  • Muzsikas collect old tunes from an old Gypsy village musician Gheorghe Covaci, "Cioata". He was a great musician played together with Jewish musicians before the War. He remembered numerous Jewish tunes, many of them considered to be unknown earler.

Thank you all for saving our musical tradition! Hungarian, Romanian, Jewish or Gipsy? All of them. We have a highly interwoven common Central/Eastern European history.

You are speaking about two different things. In this video you can see 6 musicians, three Hungarians (left side), they are the memebers of Muzsikas from Budapest and three Romanians, the are the Fraci Florea and Gheorge Covaci. The music they play together is a Jewish tune from the area Maremures, Romania.

This looks like a course or a teaching by heart given by Master Cioata to the prime violin of the Magyar Muzsikas group. And I am impressed by the respectfully attention payed by the Muzsikanter to Master Cioata. And also by the humorous kindness of Master Cioata to everybody and to his guest.
It is a great luck that this Jewish treasure pass through the awefull events and centuries to us....playing by “Goy or Jewish “ it is not a problem: the music has to survive !!

...a place packed with true masterpieces of wooden construction craftsmen - churches, monasteries, sculptures in wood - wood doors, wicker and straw plaiting, weaving, painting icons on glass, furriers and knitting, natural dyeing of wool, ceramic craft) and part of the historical Maramures
Master Cioată not played before the war, but after, he died about 10 years and was the largest non-violinist who always played without a score.

For the information of those who post messages and comments without informed consent, Gheorghe Covaci Cioată is not a village but a village with Romanian gypsies with strong roots in the preservation of culture and tradţiei respectively Vadu Iza, Maramures County, Romania.

+Olaf De music is meant for the ears :-D
I think your comment shows you have little affinity with the enjoyment you can get out of playing music.
when I look I see an older man having the time of his life playing the music he obviously loves playng.

+TICETOCAR Hey I never said anything is wrong with an unorthodox playing technique, I was just a bit surprised by the way he holds the bow, nothing beyond that. I have no idea how you decided that I think he does something wrong, as far as it sounds good I don't care how somebody plays. And by the way I think he's a true professional and eastern european music rocks.

actually ,in the video they all speak hungarian.have you noticed that? why?
Bela Bartok collected traditional hungarian and traditional romanian music from Transilvania, to say the truth.

That,s true! But bjocc1 write about "they are playing Hungarian music from Gyimes...", that,s not right, so he must be little bit oriented about what he write here about that!
