    Good video regarding the Allen and Heath m e 1 setup, however my question is how do you hook it up to the Allen and Heath SQ7 mixing board?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  11 місяців тому +1

      On the Mixer, go to the I/O screen. Select Outputs and IP direct outputs. Then press the ME option. Now you can patch the inputs to the MEs. If you’d rather send an Aux, you can switch from IP direct to Monitor Out. You can also mix and match these.

    Love this! I think i want to try one with our QU32. Im a new self-trained sound guy. Im trying to see if this takes up any sub groups or aux's or if it just allows the user to mix their own. We want wireless IEM for vocalists and im thinking using these will help free these up for keyboard player or drums. Thanks in advance!

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! The way the MEs work with Allen and Heath mixers, you will not lose any Auxes or Groups. Also, if you plug a wifi router into the network port, your singer can control their mix on the Aux you have them plugged in to from their phone. The Qu-You app that will allow you to do basic volume adjustments on one Aux.

    Thanks for the video. We have an SQ7 but we were told we could plug the ME-1 directly to the console? We were encouraged to buy a ME-U. Is that true or is that because we have a DX160 stagebox that is at 96k instead of 48k?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  8 місяців тому

      Yes, this is true. The DX stage boxes run at 96K and will not down sample when connected to the MEs. You’ll need to add an S-link card to the board to connect a DX168 and MEs.

    Can you use the Me1 simultaneously with the ME500

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  5 днів тому

      Yes, you can daisy chain (pretty much) as many ME1 and ME500 units as you like if they all have their own power. If you’re using the MEU, then units connected directly will be powered via PoE. Each unit is a like a miniature mixer that receives and passes on any channels it’s sent.
      The main thing to be aware of is that the ME500 will automatically assign the first 16 mono or stereo channels you have patched to keys (stereo channels must be odd/even pairs and from stereo sources or tagged as stereo in the MEU).
      The ME1 can also work like this, but you also have the freedom to patch any channel to any key, use groups to send multiple channels to a single key (e.g. Drums) as well as there being a local mic for ambient sound.

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  4 місяці тому

      No just a 3 band EQ on the master of the MEs. If you’re working with the SQs or higher, you can duplicate the input on the board and send that to the MEs if you want different EQ (or processing) than what the board is mixing for that channel.

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  3 роки тому

      Hey Linton, unfortunately there is no way to configure an ME outside the ME. I would recommend configuring one and then using a usb stick to import settings to the others. If you have an ME1, it will auto populate channel names based on the console. The ME500 does not have the same feature.

    Hi there. I've been using ME-1 with my Qu-16 for 2 years now but I just got back to my setup and my ME-1 (daisy chain 4X) don't recognize my entries on my Qu-16. I've made the firmware update and check all my wire connection but no success. The ME-1 all work individually. Where should I look to solve this issue? Thanks.

      Try the Reset Source List option that I mention at 4:06 after you’ve connected everything together. If you’re still having an issue, reach out to Allen and Heath support. You can call (800) 431-2609 and follow the prompts or email support@americanmusicandsound.com . If you do call and it says to leave a voicemail, they’re actually really good about calling back. We haven’t encountered this problem.

    When a channel is muted in the main mixer it is also muted in the monitoring mixer, how to avoid that?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  Рік тому

      You have two options to remedy this. You can set the routing so that channel does not go to the Mains. If you’re on an SQ or Higher, you can also use that same input on another channel. So that Input is duplicated own two channels. The Processing and routing will be completely independent, including mutes.

      On top of having a headphone out, there’s also a 1/4” output. You can output either to a phone. If you’re on a newer iphone with no headphone jack, you’ll need to get an adapter to go from 1/8” to lighting.

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  2 роки тому

      Hey Yoseif, under Processing, go to Direct Out Global Settings. Make sure follow fader is turned off. Then select Direct Out Source to your preference for the ME1. This will select where in the channel strip the signal is sent to the Message. I would suggest either post preamp for the raw signals, or post delay if you want any EQ, gating, or compression sent to the MEs. Also ensure under the IO Patch screen, you select Monitor, and then patch all your mixer channel inputs to ME inputs. The easiest way to do this is make a diagonal line with the patching, then hit apply.

      On the I/O screen, select Outputs, then Rack FX. Select ME on the second row from the top. Here you can select any of the FX returns to go to your ME.The Effects Returns will eat into your total ME input count. The ME1 has 40 inputs, so you can select from the console inputs, Rack FXs, Auxes, Groups, Matrixes or PAFLs.

    Question:
    Is the Local Mic the only means of “TalkBack” functionality between other ME-1 on stage or could the “Aux In” be used as a “TalkBack” line also?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  2 роки тому

      The local mic, isn’t necessarily for talkback. That mic signal can not leave the ME. It’s so you can blend in the ambience of what’s right around you. You can run any signal you want into the aux in, but it can not take a mic as an input. Needs to be a line level signal.

    If you are using wireless IEMs on an all Dante system, could you send a ME-1's mix via Dante back to a Dante enabled wireless IEM transmitter?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  2 роки тому

      The ME1s don’t have a way of turning around the audio back to the console. They have stereo 1/4" and 1/8” out but that’s it unfortunately. If you want to run Dante to IEMs, I recommend using a switch that has wifi built in. You can run IEM mixes on the SQ4U phone app. Assign each phone to an aux running to the IEMs.
