- Jethro Tull - Nothing Is Easy (Nothing Is Easy - Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970)
Available Now: mercury-studios.lnk.to/Jethro...
Jethro Tull was formed in the late 60's and released their debut album This Was in 1968. Led by charismatic frontman Ian Anderson, they have been touring and recording almost constantly ever since, have registered no.1 albums on both sides of the Atlantic, achieved a succession of gold and platinum discs and won a Grammy award. They remain a massive live draw wherever they play around the world.
In 1970 Jethro Tull played the Isle Of Wight Festival in front of 600,000 people. Earlier that year they had released their third album, Benefit, which had seen the introduction of a full time keyboard player to the band's line up. The set was drawn from across the three albums with popular tracks such as My Sunday Feeling, Dharma For One, Bourée and Nothing Is Easy and also featured My God, a track that would appear on the following year's classic album Aqualung, probably their most famous release.
Nothing Is Easy is a true concert film, combining the classic performances from the festival with a new interview with Ian Anderson, specially shot for the film, and with backstage footage and original interviews from 1970 with Isle of Wight residents and fans attending the festival.

Hard to believe there was once a world on earth where this kind of talent and showmanship existed.. maybe now we’ll have to travel to another galaxy to find it.
Our parents would have thought that about Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis
Fully agree, we are now living in a society on the edge of culture junkyard.....for those who like rubbish, we have a plate full of these days...
Said every old person ever.............................................
It’s our there...just not in social media... people know where Real music is.. I don’t want it to be the norm we’re all in our little world now let’s keep it that way
This is true. They aren't a dime a dozen to be sure, but good tunes ARE still out there on independent labels.
THIS performance, in THIS video, by THIS band, proves that the R&R HOF is an illegitimate arbiter of talent.
10,000 thumbs up. The R&R HoF is a longstanding joke.
Holy shit. I'm sold. I never knew JT was such a badass band......
Been listening to too much cardi b
@@chateaupig826 There first 3 LOs were superb
I agree. How the heck is J.T. not in the RR hall of fame?
@@whitetigress7448 Damn good question!
The rrhof is irrelevant
I’ve seen Jethro Tull 4 times in the 70’s. No other front man can come close to Ian Anderson’s showmanship and energy. They were great every time I saw them. Martin Barre is a very passionate guitarist and had great chemistry with Ian Anderson.
Agreed...probably the best show I ever saw in the 70s
People always say that Joe Cocker was quirky on stage never saw Ian go at it. Love this vid!
Cornic is just owning that bass guitar....truly an epic loss to rock and roll. RIP Mr. Glen Cornic.
Actually I think he borrowed it
I read some years back that Glen went and turned himself into a woman...had the operation and everything. He turned himself into "Glenda"...see what rock N roll can do to you, it can make you go all 50 shades of fu_ked up. 🤣
Bullshit story idiot He died with his wife in Hawaii
Yes Sir. He had chops to burn but could tell a story with two or three notes. Btw, JT played My God at Wight with Glen on bass. I'm not convinced he didn't record it on Agualung before he was fired.
I believe it was David Palmer who transitioned to Dee Palmer, not Glenn Cornick.
I play guitar and flute but I find myself listening to Clive Bunker on drums. He is incredible.
Clive was my idol as a baby drummer. Amazing he just decided to quit playing when at the top. He played with heart as well as mad skill, while his replacement, Barrie Barlow, was a fine formal drummer, like Bill Bruford. Give me Clive any day. Him and the late Jon Hiseman.
He sounds just like on the album. Gotta hand it to him for not getting lazy on that one.
One of the best drummers of all time. Made it look easy...
The most underrated drummer of the 70's.
I play B3 and as usual the keyboard is under-mic’d. To me, Glen Cornick’s performance stands out.
The band going off the rails here.....but managing to keep the chaos from imploding. An all out blistering "Nothing Is Easy"....one of the finest renditions of this song anywhere.
Yes, absolutely; this song is always on the verge of chaos, but they keep it together.
well said!
is Ian's timing going off the rails.. band keeping it together, adjusting to him
I disagree--it loses its swing with the frenzied pace.
