Don't worry about the doggos! They're trained to stay in their kennels, they get trained as puppies to see it as a cozy place and they like it. They were just excited to get to work! Also, as you said, huskies are built for the cold weather. Their fur locks their body temperature, that's why you should never shave a husky in the summer, even when it's very hot, because it's the fur that keeps their temperature balanced. Those were very happy huskies

A local here, yeah as said the dogs are fine, they are a working breed used to the cold weather. During the Covid crisis the dogs were mostly unemployed and the owners were losing their livelyhood. These dogs can't be adopted to the ordinary homes, they need a LOT of exercise and can't stay inside homes. One owner was crying on TV that if the lockdowns continue she has to put her dogs down. Luckily the tourists are returning now.

As a native laplander (further north), I wish that everyone would get the chance to see the northern lights. And so great of you to do a test prior to travelling here even if it's not necessary when entering the country, unfortunately the numbers are now spiking hard in lapland so we are getting alot of new restrictions in a few days. Oh, and the huskies are perfectly fine. They love the outdoors.

!Information about dogs living outside!About the huskies and them being out!
It's very normal to huskies and some other breeds(finnish spitz and other hunting breeds that have a lot of fur) to live outside. The dog houses are made to be warm places for them, but they also aren't bothered by cold since they are very used to it and they have lots of fur. If done correctly they usually have enough space around the dog house too. Those dogs who are used to living outside won't enjoy living inside, they get restless and too hot. Also about the barking - huskies are pretty damn noisy and it's normal for them to bark a lot😅And they love their job. Also from what I know these husky safaries are watched by vets and other authorities who make sure everything is done correctly and the dogs are well❤I am not saying there can't be places that aren't doing everything as they should, I am just trying to give you some info on what's normal😊

I had a rough neck border collie (like lassie) and she was huge and fluffy with her double coat, she hated being inside even hated being in her outside hutch would lay out on the path in a pile of snow and snow completely covering her and she loved it! Although on the very very cold nights we'd bring her in but she was never happy and would jump at the chance to sneak out past us again lol we tried nailing carpet and dog beds into her hutch but she would rip them out 😂 she was truly an outdoor dog!

That's what I was going to say as well. I have a husky whippet mix and several of my neighbors have huskies in our townhouse complex. Husky dogs howl and are very vocal, that's normal, mine talks to me all day long 😀, I'd be worried if she wasn't constantly chatting at me lol. My dog loves all the snow we get here in the Pacific Northwest in the USA, we live in Eastern Washington State by the Idaho border. All the huskies in our complex love the snow and they all hate the sun/heat. I'm sure it seems shocking to see them like Soph described for people who don't have huskies or people unfamiliar with this breed or snow dog breeds but as long as they are being cared for with food, water, exercise (they love to mush) and a lot of love, affection and attention then they are going probably pretty happy dogs.
I hope the trip was lots of fun, it's on my bucket list, in fact if I were to ever get married I'd want to do it there under the northern lights.

  • @greyparrot8

Don't panic about the dogs, I know it seems really alien to us! I work with dogs, and Northern breeds like huskys love being outside especially in the cold- even in UK pet homes many owners will tell you they have a real nightmare getting them to come inside! Also most dogs (especially those bred for purpose) live to work, they love it, and in reality even our pet dogs need a job too, especially those who were historically bred for purpose- think about seeing a collie chasing a car or a jogger, they need an outlet for those innate behaviours or they become 'self-employed' :)

I went to Swedish Lapland (Björkliden) about a month ago. I had the time of my life there! It took us about 22 hours from Örebro where I’m currently doing a semester abroad. Visited beautiful towns like Kiruna and Narvik in Norway, and did activities like Arctic survival, snow shoe hikes, visiting a reindeer farm and doing a husky safari. The scenery is also amazing especially if you are lucky enough to see the northern lights (which fortunately happened to me), plus the saunas after being in the snow for hours. I would recommend it to everyone. Glad you enjoyed your trip :)

The huskies or dogs in general used in rides like that or for sledding are considered working dogs, and not really pets. Like they become pets when they retire from sledwork. They are kept in cages like that because for sledding you'll need like, maybe 7-8 to 10 dogs and not everybody can keep that many dogs in their house.
A big part of sledding culture is that the quality of care your dogs recieve is the quality of dog sledder you are yourself.(That is what it is like here anyway!)

Huskies love running. That's why they don't make very good pets. They get frustrated very easy unless you like taking them on hour long jogs. They are also fine with cold weather. They can sleep in the snow without getting cold.

    • @analeasejac4703
      @analeasejac4703 2 роки тому

@@ratflail215 they love running yes, but the concern is if they're just kept in cages not doing anything else then it'll bc like an obsession to run and when they aren't doing it they're unhappy. it's about enrichment outside of running alongside too then they can become distressed when not doing the one thing that keeps them from boredom

I’ve been waiting for this vlog! So surreal to see you experiencing my home country during full on winter😂 Btw, the weird solid snow at around 9mins is ’kantohanki’ which happens when the temperature drops and the kinda melted top layer of snow freezes fast❄️

Also, the best time of year to see the northern lights is actually autumn (like September-October time), even though winter is the usual choice! The prices are also quite a lot cheaper during autumn, which is actually my favorite time of year in Lapland☺️

@@Evemiia_ definitely Lapland is something you need to see in every season! I'm still missing autumn.

@@Evemiia_ Autumn is great if you love hiking and camping and seeing the beautiful colours; winter is wonderful for the novelty, winter sports of course and Christmas festivities; spring is bad, don't come in spring and summer is great for the novelty factor of "nightless night" aka it being sunny nearly round the clock. Finland's weak points are the prices, sad food culture and lack of public transport outside bigger cities.

We unexpectedly saw the Northern Lights in Northern Minnesota while visiting relatives. We were up from 1 am to 4 am, just mesmerized. Luckily, it was the middle of summer.

Just started watching your vlog. We were in Rovaniemi with Tui mid Dec. Tui were so good, everything was so efficient, from transfers, to getting kitted out with snow gear. I could clearly see online with our booking itinerary & what was included, sorry you missed that. We stayed at Forest Heights, although that's Tui's name for it. Locally it's called Ounasvaara Sky Hotel, beautiful.
Our 6 yr old son loved it, but the whole place is great for everyone! Thanks for posting, I'm now going to watch the rest xx

Huskies are working dogs. They are the happiest when they are running and pulling a sledge in a group. That's why they bark when they know they are going for a run. They sleep in kennels outside but can manage sleeping just in snow.

Super cool trip. I really want to go to Finland. Your advice will be super helpful when I go.
I used to have a reindeer farm about 20 mins from me; we were trying to hire them for a Christmas event but apparently they were nervous the reindeer could catch something my goats/giant bunnies. (Very common concern with farm animals...I totally wasn't aware.)
My mom used to summer around her Aunts and Uncles up North (Northern Ontario) and they did the sauna then jump in a cold lake. Her aunt-in-laws are both Finnish.
I have a Wolf shirt from Jungle Cat World zoo camp. (It's more about conservation and breeding programs than anything.) I wear it for pjs now but literally never saw one with a wolf's face like the one I have.

Hi, thanks for the video! We locals often wonder why so many foreigners want to visit Lapland in mid winter, the coldest and darkest time. Finns prefer spring, it's warmer and more daylight then, the snow stays till late April atleast. Even Santa has his office open :) P.S You won't meet bears in the Arctic in winter, they hibernate ,)

And yes, every time I took my huskys inside the house, they were inside for 10min until they were begging to get back outside, no matter how cold it was. And they are obsessed with running and snow. During summer time they are miserable with the heat.
