Oswestry grew from a small medieval market town with the arrival of the railway in the late 1800s. Although no railway station remains today much of the iron legacy lingers.
Oswestry boasts fine examples of timber framed buildings and a medieval feel to the layout of the town centre.
Today’s presentation is Third Rate contents first visit to this gem.
Many a good night spent in the powerhouse at the old Vic...superb 🕊🎶❤️.....love it Dan
I don't know how many pubs there are in Oswestry these days, but 30 years ago I worked out with my own eyeballs that if you stood in the doorway of a pub, you could see at least one other pub. For some reason I don't remember very much about that particular night 😉
There are still a lot. And they looked pretty cheaply priced . Tho I didn’t go in any on this visit. 👍
Wonderful historical market town and square, visited many years ago. Thanks TRC!
It’s a pleasure. Thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks. That’s going to be a local place for me to shop.
No
I didn't realize it is actually quite an attractive town. I always thought of it as a dreary little place bypassed by the A5. Thank you.
Yes I quite agree. It definitely seemed to pop out on this visit I’m glad we captured it. Thank you for the comment 👍
My Boy Lewis always laughs when you say 'see you out here' I tell um that's a Shreeeewsbury accent mate init
@@tigershrew1 love it mate 🤣👍 I’ll give him a shout out in a vid if you want?
you’ve only seen the good side
Hope you had a few pints with the old man there Dan
Not that day mate but hes chomping at the bit to go again (he saw its £2.40 a pint) 🤣👍
Lovely part of the world 👍
Very much so. Thanks for the comment 👍
not entirely
Okay very noble house and the house is so good 😊 it’s not a big thing for us but it’s just like a real estate house 🏠 lol I just bought it and it’s like it doesn’t have a big o lot like it but I can’t just stop by the store I can’t just go back in my room lol I’ll let you know what I need for my do and I’ll thanks
And thank you for the comment. Very much appreciated 👍
do you know the origins of the name oswestry?
Oswalds tree?
@@thirdratecontent585yea king Oswald died by a tree and apparently his blood made the tree grow
@@Endtherinbetween yes it’s quite the story. Who knows what was going on in those dark ages? I’ve seen Excalibur (1981) it was probably something like that lol
you’ve not seen the sketchy streets where i spent most of my early childhood and the primary school that they crammed hundreds of children into and the teachers don’t give a shit about you you’ve seen the side of oswestry with all the shops and nicely painted for tourists like the park behind the old train station my 4 year old sister found a pile of who knows what at a park
Thanks for telling us, that park sounds horrible, thanks for taking the time to comment.
I grew up there and I’m still there .
Growing up there was great with lots to do , friendly people lots of shops and a great night life
Look at it now it’s a dangerous shit hole that has died
I didn’t see the dangerous side from the short visit we made tho sadly most places have a seedy side which I think the times we are living in are making more apparent. Thank you for taking the time to comment
yep i agree i am also someone who was raised in oswestry until the age of like 8 then we moved to gobowen
@@thirdratecontent585 it’s mostly the places where we live and you visited the shopping areas and stuff if you had been in that park by the old train station you would’ve been mortified
I have been to the park behind the station loads of times with my kids and I haven’t seen anything underhand or seedy! I have lived in Oswestry for 16 years and i love it!!
Help! Poor old Oswestry! It deserves better than this. A badly filmed, third-rate amateur view of the town. Could a professional give us a proper introduction to this fine old town? I was born and bred there so think I have the right to comment!
All opinions are valid on Third Rate content David so it’s great to hear from a real authentic Oswestry man 👨. Thanks for taking the time to comment and why don’t you ask the BBC or something lol
It’s just that Oswestry deserves better than this! “Lewd” Mansion, for example. Help! Learn a bit of Welsh pronunciation before talking about this town, which has a god number of Welsh-speakers.
@@davidbaird3401 Thanks for the additional information David. Best advice I can give is do a Welsh language film yourself or like I previously said ask the BBC or BBC Wales tho good luck with that 👍
Thanks for taking the time to comment 😉
David, if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all!! Take no notice of this man @third rate content xx