Indeed. Well put.
RIP to Glenn Cormick bass guitarist.. I was there at this concert.. So so cool..
Love this lineup. Cornick was a badass.
You are a lucky guy. But, alas, we are growing old....
If you were actually there you would share more than a couple of words. Peace
@@travisrlel2 this is their best lineup imo
You are so lucky
An artist,a genius,a great personality man. Ian Anderson.
Heikki rossi komppas...siis i agread
Amen.
❤😂🎉😅😊❤
Clive Bunker is one fantastic freakin' drummer!!!!
i totally agree
My favorite Tull drummer
He sure is...and I think quite often, one of the most overlooked.....this is my favorite Tull lineup (Barriemore Barlow's era would be a close second)
Should have got more. Credit as one of the Greats.
R John Mitchell absofuckinglutely ! Clive never got enough credit for how great he was
I’m pretty stupid but I do know that I will never visit the rock and roll hall of fame until Jrthro Tull is in there
They're not in it because it's beneath them. They're music professors, and that stuff is elementary.
Ian makes all other bands look they are still looking for something but he's already found it.
Truth.
Who else could make the flute so utterly gorgeous 😍
We were lucky to witness greatness
Running this through my Car stereo! WOW
This was my favorite iteration of JT. Evan, Bunker, Cornick, Barre and Ian.
One of the greatest showmen in R&R history
The greatest
there, my friends, is the consummate band leader!
You got that right!
Easily
As others have mentioned, THIS is probably the very best Tull team of them all, this quintet in particular. JT's golden era indeed. And this live performance ... underrated.
What do you mean underrated? How highly rated do you want it to be?
Just WOW! This makes me want to go back into my Jethro Tull catalog and begin listening again. I don't think I've ever seen a more energetic and musically impeccable performance from a rock band.
EVERYTHING HE DID WAS BEYOND AMAZING 😅😅
I DO go into my back catalogue every week and will do until the end.My number ONE rock band of ALL TIME.
This performance is incredible.
Oh Ian I love yu
Pp
Can You believe these guys are not in the R&R Hall of Fame
79tazman
Don't need to be
They are the hall of fame
I didnt know that. just goes to show the politics involved. Ian picked up a flute because he knew he couldn't outdo clapton and put everyone to crap
They are legends anyway
It is not R&R, it is heavy metal, according to Grammy Award comittee...
Could any band top JT when they were playing like this! Well, that's just one old (ex)doper's opinion. But this is just GREAT! What a shame they are not included.
Saw them in 1972 and had front row seats. Can you imagine? 😍 I saw them at least another 5x all in the 70s. What a great showman. 💖
Jethro Tull is the Power of Nature...
I was born 9 years after this happened... I would pay for a time travel to see Anderson in a concert in the early 70's.
Clive is a MONSTER on the skins!!!!
And this my friends is true Rock n Roll…….no rap….no hip hop….no Motown….no disco……pure rock.
I have been blessed to see Jethro Tull in concert twice I appreciate every song and everything that he is ever done Ian Anderson is the man
Yes, I seen him in Jacksonville FL in 1973 I believe it was. I was 14 , great concert. Things seem better when your young. Four years older I'd have been in Vietnam instead.
Clive Bunker daaaamn. Greatest Tull unit there ever was. When Gods walked the earth.
agreed, superhuman.
If anyone needs a reminder about the freedom of expression...the joy of creativity...or just needs to unload a head of steam...point them to this video...My God...Ian is a musical Shaman.
NOTHING IS EASY. One of the best Rock arrangements EVER. Clive Bunker on drums,, fantastic. Glen Cornick on bass,,, brilliant. It doesnt gets any better.
RIP Glenn, best bass player Tull ever had.
Too young to be gone.
Talk about raw fricken rock.....no lasers.....no light shows.....no distractions.....just pure musicianship.
As John Lydon freely admitted . . Jethro Tull were one of the founders of British punk rock.
The most amazing front man there ever was!
TULL just extraordinary in every department!!!!! UTTER GENIUS ,,,, so so KOOL !!!
