Still playing Grandia in 2020. There was also a fantastic project called Grandia ReDux that changed some abilities, stats of enemies and much more. Very much worth giving a shot. I've played a vast variety of masterpieces, but Grandia is still my favourite game of all time.
@@mizukowa Unfortunately not, but she is much stronger and has valuable abilities. Also, there's now enough Mana Eggs in the game to build Sue's magic up as well and you can buy them in Luc Village. The only way to retain old party members in Grandia, as far as I know, is through some specific hacks where they replace one of the Disc 2 party members.
It's been over 11 years since I've uploaded this and have never commented, so here's a little backstory: I downloaded this on Limewire because I loved the tune, had it on my computer for years, then uploaded it on here. An amazing story and comment!
Hehe, just started playing grandia for the first time a few days ago. To be honest I knew about it since I was a little child but never played it until now. Haha Love this song!
I remember the first time I heard this song when I first played this game a while back. I was absolutely captivated! And those keys, oh my god, I am still in love with those keys
Final Fantasy 7 also had a mainstream push and wore the Final Fantasy name. It reached more people. Grandia's push couldn't compare, but Grandia is a special gem, something to be treasured and savored. A unique experience in its execution which truly fired on all cylinders. FF7 has its merit, but it's certainly not unbeatable.
Yeah I agree there are rpgs that come close or beat ff7 in ways but just the way the music and many things came together in ff7 is why it was so successful. The music in Grandia 1 is amazing tho.
This song almost gave me a heart attack when I played against the Rock Bird in the beginning of the game and heard this for the first time. It was so scary for the tiny me. Well, it still is very scary as a song of course. Great composing.
i didn't care for song at first, until i got Feena when fighting Octopus boss, this song clicked for me more, Feena was star in that fight thanks having fire magic, also you get this song when going in sewers to rescue Feena from forced wedding
Agreed!! I feel the game got easier as you got more options to exploit the battle system. Since this was an early boss, you had no choice but to struggle.
God i remember when i played this as a kid, i loved the town of parm and i just walked around it, then when it got to playing the game. I was so scared when i saw the orc king and this started playing.
Although the bosses were quite weak, one cant argue the battles were fun. And joining the clash: why would someone compare Grandia with FF? Nonsense. both are great in their own field
Why are you guys arguing about Grandia vs FF on a Grandia video? Isn't this what forums are for? As to Beastking, FF is not the tradition of rpgs, there are no "traditional" ways to make one. So that argument is flawed. A "traditional" rpg is set up like DnD, and even they got less traditional. But hey, they were the roots of what sets up a character (mostly speaking on the concept of stats and how they can shape performance based on choice over preset things.) Something BioWare knows about. Grandia and FF are Jrpgs, so there is no root tradition other than Linear story and events. That is the Jrpg tradition. Things like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Knight of The Old Republic, Mass Effect, these are more along the lines of traditional. You choose your paths. Different outcomes. With FF and Grandia or about any jrpg, there are no different outcomes that impact anything in any way. Else we are talking about rare cases in a jrpg. With that I say argument dismissed.
Although JRPGs created with the RPGMaker usually tend to have many endings depending on your choices. But I guess you were talking about big budget games and not indie games.
Cosmic Christopher That would explain a lot. The algorythms always suggest forums when it comes to videogame secrets, but most of them are all off topic and pretty much clickbait on secrets because of all the off the topic chatter.
This reminds me of Seymour battle theme from FFX. This game seems to have an amazing soundtrack for a PS1 game. Makes me want to play it. I’ve never seen it or heard it from my peers back then.
I think the funnest i had in this game was doing a run through, to include the Tower of Temptations, with no H&E cut for Justin and no End of The World for Feena. With those two moves together you can almost 1 cycle Leviathan at the top of the Tower of Temptations! In my opinion, those two moves break the game completely.
@zongzu See, I'm glad that instead of trying to compete this game and ff7 against eachother, you recognized their greatness and have them working together to destroy the competition! And if yo don't understand what the hell i'm talkin about, don't feel bad
damn, when i first played this on PS1 i thought the disc 1 would be somewhat like semi long part, but damn im almost level 50 and still couldnt even finish disc 1 and disc 2 is just waiting
@89FuManchu I know right? That's my favorite part of the music. I wish I could find the Boss theme version that plays during the Hidden Passage dungeon. (The one you go through at the beginning of the game to save Feena from her forced marriage. xD )
I've yet to see what epic-ness could possibly destroy the image of Gadwin's Dragon Cut, Justin with his Spirit Sword and Sephiroth all there standing alongside those two. Add the rest of the cast and we need to think of a another universe to place these guys ;P
Too bad that after the boss at Dom Ruins, you never hear this again until Disc 2's first boss and then only 3 more bosses in the entire game have it afterwards and one is optional. I like Four Volley Rounds of Tension but this deserved to be used more.
Grandia was the first RPG I ever played... even before the FF series... I loved it to death... then some asshat stepped on the cover with the CDs in them and they both broke :/ I'm so glad there are emulators x3
The game does have special dungeons, 3 if I remember correctly. The worst of them all is the Tower of Temptations where physical damage is basically useless and you had to rely only on elemental type attacks. Oh yeah, 3 bosses in a row.
V-Slash! Silceyaintwo!! Slicing Hard! Blow Storm Blow! Use your guts! GUTS!! Hundred Million Degrees. Take That! Gunna Thrash ya good! You'll never get away! HA!! Oh flame BURN 'EM! Blaze greatly ol' flame!! Go! Go! Magical Art! ..... Here you go! Oh thunder clap in the Darkness come here! I'll knock yall down at once! HA! Urrraahhh!
@FirestormChameleon BURN BABY BURN! CHILL OUT! FEEL THE EARTHS FURY! HA! FLY AWAY! No hits or damage im just saying Justin qoutes, Justin and Gadwin are my fave characters, both badass
Probably one of the best boss themes of any rpg. Leveling up tho is really crappy in this game takes way too much game time. I just beat it and didn’t even bother wasting time with the bonus dungeons cause everything was taking so long. Only game that took longer that I tolerated was xenogears.
it gives a context behind it cause they are kids, not teens, they are suppose to be goofy given the style of this music, which is honestly genius by iwadare.
I wouldn't say the music is goofy, though it has light-hearted bits. Overall it sounds very dire and desperate. Rather a struggling feeling, as if "it hurts, but we have to go on!" while the organ sections convey a feeling of fun and a sense of overcoming the enemy. Being that they're kids made each boss feel threatening, especially the larger they got. Having only used wooden swords and cookware for armor weeks prior to say, Squid King. The "maturing" aspect the game provides is palpable the deeper it gets. It's great.

