    You are 100% correct about welding on rusty steel out in the field but you might aswell clean it up because absolutely no one would also run 6013 (useless rod) in the field so might aswell just clean the steel

    What you said about thinner flux core wire, equally applies to stick. The thinner 1/16" 6013 rods are ideally suited for use with low amperage 110v welders. The "downside" being that 1/16" rods burn quicker.

    Loved the presentation; down to earth; and just like we might need to do it in real life. Did not know welding through rust is possible. Of course I don't own a welding machine; but, thinking of buying one. Thanks for a great presentation.

    Doesn’t matter what process you’re welding with. If it’s worth welding it’s worth cleaning.

    Im no welder but i did buy a tooliom 200amp 3 in 1. I run forney .30 flux wire and it does very well. Its about 300 bucks but i feel like it works well. For about 80 bucks more you can get a 250 amp model with an insert. Linner for aluminum welding.

    6013 doesn't like dirty metal and most of the cheap welders amperages are way off but at least it worked somewhat

    Not sure about the amount of cement work saved... though have you seen "pin footing" like the designs used by Diamond Piers and HANDI Piers (Menards)? The specs also show the non-block designs where literally you just for a table just weld the tubes to guide the pin pipes into the ground and no cement required. That's if you have the pipe/tube. From what I recall, read the literature to verify, reads like they only use Schedule 10 1" dia. 50-63" length galvanized depending on soil and load conditions. Figured I'd note if you've never heard of. Might save time and back in certain situations.

      I almost wonder if for a table rebar would be sufficient if wasn't for the flexible nature. Also wondering if the table legs each had a pipe going out to form the radius at the depth is all required. Seems with a perimeter frame welded around the base at least. Not to throw you off... though came to mind and figured I'd share. Thanks for sharing! I grabbed two of those steel pallets for material stock and one for a drag leveler someday.

      The true problem in Maine is the 24 inch deep frost line AKA our footers all must be 3ft under ground along with all water lines at 4ft if possible. I built this knowing it will move and heave around. But can be jacked up and dug out and sunk back in if needed. So combining that with your question. If I dug a 3ft deep hole at each corner then a rebar or 2 to the bottom in each corner then concreated the bottom foot or so and back filled the rest. It might stay.

      @@redneckcomputergeek Makes sense, a.k.a. the frost line. What amazed me was that only those four like low grade fence pipe at the depth and angle spec'd by the manuf. were able to be equivalent to a footing below the frost line depth due to the pipes going down below the frost line so far and out at such a large radius when you like make a circle at the bottom tips of the pipe. I didn't do the math... though guessing the loadings on the total pipe surface area gets close to what a footing does or something at least in regards to that pipe surface area forces to prevent sinking, heaving, etc. Seems like a "handy" time and materials saver, especially if can find free top rail or cage fence or other equivalent or better spec pipe. Sledge hammers work too to drive and I've seen some video where like a hammer drill with hammer only works as well. Most use a jack hammer which isn't a tool easy to find cost effectively to repair or buy new. Thinking like you're thinking with the rebar down to footers... that's be great and if you're digging out and wanted to be picky, you can weld up rebar trusses (guessing bend the angle truss support piece as one whole section to save on time and only weld the truss connections) to really be rigid I"m guessing.

    is it worth it to buy more expensive welding helmets mine is barley working now but ive have it for like 8 years

    • @redneckcomputergeek
      @redneckcomputergeek  2 роки тому

      I find the price point to be around $80. After that you are paying for features you do not need or would know if you did. I posted a link to both in the description of this video. The extra $40 in price from one to the other is 2nd layer face mask shield and the comfort. That said the HITBOX helmet will never get used outside cause the soft comfort inside would never last.