A 23 year old Anderson. Bloody amazing!
RIP to the great Glenn Cornick! A vital part of the early days of Jethro Tull!
I didn't know he was dead! Thx for the great music M. Cornick
Ditto...Cornick the Finest !
I totally agree! Clive Bunker is actually my favorite rock & roll drummer.

Not a single weak link in this band. Well written innovative songs, excellent performances in every instrument and a front man par excellence who could double on flute or triple on guitar. These guys were too absorbed in the music they were creating to use drugs or alcohol and the quality of their performance shows it. One of the really great bands of the 1970s. I saw these guys perform on the Passion Play tour in San Diego. Ian Anderson was all over the stage. The keyboardist was spectacular. One of the best concerts I ever attended. These guys put on quite a show.
I remember thinking back then .. wow, how tight are these guys
Saw them in Ft Laud in 1972 when I was 18. Was amazed not only by the music but his ability to stand on 1 leg for so frickin' long.
The Magician of the world 👑
Stand Up is one of the greatest albums ever made. That Bunker\Cornick Rhythm section absolutely smoke!
Totally agree. No better rhythm section in rock. Ian queered that.
THE LEGENDARY TALENT OF IAN ANDERSON OF JETHRO TULL IS A GENIOUS OF MUSICLAND STILL TO THESE DAYS E EN IN 2023 UNBEATABLE IAN..
Clive is just HAMMERIN' that drumkit like it owes him money, yet he's a very dynamic when needed. Hats off to Mr. Bunker!
this is what UNITY looks like!!!!!!!!
Absolutely the best Tull lineup
The BEST Jethro Tull lineup in my opinion. I learned about Jethro Tull from a substitute teacher in the fall of 1969. He was a young, hip teacher who told our class “ you must listen to Jethro Tull “ !! He was right !!!!!
Omg!! So fucking awesome!!! And so true!!!!! My older brother turned me on to Tull when I was 13. Obsessed ever since
This version of Tull surely had to be the band at its highest pinnacle !!!###
There were probably front men in rock more animated than Ian Anderson..... I just can't think of any right now. Kept him trim and in shape all these years, that's for sure.
Holy Smokes! This is Tull at their peak, these 5 were the best Tull band ever, no argument for me. I love the moment when they are smoking hot and Ian almost falls into Bunker's drum set at 4:15 - he's lucky he had great feet! Wow!
By far their best line-up ever!
Saw them back in the day with this line-up, one of the best live bands ever.
haha! I just pointed out that same near-fall... He sure did have great feet!
@@Kmarty2000 I saw this lineup at the Fillmore East and Cactus was the opening band, I got to sit in front of Glen Cornnick and Tim Bogart's bass extravaganzas that night.
It's 90 degrees outside today as I watch this at home, and I'm getting chills from this performance...
That drop into Ian's vocals at 0:54 is one of the greatest moments of live vocals I've ever seen to this day. Love it.
Jethro Tull greatest. Progressive rock band (Ian Anderson) Flutist that rocks a Flute solo like a lead guitarist rocks a guitar solo!
This might be the best live performance I've seen of a band playing one of their songs live
The 70's were graced with great bands like Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, and others.
Awesome ending to a concert by a great band. Thank You Jethro Tull for all the music and good times!
Nothing is easy Jethro Tull at the isle of Wight 1970 was to become the of Ian Anderson spectacular WOW.......Legend......
"Are you ready, Clive?"
" Nice one, Clive."
That was insane!💯
This is an incredible performance. So tight as a group. Drummer is fantastic.
Saw them two years after this in 1972 at Bowling Green State University’s Anderson Arena. Thick As A Brick tour. I was blown away by Ian Anderson’s whole stage act and tried to imitate his leg lifting and other unique moves for my friends after the concert. They got a kick out of it. Of course, we were all high. A great time for music.
Was that before the massacre?
This reminds me of manic depression, , with a turbo charger added, and the maniac with the flute, best band in the world that night, in my humble opinion.
