The app I used to test out each earphone driver is called "FFTWAVE" available in the IOS app store.

This was a fun project but unexpectedly took longer than i anticipated. I think next time I'll try things out differently.. maybe.

KZ should get rid of the metal plate in the box and included a semi hard case and some foam tips.
The metal plate is just stamped and lasered. KZ aims to make it cheap. Pressure molded case might add manufacturing and shipping cost and be something not everyone likes. I use their ABS "water resistant" case for my AS10s. You might try that.
And also use metal for the housing. I totally wouldn't mind paying a little more for upgraded and more durable materials. With as dirt cheap as these are, people would really like these improvements, even if it costs more.

I second the Foam Eartips and a secure lip for the tips to attach to on the earphones. Storage cases are cheap on Amazon. I would like them to standardize the Audio cables in their lineup. There are multiple choices that are incompatible.
My first thought, even a basic case is really expected at this price point. A basic snap case or soft zip case likely costs pennies to manufacture and would easily fit in the box. Foam tips are basically a standard upgrade on these and would be just as cheap to include.

The only reason the glue would be a problem is if you are taking apart the headphones

The glue probably acts as vibration dampener whilst keeping everything snugly seated. The last thing you'd want is contact-to-contact rattles travelling up the shell and into your ear.
Just a suggestion but you could use pink noice next time. It’s all the frequencies at the same level. Then you can see the full range of sound that the headphones produce :)

Please post the testing results for all of those drivers. Do they deliver the frequencies they mention in the specs.? & What are those Specs.!! I mean does it deliver what it says!!!
FYI, your "plier clippers" are called Side Cut Pliers or just Side Cuts. All that glue sure will definitely keep the drivers in place.
I appreciate all the glue keeping the components snug. Some insurance against a piece getting loose and buzzing.

What happens when you put each driver close to your ear , do you hear individual parts of the frequency ?

Playing music while testing didn't make for a great read. Consider white noise if you ever embark on the adventure again. Or maybe pregenerate a file with several seconds noise - one second silence - repeating on a loop - so you can tell that the recording is working as desired.
The print might be SLS, in which case, yeah, quite an amount of glue is needed and it needs to stay liquid for the life of the device. The surface of such print is porous, so acoustic seal relies on glue, and the polyamide material has enormous propensity to reject glue and get itself unglued. This process is very well suited to small parts being produced in quantity of hundreds per day with no variation.
Thanks for this Z! really clears out some speculations about these cheap hi-fi gears of KZ! I would love to see a review of KZ Zs4 which is what i am using today. :D loving the bass rumble of these. More power Z!

You could've make a schematic while you at it. It is very hard to see on the video where the wires go. It would be useful if someone needs to repair it later.
Very helpful video! I currently use the AS10 as an on stage IEM at a mega church that seats 3500 so very large. Including a band and two of the five services we have a full orchestra. The AS10’s work great but my only complaint is that they are so bulky. I’ve been looking for something comparable to these in quality and price but that are more slimline to my ear. We are on TV every week with multiple camera so what they look like counts. Yes I know I need custom but they are out of my price range at the moment. If anyone has a recommendation I’m willing to try. Thanks for the video again.

I hope KZ has not abandon making low priced headphones. My ED2 and EZ9 are one of the few headphones that I own that are in perfect condition & produce good sound after heavy daily use.

Thanks for the video! I really like seeing the insides of these types of things, since I use a lot of them, (ZS10, ZS6, ZSR, ZST, Even ATE.), I think the app you are using is actually better for showing the spectral response of each driver, (rather than showing if they work), which is pretty cool. (The bass in that song must have been pretty weak though.) The only thing I might offer for constructive benefit is that I find the 'Do all the drivers work' motivation to be a bit of a turnoff. They would be crazy to put fake drivers in there, since it would destroy their reputation that they have worked so hard on, and it almost seems a bit ignorant to be tearing them down to 'put them on trial' so to speak. Truth be told, the amount of scrutiny these things get is pretty amazing given their price point. I supposed that is due to their industry rattling prices. So that being said.. of course they all work! Now... if you had run pink noise through them all so we could see how the sound spectrum is divided between them.. THAT would be COOOOL!

