III. Fermata. Contro l'angoscia che non soffi più il vento (Stop. Against the Anguish that the Wind Won't Blow Anymore) is the third movement of Mari immaginari (Imaginary Seas) op. 4, a suite for violin, viola, cello, and piano. Caterina Barontini composed this work during the first lockdown in 2020. Her musical language is a kind of fusion between the research of 20th-century French authors like Debussy and Ravel and today's cinematic composers. The third movement of this work (in 7/4 time signature) is about the moment in which the main character, sailing in the open sea, experiences anguish since they start to be afraid that the wind could stop blowing. This scene allows the Author to move forward into the symbolic concept of this suite. Every experience, after you have made a decision - like the choice of taking off, depicted in the second movement - will put you in front of anguish. The composer develops this emotion in a ternary form, in which the B part sounds a bit alienating, to suggest that fear cannot lead to good if you cannot tell anyone about it. The A part, instead, sublimates this feeling in a tender, melancholic way, developing a sort of prayer addressed to everybody and to nobody at the same time.
Caterina Barontini has recorded for Sifare Publishing also her previous works - Azzurro come il cielo (Azure as the Sky) op. 1, Fonti di poesia (Sources of Poetry) op. 2, From a Secret Diary op. 3 - and several repertoire albums. Recently, she has recorded four albums about the repertoire for piano four hands from Mozart to Satie, in duo with her father Ilio. In 2018 she recorded a 100-track piano library from the 18th Century to Contemporary Piano and the album The Heart Sonatas in the Italian 18th Century. Beforehand she had recorded her father's works for two pianos (Back to Beat part one and two, recorded live at Teatro Goldoni, Livorno) and for piano four hands (Bartókiana; Five Nursery Rhymes; Little Suite & Gershwiniana).