The older I get the more I understand this song. Totally true.
the time when rock/jazz/pop was musically interesting and JT was truly burning the place
I finally figured out why! You do not see Tull on list of greatest bands. Because they are in their own category of greatness. Who the hell plays music like this? NO ONE! And I seen 99.9% of all the great bands!
The quintessential Tull lineup, hardly to know how Anderson was able to replace such a good musicians as Clive Bunker, Glenn Cornick and later, John Evan
It’s a miracle that all of this was filmed. There is so much great footage of the Isle of Wight Festival 1970. Even more than Woodstock
I agree
Apparently, the proposed concert film of the Isle of Wight Festival was shelved,,,,,reappearing much later in 1997 as Message of Love.
Barry Smith Why were'nt they at Woodstock?
Jethro Tull were invited to Woodstock but Anderson declined because they would not pay in advance. He was a very ambitious guy about being successful in rock music and this was the biggest mistake he ever made. Santana played Woodstock for peanuts - $750 - and went from being unknowns to superstars thanks to the movie and album. What is most heart wrenching for JT fans is knowing Anderson and crew would have TORN UP the stage at Woodstock.
@@johntechwriter Fortunately, Tull became superstars on their own without appearing at Woodstock. Who knows--they might've taken Santana's place and then we might not know about Santana. So maybe it all worked out for the best.
In a recent Tull bio that discusses this, Ian voices a suspicion that if they'd played at Woodstock, they might've had that hanging around their necks for the rest of their career and they'd just be "a Woodstock band".
Glenn Cornick and Clive Bunker tear this tune a new one.unbelievable ENERGY..Ian can't hardly keep up with those Beast
Ian Anderson. Scotland's national treasure
Man, all these guys are masters in their own right. Martin Barre intense guitar, fantastic bass, awesome drums and the crazy showman Ian!! They were a real powerhouse at this point. In my opinion they could hold their own or blow nearly any band off the stage, Led Zep, Stones, Queen, nugent, Ten Years After, Aerosmith, Johnny Winter, Allman Bros. and others. They should be in R.R. hall of fame for sure. I understand some members are still touring with their own bands. Would love to see Martin or Ian. What a great band, they bring back good old memories.
😎 🎼🎸🥁🎶🎵🔊
Steven Brooks I agree, JT offered an entirely original and compelling version of rock, and this magical configuration of the band brought together individual geniuses to concentrate their talents in performance of the works of brilliant writer/leader/flautist Ian Anderson. And even better for us long-time fans, their instrumental performances and Ian's lyrics ring true across the generations. Some bands we boomers are a little embarrassed about, but not this one. Just show me anything from current times that remotely compares!
Their quirky rhythms, tempos on this and Teacher- no one at the time could touch that virtuosity.
And some people say that David Lee Roth was the greatest showman. Yeah, okay.
Ian Anderson absolute fucking beast that flute break down goes so fuckin hard banger forsure
JT the minstrel and his band of merry men...
Phenomenal ❤❤❤❤❤
Tull is the greatest…., uncle Ian is a genius musician ❤👍
Takes me back....but isn't that the best thing about music?
Yes nothing is easy, especially standing on one leg after you're 50. Ian will do it now for a brief second , but it won't last long. His genius continues.
The man can't even sing anymore. Out of locomotive breath
No need for any explosions, light shows, or special effects whatsoever ... A stage the size of a sandbox ... No girls dancing on the stage. Just the unique JT sound, a great showman up front, all performed with tremendous energy and conviction ... All you need to bring 600,000 people to their feet. What a show! Why do we settle for such lousy bands & music today?
kvernon1 true true and very true
So well put... shows like the Xfactor churning out mediocre pop star trash down our throats, girl singers who are glorified strippers...the days of talent like this is no more.
Because the doors are closed for bands like this, The record publishers will not let musicians have their publishing rights anymore. Rappers and Diva's could care less about publishing rights. They don't even know what they are. We are stuck with garbage forever.
Yeah!!!This what Jethro Tull is about!!!Ha ha the greatest prog band on Earth!
