A straight talker definitely. This piece is hilarious and puts us back into our animal selves. In a different sketch on mainstream movies back then he is perplexed by the uber violence in films and not a jot of sex. I think it is recreated in the Lenny film by Dustin Hoffman.
Fortunately, Lenny's recordings preserve him for all times. So when he refers to some person or event of his day, it gives us incentive to investigate, to learn about those persons, events and times. In this sense, Lenny was educational, as well as satirical and entertaining. He should be the first Jew on Mt. Rushmore.
If there's one negative to Lenny, it's that his humor was often too topical; it referred too much to people and issues of his time. So when he speaks of Grandma Moses and Norman Rockwell, many people today under 40 years of age won't know who these people were. But once you get past this small problem, it becomes clear that Lenny was the funniest man who ever lived -- and timeless, because his target was hypocrisy. Alas, that hasn't left us.
National Geographic, the antecedent to Playboy Excellent line - another one to store away in the back of my mind in that place where I can never retrieve anything from in a timely fashion.
