I have used this model for several years with a mag mount in my vehicles . I also have the 50W that I used for my base. Both are great radios and I get consistent full quiet reports on the repeaters here in Houston . Thanks & 73!
Good to hear! Thanks for your comment Gary. I’m in H town too. I’m looking for a small unit that I can move around between my two company trucks that I drive at work and my personal vehicle.
@@stevenbeck8285 I do the same with multiple personal vehicles. I use Ferrite chokes(Polamar Engineering) and wrapped the leads to the cigarette lighter plug...reports have been great after that fix. Good luck!
This is what I run in my truck with a mag mount as well as in GO box with a LifePo battery and a variety of field antenna options. I live in very hilly and woody part of Missouri and this radio covers my county well. No complaints especially given the very inexpensive price.
Grandson who is a new Technician has this radio in his bedroom with a dual band mobile antenna on a pizza pan adjacent to a window and he gets out well and reaches most repeaters in the DFW metroplex. It's a great radio for a new operator who is on a low budget.
I have the 25x2 in my work car, the 25x4 in my truck and another one in my shack for a temp base station/Allstar Link because the mic jack outputs a COR/COS on Pin 2 if you change Menu 51 REP-M to CTDCS (CTCSS or DCS). You can do the same thing and build a cross-band repeater setup. I really dig these radios. They are cheap and perform very well! My only real complaint is the little fan in the back has bearings that will go out and make noise but you can just swap the fan out fairly easily if you want.
I have one in a go-box that I use as a base, powered by a pair of 9V gel cells, output to an Ed Fong j-pole. I use it on low power as I can literally see from my house most of the local repeaters I use. No problems, easy to use and store.
I have the QYT, 8900-D radio, which is almost the same exact radio, buttons and all. After extensive research, I discovered these 2 radios are almost identical except for a few preprogrammed functions. The Btech model offers lines 1 & 2, (and 3&4) to be synchronized together. Which can show an alphanumeric name, and it's frequency. As you change channels, the 2 lines change together. The QYT can be setup to show the same info. But does NOT sync lines 1 & 2 together. The QYT costs around $80 - $90, and the Btech is about $130.00 I like it. It preforms very well for a budget dual band Ham Radio.
Are you sure the qyt doesn't have this feature also? I specifically purchased the btech for this feature just to find out the cheaper baofeng branded one actually had all the identical features the btech was selling, just had to do some digging in the manual how to make it look that way.
@@preston1614 I setup the QYT for a friend and it did not sync the lines together. That is supposed to be a BTECH only feature but it wouldn't surprise me if they added it in later firmware models. I have 3 of the Btech 25x models, one 25x2 and two 25x4s. I love them!
@@mjw_geek I looked up both manuals, the qyt doesn't have the sync feature but you can edit each line to do name or freq. It has quad watch, a bit unnecessary but you got room to see freq if you desire. A better radio would just have a button that quickly changes ch name to ch freq. And maybe a button that mutes all the other channels besides the one you are on... simple features that baofeng/ qyt all missed the mark on but wouxun has those features (and they are super handy).
I have this radio in my gobox that I use as my base. I recommend adding another fan on it. It does get hot! I also have the UV50x2 in my pickup truck. Both are good radios.
I like BTech and have a UV-5XR, and I've looked at this radio before but decided to go with the a mono band Yaesu instead for around the same price. That said, if ICOM and Yaesu don't wise up and release dual band mobiles at this price point soon, they'll be shooting themselves in the foot.
I have the Radioddity version of this one and I am very happy with it. Yeah, a $300 rig would be nicer, but this does everything I need, and is so small that placement in the car or carrying it in a pack for SOTA are super easy.
I have one in my pickup. It's Quad monitor. Decent inexpensive 25W radio, great for a new HAM on a budget. Technically will Rx/tx on GMRS/MURS as well, please follow all FCC regulations and license requirements.
A bit dissapointed about the whole quad watch notion. Does it listen on 4 frequencies at a time? I love your channel and you are my expert! I rely on you (and trust you) to tell me what's good, what's so-so and the bad, since you have the opportunity to handle all these cool radios. I would of really liked you to show and find out what that quad watch is and show us how it works. Keep up the great work!
Quad watch means that it monitors 4 quiet frequencies at time, but when activity appears on one of them, the others are muted. "Quad Receive" would mean that it can receive a signal from all 4 frequencies at the same time, but this doesn't do that. It simply monitors 4 then receives the first one to hear activity.
The Anytone 779 mini size is on ebay for 100 dollars and is about the same size. And is 20 watts. I have had a couple of these for about two years. They are still running. I wonder if their receive is as good as the Anytone 779 though.
I had one in my semi and it seemed to develop an intermittent short after about 6 months of rattling around in my tractor but overall the radio didn't disappoint me in the least. For it's price point I don't think you can go wrong with this rig.
I just solder the wire and took out the breaker. have had two for about 2 years or so. They both still work. The Anytone 779 mini size is about the same size and price. Can't say i recommend this one over it.
Thanks Jason. Great video. I like it when you get the radio on a power meter! Tells the tale for sure. I wish all these radios with wide receive would get the Air Band because I like listening to the local airport traffic. But that's me. Bridgecomm has that Anytone 578 mobile that has Airband and DMR. It is considerably more expensive than the BTECH 25X2, though. Thanks for this video!
Got a food cutting board from a $1 store. Used some super strength Velcro. Can place radio on board with the 'cro. Place in RH seat. Use hand hold board and run sear belt through it. Easy on and out of car.
The supply voltage spec is 13.8 +/- 15%, so maybe they rate the power output at the high end (~15V)? This radio was actually performing decently if at 13.8V though.
Biggest thing I’m looking for is for something that is temporary in my work van. So not having to hook it up to my battery and ground it would be nice. And naturally not drilling any holes.