@@Assimilator702 AS10 is AWESOME. I use them without EQ, but they hold EQ like a boss, taking any signature.

s8grave I just ordered them. I’ll have them tomorrow. I don’t like to use EQ but it’s good to know they can handle it. I have the Nuforce EDC3 which are very nice once you find the right tips and they don’t seem to react very well to EQ. I boosted the bottom 4 bands of the upper sub/mid bass region and the sound seemed very compressed. Those are $100 and they are pretty good now with some thick single flange AudioTechnica tips and some double flange from MEE. I was actually thinking of picking up some SpinFit tips for my EDC3 but then I started looking into the KZ reviews and figured hey.....why not try a pair for only a few $$$ More. I mean 2 PACKAGES of Spinfit tips which have 3 PAIRS of tips cost $22. The AS10 is $42 more. No-brainer.
I’m hoping the AS10 is a touch better than the EDC3. I just want some thing to use when I don’t want to put on my full size headphones or need something with strong bass that open headphones can’t keep up with. These will never leave the house and will always be connected to quality gear playing mostly FLAC and High Rez files.

I like how they tuned, not bright, not muffled, very fast and punchy lows, great separation, detail. Not sparkling like many other BA-buds.
I had shure 535, westone w40, es60 and some other stuff.
And chi-fi amazes me.

Does it matter that it works? I guess you should test if they work in the prescribed frequency range. Plus you should compare the EQ graph of the song on your phone to when it is played by the earphones. There are a lot of variables from how your DAC converts the digital signal and also the placement of the mic and driver but I guess more precise is better than less precise. Anyway. I guess if you find 5 drivers in an earphone, all of them should work or else why would they take the effort to put in a dummy
This happens a lot with shitty cheap knockoffs. They put in something to make the product look more impressive, they make something with semi transparent shell and show off the "goods", people are inclined to buy, buyer responds well to showy products and feature list buzzwords. I have seen it done utilising electret microphone capsule rejects which cannot work due to batch manufacturing mistake - when one happens, next thing you know you have 50 000 pieces of little junk, since it's highly automated. If the manufacturer of rejects had to send them off to recycling, it would cost them, so they're happy to find someone to unload them onto. It could also be dynamic drivers too terrible to use or something else. Manufacturing faults happen all the time.

it seems they changed the glue for all the new ones because my older KZ ZS5s would unglue themselves with drastic changes in heat which happened twice (and they were kind enough to send new IEMs each time)

Great job. You might want to try an exacto knife to get into it. Also, why not try using that app and that microphone or an inexpensive but good lavalier to try to measure the whole earphone. It wont be perfect, but it will be relative. And you could build your own simulated ear canal using plastic tubing.
Would be cool to check the actual db on a consistent white noise played thru the drivers.. Nicely taken apart tho..

They're pretty small. With exception to the Bass driver. And even that is small.
Then create a 10 driver iems per earpiece..20 in total.🙄
Mads Franzen You’d have to figure out where to place them and create channeling. You can’t just toss them in a shell and call it a day.

the cross over plate so big and components far apart, they can compress the cross over plate 1/5 of the size thus it will help to also minimize the earpiece design. The thing is, 5 BA with only small component while shure SE846 has 9 components 4BA?

Hi bro I'm using kz zstx and since few days sticky material (glue) is coming out from the 2 pin connector and between the casing of kz zstx.. how to resolve this issue permanently
I have the ES4s. They have great sound but I think they're just not for me...they're too bright, and have that forward presentation you've mentioned in previous videos. The sound is just too "in your face" for my taste. They also have some noticeable sibilance when watching videos or movies and sometimes the bass seems a bit too bommy. Considering the low budget/ budget price range which iems would you suggest getting? I like balanced sound, if it has some enphasys on bass it's no problem as long as it isn't that emphasised boomy one, more like a deep, rich subbass. Also a more laid back presentation (less bright) fits my taste. Could you give me 2 ou 3 suggestions in order of preference? Thank you
A nice pair of memory foam tips makes them excellent and solves all of the problems mentioned!