:( thanks@@razorsharp5643
@@razorsharp5643 Is this mod still getting worked, and if you dont mind me asking, does it increase the game's difficulty?
Noriyuki Iwadare working his magic once again. A great song in a great game.
The organ/synth part on this theme makes it the best track in the game it. LOVE IT
That part is FIRE. I thought ff9 and some other rpgs had some really great music of course that boss theme is bomb too
This music brings back memories of me struggling while facing that goddamn Squid King...
Every time I replay this game I get to that God damn fucking squid..... Try once and go NOOOOOPE
@@KotRFFXIV What most people don't know about that fight is, that Feena is able to use strong fire magic. It really helps.
i'm playing the HD collection right now and that is still the only time i've game over'd XD
+1........first time meet that boss was so hard......
Throw that squid overboard!
It's been over 11 years since I've uploaded this and have never commented, so here's a little backstory:

Hehe, just started playing grandia for the first time a few days ago. To be honest I knew about it since I was a little child but never played it until now. Haha
Love this song!
Yeeee you're still alive
i love how Justin is so focused on the map when Feena is looking so cute listing intently to him lol
A very unique and bad ass music composition for a rpg battle theme.
I remember the first time I heard this song when I first played this game a while back. I was absolutely captivated! And those keys, oh my god, I am still in love with those keys
Molly Hailey the keys are the best :)
I'm always here for the organ solo

1:25 best part.
this part gets me so fing pumped up!!
Grandia + FF9 + Skies of arcadia = Best childhood
Clearly a man of culture and taste
Grandia 2 + FFVIII + Skies of arcadia = My childhood! so I can feel yours pretty close.
YOOOOO actually though
This song almost gave me a heart attack when I played against the Rock Bird in the beginning of the game and heard this for the first time. It was so scary for the tiny me.

SAAAAME i'm so glad somebody else remembers that! it scared the shit out of me when i was a little kid lol!
I was not scared of the bird but the Squid King. When I heard this song and saw the two limbs had separate hp stats, I was like oh f*-- I'm doomed lol
This music has an old school anime vibe to it and I love it
I don't know how they made sleigh bells fit in a freaking boss battle, but they did, and it sounds AWESOME!
this sounds so good!! i love the part at 1:23, it always gives me chills. I would love another grandia game
"Oh flame BURN EM!!!"
Somehow this music always reminds me of the squid king. Maybe because he was the only boss I struggled with.
It seemed appropriate for the third boss to be a challenge after the first two.
It's appropriate, really, given it's the first boss when Justin starts his first "real" adventure
Same lol
Agreed!! I feel the game got easier as you got more options to exploit the battle system. Since this was an early boss, you had no choice but to struggle.
Oh yeah the squid with its Alheal sure was a pain.
my childhood.

Feena best waifu
God i remember when i played this as a kid, i loved the town of parm and i just walked around it, then when it got to playing the game. I was so scared when i saw the orc king and this started playing.
The squidking was quite tough for an "early" boss lol even with good leveling i barely manage to survive the fight...damn howl move hurted like heck 😂
Although the bosses were quite weak, one cant argue the battles were fun. And joining the clash: why would someone compare Grandia with FF? Nonsense. both are great in their own field
I yet have to see a game beating Grandia and Final Fantasy 7. Back than, this masterpieces were created by gods.

The best boss music in the game!! I wasn't much into the disc 2 boss music

Feena - Now I'm really angry haha
Justin - V-slash
Sue - Go do it "PUFF"
1:25 not so tough anymore whitout those dumb tentacles now are we, you stupid kraken
its the part 1 boss theme of grandia you first hear it when you fight the stone falcon with justin and sue
( around level 3 - 4 @ sult ruins )
Kinda interesting how they used this as a dungeon theme, mainly the first half of this.
I remember that but... when was it? In the church of New Parm?
Yeah, it was when you had to go into the sewers to get inside the church.
OperationDamage
Ah I see, did it play a 2nd time then besides the boss battles from CD1?
No, but interesting enough the 1st boss theme only plays once on Disc 2 and it's the first boss you fight on that disc.
OperationDamage
it did? When?
It's official artwork from the OST. I found a copy of it years ago in some store where I live.
Very cute. Wish I had a bigger version of the pic.
"BURN! to a crisp." Possibly the best sound-byte from this game?
I jsut started this game again after 1998 when I first time played it
