When Gene Watson says: I'll try my best when answering the question: Would you sing the song? you know you're in for a spectacular performance. Surely one of THE finest Hard Country singers in modern music history with a rich and varied songbook.
My goodness such a romantic song wow !!! Gene sings the song just as good as he did before he never lost his great voice . I 'm 75yrs.old and i love to listen to all the reruns they are so much fun and what a joy... The so called Country music today is not worth listening too. The only time i listen to the radio is for the news and weather and other important news as soon as the music comes on i turn it off all the yelling and screaming drives me bonkers ...
Double check that because, Gene Watson started singing long before 1975, do your research! As you see him in his younger years but, he started his music career long before 1975! 1:24
@@sonyafox3271 This song was released in May 1975. I couldn’t get enough of listening to it on the Pueblo, Colorado C&W radio station when I was 20 years old. But it was too controversial, so the night DJ gave his 45 to my friend Becky. I’ll have to ask her if she still has it!
Such an unusual lyric for something considered "country"...pretty heavy and very adult. Somebody in Nashville once told me, "Man, they don't want no poetry down here. They just want to come home after work and listen to something simple"...I didn't agree with him then and I certainly don't agree with him now... this is a poem, or a poetic short story, rather and very clever in the fact that the writer does not have to get down an dirty about lust or attraction...it's like a Tennessee Williams play...and Mr. Watson did a wonderful job on it...don't think I could ever listen to anyone else sing it after hearing him...Wonderful
This is one unique country singer who stands above all is voice is like no one I,be heard in the past and I have liked country all my life.Gene you keep singing I will keep listening your absolutely great.
One of my favorite singers Gene Watson and great song. 'Love in the hot afternoon. ' and many many more great hits . Nice to see the reruns but many of them sadly left us but left us a legacy we are proud to own Kitty Wells Loretta Lynn Tammy Whynett Patsy Cline Mindy McCready Jeannie Sheppard and many many more. The late greats Hank Williams Stomping Tom Connors Wilf Carter Jim Reeves Hank Snow Hawkshaw Hawkins . Thank you Jerry L. Farris for putting this on utube what a joy it is to listen too.
I don't want to forget the Poŕter Wagoner show with 'The Wagon Master's Pretty Little Miss Norma Jean and Dolly Parton Mel Tillis and many many more greats . Thank you utube for putting on the reruns . What a joy it is to watch .
Gene Watson was one of the best blessings to country music. Such a perfect voice that's effortless and golden. I'm a sucker for a great country tune that's done in the way of a waltz.
This country is music and vocals that NONE of the artists in the past 20 years can even reach. I love me some George Strait but even he couldn't be this on point as these " old singers". Even the music sounds like it's on a recording and not in the large stage they are on.
Such a great tonality to his voice! Gene Watson truly is one of THE finest Hard Country singers ever! This particular number was a charttopper for Gene in 1975 and is a tasty Country waltz.
Singers such as Gene Watson and BJ Thomas uses their microphone as their lilting instrument. Its all about phrasing and moving the microphone to the correct place as different words and sentences demand different microphone positions. Few singers master this and even fewer are aware of it.
his voice only get s better with age 'his fairwell party is in my opinion the best country song ever .. george jone's is good but gean has him beat ..the only reason he did not do as good as he could was .the fact he loved to sing ballet's .unlike other singer's who sang what ever came their way ..
He needs to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Now there's one voice that NEVER lost it ~ Gene was one of my favorites and continues today. AWESOME PERFORMANCE that same as 35 years ago.
Great song , the always great Gene Watson and love Janie Fricke backing vocals!!
This man should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
He is the last true country music singers left the stuff they sing now days is not country music at all
How in the heck is he not???
Definitely would further to say he might be considered an icon of country music
Amen
@johnnysowards8818 country music today is not country music at all it's more pop.
Gene for the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Oh yea!!!
He’s a member of the Opry! 2:32

This is such a near perfect performance not only by Gene Watson but the whole set of brilliant musicians. True professionals !
Always loved this song, such raw emotion, brilliant lyrics and vocals.
Please tell me who’s going to fill the shoes of all these true country artists.
Todays singers just can't beat these professionals !! All these guys and gals are singers from my day and they're the best 👌 ❤😊
This song marked Gene Watsons real commercial breakthrough in 1975. One of THE finest country singers ever!

@@sonyafox3271 I'm aware of that but his commercial breakthrough happened with Love In The Hot Afternoon, giving him his first smash hit. Am I wrong?

Very unusual and powerful song. Two other guys wrote it, but he sings it like he lived it. That takes talent.

Jean Sheppard. She didn't like the name Jeannie[too much like Jeannie Seely, who she liked].
Now this is what country music should sounds like
Gene is still singing this song as strong as ever I seen him in Florida a few months back. If you get a chance go see him you won't regret it.
I saw Gene in concert this past Memorial Day Weekend and his voice was as great as ever !!

Now there's a stage full of legends !!!!
This song paints a picture. I miss these types of songs. You can “picture” only so many trucks and drunks. That becomes boring quickly. No poetry.
You are right
What a voice...wow
One of the best.

I will text you later
George can do honky tonk awesome damn record lables wouldnt let him do hard country 😤
He just rolls right in to it, no effort at all, and just the way it sounds on his recording. FEW can do that.
Love that fiddle! 😍 Even as a little girl I thought this song was romantic. Gene’s not just a great singer, he’s a nice guy too!
what a smooth voice I've only just discovered him so I bought his DVD . just great and I'm an old girl, probably as old as him love country music

I'm Richard Watson from Kentucky I'm gonna check DNA to see if we are related it would be an honor.
When God said, " I'm gonna create a singer." He must have had Mr Watson in mind.
What a beautiful song, it makes me want to.....you know.
when old gene sings.......they all transfix on him........great entertainment.
Still has the pipes
Saved christian brother and a friend!
The ultimate male singer!
Most contemporary male country singers don't even compare to such country greats like Gene Watson!
I love the hair you play and sing
That young fellow can sing, hey?!
He sings beautiful.🌍☮️
Classic country waltzer from the great Gene Watson!
i love his songs
We all have that one girl and love in the hot afternoon😢
He lives about a mile down the road from me in Houston one of his houses anyway
As great as another hard core country singer, Vern Gosdin. Gene Watson has a lighter voice but its just as powerful and convincing.
Can’t beat the song or the singer!
love this xx
Beautiful❤
Great song and singer
Why Gene Watson is not in the Country Music HOF I will not know
Gene Watson is the best in the business mmmmmmm mmmmmmm justed faboulies