I have seen one mounted on a HFT jump start battery set for portable ops. What is power draw just on standby? Does the rig get hot? 25W in a small box even with a fan could create a meltdown.
I have the 50V2 in my car and a 25w 8900D in my girls car. Both are GMRS and I would recommend both. The 50v2 is my favorite so far, until I get the KG1000G…..

TYT has an 8600 2/.70M dual band. Seems the TYT and BTech have simular main body "shells". The 8600 has .2 watt draw standby. Great if you are pure battery. Torn between this and the 8600 sold on R&L site. Both support HR 2.0. I have ordered from both. The 8600 does come with the programing cable. This one you have to order extra. Maybe this radio has its niche somewhere but my opinion on these btech radios is #1 overpriced, #2 featureless, #3 fatally flawed. Say you are monitoring 4 channels, if you get activity on two or more of the channels at the same time, they didn't include a button to mute the other channels. That's a huge flaw because it's such a hassle if you want to participate on one frequency while the others are going and to mute (change the other channels), is a headache. Just not a very good, well thought out series of radios. Wish I had never bought my 50x2, there's so many better ones for around the same price.

Torn between this and the 8600 sold on R&L site. Both support HR 2.0. I have ordered from both.
The 8600 does come with the programing cable. This one you have to order extra. But build quality does way in my mind. Will listen to yor review before ordering.
how do i scan frequencies.. like i said qnewbiwham
omg thanls for informing a newbie ham the friggin model no means jesus
Filtering for intermod?
If you’re thinking of using this for satellite work, IIRC it doesn’t desense between VHF and UHF, and so a pretty good solution for that.
Power on standby 4W @ 12V. So 4 /12 = 0.33333... A. Not bad.
How do I convince my wife that I need more than 3 mobile units?
Get her to get a license!
Everybody Ed Fong tonight!
😆
Fan-freakin-tastic Jason! I’m going to go find me one of these bad boys right now! And good boy for announcing your call sign on all your tests! 73, Tom KC3QAC
Have eyed this on and off for years now. Maybe its time.
YES ITS FOR ME, I WANNA SCAN FREQUENCIES.. TO STORE POSSIBLE EMEGENCY OR CALLS FOR INCIDENTS ETC.. shit capslock..
Needs more power. 25 watt is ok but I would like to see more power.
They have a model that is 50-watts, called the 50x2. So they have one for people who want more power and also less power (or smaller)
Wow...hardly ANY responses to his viewers on his own video.
What would you recommend in the < 300 price point?
Thanks!
You bet!
