What an amazing and talented guy. Like his low key presentations. Not hyper like some others. Would be wonderful if he could get a guest appearance on one of the PBS wood working shows. His future looks bright ahead. Oops….almost forgot….love his humor!
Thank you so much for your very kind comment! I really appreciate that. You made me smile, actually. If you know any PBS show hosts, you send ‘em my way! 😄
Thanks for doing this video. I recently got into dough making and i see a lot of the old timers using a wood box to make rhe dough in. It looks similiar to this. I have a mitre saw so think i can make one :)
Compound miters kind of mess with our minds, don’t they?! All of the face cuts are at 60° while all of the miter joints are cut at 55° I hope that makes sense 👍
@@hearthsidewoodworksCool looking hold-anything bowl. The walnut you found was lovely. I see you wrote 55° for the miter - by “face” do you mean the angles that meet the tray bottom; those were 60°? And was the bottom then also 60°? TIA. I hope to see more of your videos. I like your laid back style. And yes, we do have nights where our brains just won’t stop thinking long enough to fall asleep. Did you end up fixing the original bowl - just curious.
Hi, I am wanting to make something similar to this, just using the sides & top to hold a row of LED lights. My problem is I can't find a table saw with a 55 degree bevel, only up to 45 degrees. I don't actually care whether it is 45 or 55, but can it be done with a 45 degree bevel, in that case what would the angle of the mitre be ? Thanks a lot.
I’d like to say I’d use it for something that looks nice, like fruit or decoration, but it’s going to end up full of random crap (and dog hair). I love it and I like your laid back style. Keep the videos coming.
Great video, but I hesitated with the thumbs up. Why? Because you showed all the processes on camera, but did not tell us how to do them - techniques, things to watch out for, handy hints and so on. I watched your video to find out how to cut the mitre angles, but you don’t explain it. Oh, I want to make a larger version for mixing dough. Will there be problems with the base expanding and contracting when you have glued it in?
If you pause the video at 4:32, you’ll notice that my sled has all of the dimensions written on it. But, since you asked so politely…..my table saw blade is set to 55° and the face cuts are at 60°. These numbers can change depending on how you want your tray/bowl/thing to look.

What the hell are the angles you are cutting?!? I’d like to build it too.
Apparently they are his secret.
They are noted on the sled I’m using. Roll back to that scene and you’ll see them 👍
What are the angles ? Thanks
You can't have enough of these in the house, every room should have at least one, very useful... good project thank you
I now have 4! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more. 👍
Enjoyed the content of your first 2 Videos.
Thank you! I appreciate that. Many more to come 👍🏻
Are the angles noted on your sled the correct angles for this box?
Yes they are! Follow them and you’ll get the same results I did 👍
@@hearthsidewoodworksthank you so much. Loved the posting👍
Great job IJ - quick great video!
Thanks buddy!
Love your style! Looking forward to more.
Thank you so much! More videos are on the way 👍🏻
I'm just here for the Cheez-It®. Nice masonry work, buddy!
😂
what are the overall dimensions?
I love everything about this! 😍
Thank you! That means a lot
We love your videos. Keep making them 👍
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that
You need to include measurements and angles. Thanks
Nicely done! What angles did you use?
Thank you! I cut the bevel at 55° and the miter at 60°.

Looks great! In our house, it would make a great video game control holder or mail sorter
I’ve already received a few requests. I might be making these to sell, so keep an eye out 😉
Did you cut the boards all at 60 degrees or was 2 of them cut at 50 degrees

Thanks for the tutorial! I was looking for a video to teach me how to make these tapered bowl type shapes so that I could make a concrete form.
Nachos and guac (in an extra small glass bowl). Fruit. Keys. I want one. Or three. You should sell them.
Great video, IJ! Really love watching you!
Thank you! I’ve already had a handful of people ask me about making them one. I might have a make a few 😏
@@hearthsidewoodworks There you go 😁 Let me know how much you want. Next time I'm over I may pick one up. Plus, reunion?
@@MnCoffeebean Absolutely!!
@@hearthsidewoodworks Awesome! I'll keep you posted!
Have you made one with compound angle dovetail joints? Would like to see your demo of it.
Great video! We have one of these and it is our key, mask, and stuff catch-all. As for your original “bowl,” a couple screws and fix that right up!!!
I was thinking the same! It might be a little rough around the edges but it’s still got a lot of life left in it. Ha! Kinda like me!
Great job. Looks beautiful. How did you come up with 55 and 60? If you change one angle how does the other one change? Are you using a formula. Thanks
Great little project and you make it look easy. You need your own TV show.

fruit bowls misused as catchalls sounds familar... 😂 great video and project, really enjoyed it. 👌 cheers from switzerland

Thank you! I appreciate that.
I like to put all my skincare stuff on a tray like that. Makes it seem neater but is still out and available for me to use quickly
Yeah, I’m definitely going to be making some different size variations of this in the future. They’re pretty handy!
Thanks for your comment.
Bom dia vi seu projeto e gostaria de saber os graus que você usa
My whole house is a wooden bowl containing dog hair.

Consider making a dough bowl. Even without a lathe it can be done, though more labor intensive.
💪🙏
My apologies sir
No worries, buddy! It’s all good 👍
I hope the information is helpful. Have a great day and stay tuned!
How to make?? Or watch me make?? You can't even show the angle?
