    I traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to meet up with my good fishing buddy Eric Haataja to search urban rivers for giant brown trout. There are rumored to be monster 25+lb brown trout in the river that we were fishing. We began our search climbing up and down the hillside of the river. Eric and I were both using spinnerbaits and spawn sacks on floats to catch fish. On the first day of fishing, we managed to catch a mixture of brown trout, coho salmon and steelhead (rainbow trout). We saw some monster brown trout jumping out of the water, but they didn't bite. The second day of fishing was much colder. Early in the day at the first fishing location, I caught a solid brown trout. As the day progressed, the fishing grew tougher. After several hours, Eric hooked a big steelhead. Shortly after releasing the big steelhead, Eric hooked another big fish! It was a brown trout, the biggest brown trout of the trip! We ended the day with this fish. I didn't find the giant brown trout that I was looking for on this trip, but I will be back in Milwaukee soon to try again.

    There is something to be said about fishing, it's diverse. Different places have different practices and different traditions. But one thing that really chaffes my choad is when people don't show respect for the fish/resource. Throwing a fish like that back into the water instead of properly releasing it is a huge no no here in Virginia. That might be how salt water anglers do it or bass anglers but hard core trout fishermen would never do that to a fish of that caliber. Consider that next time you fish in a different state for a different species, it'll go a long way towards making your viewers happy.

      Also I was taught to always wet my hands before handling a trout. Trout are a sensitive fish.

    • @OG-Paul-Valentine
      @OG-Paul-Valentine 5 років тому +2

      @@michaell1487 a very sensitive fish. Brown trout are a bit tougher but nothing like bass or warm water species. Regardless of the species though, as anglers we should always promote good fish handling practices and proper release techniques. That is one thing sorely lacking in today's UA-cam stars.

    • @MrSwaggboii21

      Can you explain what were the proper things they should've done

    • @OG-Paul-Valentine
      @OG-Paul-Valentine 5 років тому +4

      @@MrSwaggboii21 Sure, I'd be happy to. I didn't watch the entire video, so this only covers the 11 or 12 minutes that I did watch.
      1: All of the fish that were released back into the water should have been placed in the water with the fishes head facing upstream, preferably in a fast moving flow, they should have been held there to recover from the fight until they showed signs of being able to swim freely on there own and then released.
      2: Hands should have been dipped into the water before handling any fish. Wet hands do less damage to the fishes protective slime coating which is the only defense that fish has against microbes and disease in the water.
      3: These are spawning fish so an effort should have been made to keep them in the water and handle them as little as possible, any time you remove a fish from the water the amount of stress that fish experiences and it's chances for survival decrease. Cue the multiple "hero" shots that were taken in this video. Rule of thumb for removing any fish from water is simple: How long can you hold your breathe? Reduce by half and proceed accordingly for the fish you just caught.
      4: It is preferable for catch and release fishing to use Barbless hooks, less damage is done to the fish during hook removal. Also during the healing process a barbless hook hole heals much faster than a standard barbed hook hole. This is because of the amount of tearing and tissue damage done by the barb of the hook being pulled out. People may say that you lose more fish using barbless hooks but if proper fish fighting techniques are used that is not true.
      Hope this helps, if you have any more questions I'll happily answer them or try to find you a source of information that can help.

      Harbinger Fishing I completely agree with everything you said. It just makes me really sad to see the way fish were handled in this video. Josh killed one fish just because a hook got a little far down there and instead of making an effort to save the fish he just decided to kill it. I feel like if he had been fly fishing the fish wouldn’t have had to die.
