After hours of hardwork, sweat, and literal blood because of lot of cuts on my fingers, I finally made my first carving.. It's a turtle, my favorite animal.. It's actually ugly af but I'm proud of it! Still hoping to improve..
Oo a turtle! Might make one, i actually found a block of wood which is awesome! I miss wood cutting
This comment made me laugh
Stephen King wood be proud 👏
FUCK YEA!. Imma aim for an owl.
Mood, I've only made HP style wands so far, working on a flower now
This looks smooth as butter, meanwhile im here sliding all over the wood cuz its way harder than i expected 😂🤦♀️
They prob have softer wood or something
You need to try basswood. We use it in the video
The things that restrict us in the expression of our craft, teach us how to work with the world around us. Get an off cut, introduce yourself to your material, find it’s and your strengths and weaknesses. Crafts a journey. Or do as beaver said, the artisan chooses.

So, I've been wanting to carve wooden figures for months nearly a year already, but I wasn't sure how to start. Watching this video, at 2 in the morning. Gave me the biggest inspiration, I am ready to put weeks, months, and even years of hard work into this skill.
How is your carving going for you.
@@efrainsaune139 lol I hope he's gotten started
Don’t be shy drop a link with some pics 👀
You purple turtle where the carvings at bro!!!

“Make sure you wrap your fingers with safety tape” watching this with a chunk missing from my thumb, definitely do that 😅
Same here 😂
Just got a woodcarving kit for Christmas, super excited to try it out! Thanks for the tips!
That is cool, just don’t get cut I had 10 stitches in my thumb and it sucks
Ayyyy me 2
@@groverbundy899 surprisingly I only managed to cut myself twice so far (both shallow) and I’m still enjoying carving a lot, hope you healed up though!
@@groverbundy899 Please be careful and wear cutting gloves or at least a safety tape
@@hawkfeather537 how did it go
Watching this made me remember I have been working with cherry wood which is exponentially harder than basswood, the entire time I am carving I think "it does not look like this much strength is needed".
I just got my spoon carving kit yesterday . I've always been interested n carving. I'm going too try basswood, I want too learn how too make the basic cuts, before I get started on a project.
Thanks for these tip videos.
Wow. I'm a big fan of you. I'm also make car like you :D
how did it go
My kit is shipping. I'm so excited, I can't help it! I'm also needs to learn more about tipes of woods...
By the way... How is your wood carving work (after two years)?
After 2 years mu carving skills haven't improved much. After a bad cut on my finger. I stopped for a while.
A month or so, I started carving/ attempting to carve again. Right now I'm just learning how to make basic cuts.
I felt inspired after having done a decent pumpkin carve this halloween after accidentally doing this that you're doing 05:26 but as i know from many works. Pumpkins rot and get soggy over time. Now i feel like trying out these more delicate moves on wood. Thanks for the extra tips in the video!
Glad that you like the video. It's great idea to try woodcarving as wood doesn't get soggy over time
I've come a long way in wood carving, starting from a young age. This video brought me joy in knowing I figured out most of this stuff on my own or from my grandfather, who was a carpenter.
Wow! Glad that you got great memories watching our video
I'm thinking of getting into carving so, I don't know how goo they are for carving. But I've always loved red wood trees. They're just so beautiful and have a wonderful beautiful red to them.
They are a hard wood tree, so it would require a very sharp and sturdy knife to carve something from that. I know its a old post and you probably figured it out, but ah well.
My grandfather carved wood, he did it so beautifully, sadly he has alzheimers now and cant get out of bed. Wood carving has been an interest of mine for a while, I remember carefully wiping his sculptures from any dust when I was little. This is such a beautiful hobby, it connects you to nature, and how we, as people used to be. Thank you
It's great that your grandfather carved so many projects. Would be great if you return to wood carving and enjoy this relaxing hobby
I have a huge basswood tree in my backyard so I guess I'm kinda lucky!
“Help cut more wood with thumb. This is all for today.”
I chuckled a couple of times. It was just good to see someone working the wood.
i just carved my first walking stick it came out fair and im proud of it but there is room for improvement of course. i didnt watch any carving vide0s till now and i learned that i used all unsafe and thumbs down moves to make my stick lucky i got my fingers still thanks for the video now im into two kinds of beaver crafts
Walking stick is a good project to carve. Wow! You didn't watch any videos. It's great. And the greatest news that you still got your fingers 😁
Your safety tape is the same as vet-wrap, for bandaging animals! That's such a clever use for it, I never would have thought of it. Haha
Great price, too!
I've always wanted to learn how to do wood cutting. I've always appreciated the art of it. How long the thing's that are created can stay around for years to come so cool. Does anyone know the basic tools one needs to start off. Thanks so much.😍
Great that you want to try wood carving. It's really easy to start with spoon carving and you can find a starter spoon carving kit here: bit.ly/34G5Rk0
Well you need energy and passion. Plus a customer!
@@BeaverCraftTools it seems like quite a healthy hobby. What can go wrong?
The kit he’s linking to is $55.95. There are cheaper and just as good kits.
I mean you can first start with only a regular pocket knife like an Opinel for 9$ then if you are really into it but some more tools. Also you can go for second hand tools as old tools are often been taken care of and not used for long years. Just need a sharpening and it is as good as a new one
Recently started watching your videos but I have always had a passion for wood carving I believe with the proper tools and your videos I will be able to make some nicer woodwork ..thank you BeaverCraft...

