Breytenbach gets flak for insinuating Gcaleka 'slept her way to the top'

- Parliament has voted for Adv. Kholeka Gcaleka for appointment as the new Public Protector. During that session, DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach insinuated Gcaleka had an intimate relationship with former National Director of Public Prosecutions, Menzi Simelane, which allegedly saw her rising in the ranks of the NPA. She refused to withdraw the comments, which led to her getting kicked out of the chambers.
Director of the Women's Legal Centre Seeham Samaai says Breytenbach's comments are unacceptable. She speaks to Xoli Mngambi.

I lost respect of Adv as a woman especially the very old granny to say this to her grandchild Gcaleka in public and that manner. Granny advocate has no respect for the black women showing her side of history in this country as granny adv is white old women with no shame n respect. Your loss of respect is reflected in calling her a 'granny advocate' and then 'He must be sued...' She's a 'she'. As much as I agree that it was somewhat out of line and did pander to gender stereotyping, this to me is a storm in a teacup. As was said, debate is robust but it's unfortunate that this wasn't raised during questioning of Gcaleka.

She didn’t insinuate it, she equivocally stated that she had a intimate relationship with her boss.
The question that arises is whether the personal relationship was disclosed? Assuming that NPA has a policy on personal relationships at the workplace.

For one, neither Adv. Breytenbach nor the DA have any factual basis for that assertion. It simply isn't true, even by Adv Breytenbach's own admission. Hence why the speaker asked for the member to withdraw their statement. The statement is an ad hominem attack not covered by parliamentary privilege, and the statement perpetuates misogynoir. I hope that answers your question.
I’m proud of Breytenbach we now know how Kholeka reached there. The feminism or racial language can chill for a moment.

Breytehachte articulation should be coupled with criminal action. She undermined Parliament as well as the candidate integrity for insinuating those allegations in a forum of that caliber.

If DA believes in meritocracy, why is its leader, John Steenhuisen has only Grade 12 and they find that proper? Breytenbach must provide evidence or be sued for her comments. Kholeka must file a "Defamation of Character" charge against Breytenbach.

Sorry but your sexism is showing. Ms Breytenbach is someone I admire but I do feel she abused parliamentary privilege and didn't even produce evidence to put to Gcaleka, as far as I know. This principle of 'play the ball, not the player' in debate, robust or not isn't something I'd expect from someone who usually shows integrity, despite being a straight shooter. This demeaning of feminists in general by you is unfortunate simply because the point was raised by a party you clearly hate. Stay more objective.
I tend to support the DA but wish they wouldn't hand ammunition on a plate to the ANC at such critical times.
