American treasure.

Finally, another Christmas Holiday Classic for all to own and embrace is now available! Let the heart cockles be warmed again!
Happy 70th Birthday John Waters
Thanks for uploading this. Love John Waters. :D

AWESOME INTERVIEW...THANK U SO MUCH FOR THE UPLOAD!
Seems so cool

I saw a recent interview where he said he couldn't get the financing for the film, it would have been his 17th.
no one like John Waters! love him and his films

I love John sm
went to the movies to watch it a few weeks ago!
it was a great evening 👍
his comme de garcon jacket
The interviewer is alright, but I'd love it if he waited to let the talker finish, so he doesn't come off as he interrupted him
John Waters is real. Thank you John.
So dope director
John Waters is just a fascinating person to listen to.

Genius.
It seems like John was Divine's handler.
the puke scene in Hairspray was canned peaches. Amber throws up on the carnival ride
Like the practical tips this guy gives, slightly reminiscent of Werner H.
It's so strange to watch this. They have no idea all that was about to happen....

Adore John Waters, but is there a "bad" John Cassavettes movie?

John sounds annoyed by the interview!
Veda Dara : so am I.
Thee suleasiest show on earth 😂😂
These people aren’t fans of John Waters, they want to be fans .
National treasure
This movie laid the foundation for Pink Flamingos
Genius next Russ Meyers and Hershel Gordon Lewis
Who's the interviewer here? He looks super familiar but I can't place it.
"And I doubt it was true."
Can you imagine a John Waters puppet show when he was twelve ? Gory car crashes and the cavalcade of perversion.
What a dull audience.
(20:46) In 2024, $12,000 = $89,000
That's what's wrong with America it's become to politically correct. I love these old films. They are amazing wish I was alive then
The interviewer is a dud.
Didn’t recognize the Trump evil.
wow...bad interview

Jesus christ! That self-important interviewer is appalling. God, I hate this smug, conceited, opinionated generation.
Hear hear!
Hmm.John Waters, out of the loop. BLM.