As much as I like prog rock, I won't entitle JT as a prog band... But regarding the whistles and sparkles thing on nowaday's music, I think that's due to the "minimalization" of music - as the years go by, compositions are getting simpler and dull, because new generations don't have the ears to fully listen to elaborate things. Barely the lyrics (so that's why many people now entitle "instrumentals" as "boring"). So the explosions, lights, special effects, dancing, twerking and all the whatsoever act as compensation for the lack of creativity, execution and put on stage - what music was supposed to be about.
the drummer is fantastic - great drummer. Clive Bunker is his name....
Ian, Glenn, Clive, John, Martin....my fave lineup of Tull
Ian Anderson and Martin Barre are the best line-up on music history.
I saw Tull in Madison square garden in 70s, a few times, and once there was a group of motorcycle guys who were throwing fireworks from their seats towards the stage. Anderson stopped the music and they all walked off. Ian came back in 10 minutes and admonished all 30 thousand of us, said he would play if they cut it out only, and then played for two hours totally, uninterrupted. Awesome.
An absolute a musical tour de force. Whew.
So much energy and candid intensity.
"Nice and slow." Says Ian. Hahaha Bar 9 .... Blamo!!! The Drummer will be driving from here on out! Hahaha!! Love it.❤️❤️❤️
This man's energy sends chills down my spine
The original and in my humble opinion the best line up plus John Evans
Hot shit. Wish I'd seen them when I had the chance.
I always believe English, Irish, Scottish & Welsh classic rockers are the best
Rinto Julian That’s because they have the most passion in what they do!
Nazareth
Rinto Julian just say british it will save you time lol
This Man is Viking ` Thats Get It Mate
I agree 100%
Ian Anderson knew how to pick his drummers..Clive Bunker and Barriemore Barlow..two of the very best
Mark Craney 80-82 live Slipstream concert
Too bad neither can stand him...
@@rickdossin6703 Tull had lost the plot by then
@@brentfarvors192 I know that Barrie has issues with Ian, mainly relating to John Glascock, but I don't think Clive does - his leaving JT was perfectly amicable; he left to get married and didn't reckon touring with JT was compatible with that.
@@adolforodolfo6929 I was more referring to the rest of the rock community...They hate him, because he's a narcissist...
BEYOND AWESOME 👌 ❤❤
Ian Anderson is an absolute bloody legend on stage.
Saw them 5x between 69-72. Then 6 more times after that, my favorite live act ever.
It's so cool to see Glen playing what looks like a Thunderbird bass
One of a kind sound , great musicians, cannot be classified, F***ing great!!!
Holy CRAP..... I love the Tull.... Arguably Britain's finest ever band.... And anyone who inspired the mighty Mikael Akerfeld is truly special
Sounds a lot better than the studio version!
Yes I saw him many times and met him he is a master
That was the Golden Age of Jethro Tull. And this was the true Jethro line-up to never be equaled after
Incredible, Mind blowing. Matchless. And the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations were revealed yesterday, with the usual ludicrous nominees. And Jethro Tull has never been nominated. It's the most absurd and outrageous omission in the whole horrible HOF credibility-less mess.
I was unaware that Tull were not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That is ludicrous.Mary J Blige and Kool & the Gang have been inducted this week!!! What a FARCE.
What A Band!! I Say This as a Scotsman. This Lineup Was Phenomenal! I had a Mother who wanted Me to play Flute back when I was in 4th Grade (Early 70s) BC She liked Herbie Mann. I was Very Reluctant....Didn't want to get Beat Up At School...Then She sat me down with a TV Video of Jethro Tull. I was Like. Yeah..This is Cool! Sign Me Up. I Later went to the Drums which became My Thing but I Got My Start Right Here.. With Ian! Love Tull!
So So Good....Saw Tull Ones Blew My Mind
Seen him on mescaline back in the70s at Boston Garden best live performance ever!
Hey, it is me again. This still is one hell of a song.
This was the last time ,concert, I saw Tull, after having had a piss with Glen Cornick and Ian Anderson and Mick Abrahams in the loo at The Wealdstone pub in Harrow Wealdstone in 68 . . . heavens what a time that was ;-) Nothing is Easy hey ;-)