@@joseluisorellano69 You have to check the diameter of the hole in the tips and see if they fit. Mine have 4/5 mm diameter and they fit nicely.
How to choose the crossover so that the drivers they tuned perfect. Is that with a cross-over board or dumping filters?
The BASS of left side of my KZ ZSX phone stopped working after just 2 months of use. I did all the possibles tests (I'm a collector of headphones), so I'm sure I didn't damage it by misuse. The strange thing is that only the bass stopped working, so I don't know if it is the PCB board or the frequency divider (the middles and treble continue to work). The problem is not with the cable. I paid $50 on it. Do you think IEM lasts for a short time (even if you are very careful with them?
I broke one of the ameture drivers (water leaked in) and is there a way to replace just the driver?

so much glue was holding this together, no wonder they opted for an opaque shell instead of transparent type this time, still, the internals look solid, though not pretty. There are triple driver earbuds that are three times the price of these and drop dead gorgeous called shozy&neo CP, how shozy keep adding an & to their name always baffles me, maybe take a look?

This is an amateur question, but is possible to buy a proffesional music player to like 120€ ? I havr BGVP DMG, which I consider to be solid in-ear monitors, but playing music trought mobile is a sound quality killer. So I am thinking about this players and dont want to spent like a lot lot xD

Why would you ever use 3D printed parts? It takes ages to print and i dont see any reson not to use normal molded plastic.
those molds are very expensive to make... 3d print might be a better option for small and complex parts too.
Knowing KZ that shit out new model every few months or so followed with discontinuing the older model, 3D printing parts would make more sense because new molds is considerably expensive if the product only be manufactured at limited time and at smaller quantity compared to the cheaper models.
like everyone said, molds are expensive to manufacture and unless there are 10s of thousands made chances are it is not cost effective. You also have more leniency of changing the design for different models with 3d printing instead of making a new mold.
It's because 3D printing is almost the only sensible way to produce a complex buried channelway structure like this acoustic crossover without seams and risk of unwanted voids. Since 3D printing is layer by layer, you can manufacture channels and voids that don't have a direct access from the outside! Otherwise, you'd have to make a mould of the channel structure, cast the channel structure plug from some temporary material that can be removed later, cast the acoustic crossover around that, remove (dissolve) the plug... a very fiddly process with so many steps so defect rate can be difficult to get low.
So what if 3D printing is slow? A single powder SLS machine will still spit out hundreds of those crossovers per day, fully reproducible, zero defect, almost no hand involvement. They're tiny and take up so little material. It also translates 1:1 from prototype to mass manufacturing. It's perfect.
np cross over it seems that they cram those 5 ba and solder it to interconnect with each other.. heheehe
What can you recomend me from KZ? I have ZS6 now, they sounds good but they shape a bit sharp and no comfy. Iam a basshead so.
As10, zst pro, es4. Those should all be good (lots of bass without the harsh highs)

@@LeshaRodin ES4 has the most bass. AS10 is the most accurate overall and doesn't hit as hard. ZS10 is in the middle.

@@lenhau7444 No it's actually not crap. I have more expensive iems and the sound signature of the AS10 is very close. If they were crap I wouldn't have bought a second pair. Let me ask you this......what type of music do you listen to? What is the quality of music files you use?

What is the purpose of this video ? just to test each driver ??? You should give me more detail frequencies respond on each driver. And you should be using a Pink Noise to test the driver.

Five Drivers per side? Thats amazing! Now I can understand why these cost so much. But what about other bluetooth earbuds? They use a single driver and still cost as much if not more then these.
@@artvertex4152 But thats all on a single chip. I took my JBL earbuds apart and there's what looked to be two chips a few caps and resistors. This product looked to have way more engineering put into it.
It doesn't mean it sounds better tho, the driver quality and tuning is more important, otherwise those huge brand won't selling their at 10 times more expensive than this
My mistake is i did listen to the reviews, and i didn't audition these iem... ended up buying one then literally used just one time, then replaced it with Shure SE215 which is really good compare to this.

If you love lots of bass, sure.
I have both. Absolutely. I use ES4 for calls, with the in cable mic/pause/play. AS10 with Tsr 8 core replacement cable makes a world of difference: bass doesn't spike painfully.
