There is a perennial debate on which is better for control; dancers or load cells. While dancers are required for certain applications with violent tension upsets, such as turret wind/unwind transfers, load cells tend to be more precise. However, this debate is often silly because you can have both for very little extra cost while preserving the greatest utility for the process engineer and greatest flexibility for the drive engineer.