Hello. I’ve been looking into wood carving as a means to learn a new hobby and maybe make some profit from the craft. What types of wood would you suggest beginners use and is it possible to carve hardwoods like this? Thanks and I loved the video.
I'm currently carving with Huon Pine from a shed we have full of it.

I don't know yet. Just started carving. What would you recommend?
I learned so much already! Where can I find the safety tape? I never heard about that before. That would have been great to have for the time I accidentally cut the tip off my finger. XD Whoops!

My favorite wood is olive wood , I subscribed an I interested in this spoon kit. Is there a promo code? Thanks
Is basswood a good starting wood? I’m new to the hobby. Thanks in advance
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your comment.
Basswood is the softest wood for carving, therefore it is very smart to begin your carving journey from this kind of material.
Wish you enjoyable carving with BeaverCraft!
Currently I have loads of Himalayan cedar wood.
What if I wanted to make a katana handle and what kind of coating should I use to prevent splinters?
Try to follow these steps:
1) Sand the wood with a palm sander and 80-grit sandpaper to smooth out the wood overall.
2) Change the sandpaper to a finer grit, such as 120, to further smooth the wood.
3) Use a putty knife to fill any nail holes or cracks you don't want to show with wood filler.
4) Select a finish that you prefer for your katana handle.
Is it better to use soft wood or hardwood for carving? Looking to get into some chainsaw carvings.
Softwood is easier to cut
We use only hand tools and for carving basswood is one of the best wood.
Ok what brand name tools do you recommend. I'm new to this

Hi BeaverCraft what is the best wood to practice on?
Hi Andrey, the best wood to practice is basswood as it's soft enough to work on
What kind of wood do u use? I am a beginner and thanks for the video😁
Thanks, Erik. We use basswood
Is there any specific type of wood you use or prefer? Or any sort of wood is good to go with??
We recommend using basswood as it's softwood and it fits great to every beginner
Hi where can you buy these wood tools in the uk .Regards Tim
I got mine from etsy but they took a while to arrive
I wish i saw this video for the finger wrap idea years ago. My first time cutting with actual tools, i coughed and ended up cutting my pointer finger down to the bone and was sitting at the ER with the tool stuck in the bone.
We hope that everything is healing well for you! It's very important to take care of yourself, as working with sharp objects can be dangerous.
If anyone can help, please can you recommend some easy-to-cut woods; all the stuff I’ve used had been really tough to cut throuh

I've been carving on branches and driftwood I picked up from the beach, the driftwood is easier to work with, fresh branches are a little tougher. I will get basswood when I can do something decent on the scrapwood, I don't want to waste money.
I learned to carve on the only wood i had at the time and it was Cherry. I prefer Basswood but still enjoy carving Cherry.
I was inspired by all the stuff you can make and its easy like drawing

How do you make the knife so sarp

Which is the best wood
God I wish they didn’t use robot voiceovers for these things.
“HELLO. FELLOW. HUMAN.”
I use scissors to sculpt sometimes bc it kinda blends I don't have a blending tool☹️
Interesting, so you don’t find the safety tape unduly effects the length, depth or precision of your cuts due to sensory deprivation?
The safety tape is great for wood carving because of the durable material. Nevertheless, you need to be careful as the cut-resistant tape doesn't prevent direct blade cuts but the self-adherent tape is great for avoiding small cuts and abrasions.
@@BeaverCraftTools Cool, Always love seeing how people solve problems. Never to proud to learn something. I'll be giving that a try. One slice in the wrong place can really shorten a craft day!

How easy is it to carve cedar?
Hi Deborah,
Thank you for your comment.
Cedar wood is so easy to carve since it is soft and brittle.
Cedar wood is excellent for beginners for practicing to learn how to get finer details in their wood carving projects because it cuts like a piece of cheese.
@BeaverCraft Thank you. I'm retired and found working with wood is fun.
