Ashton Turner - wow, your presentation style is so relaxed, confident and articulate! You don't waste words, either, covering a huge amount of material compactly in less than 15 minutes. I think you were completely fair in all your commentary about the pros, cons and costs of the various options. My only additional thought is that ease of use for non-technical musicians is a major factor to consider for those of us whose worship teams cover a wider age demographic.

Great post! Super informative. I am a drummer. At our church we use a Midas32 board with Behringer personal monitors for our band. Our singers use wireless in ears with the midas app. For my in ears, I use 1964 Ears (pre 64 Ears). I've had them for about 5 years now and they are awesome. I went with the quad drivers because these had 2 bass drivers, 1 mid and 1 high; I mostly prefer to hear my bass player and my BD. Customs are waaaaay more advanced now...and more expensive...much more.
One advantage of the personal digital mixer over a mobile app based system is ease of adjusting while playing. I've seen musicians get really distracted trying to get their phone out of a pocket and finding the right control. Some of us manage to set the mix perfectly during soundcheck but, for those who don't, it can be a lot easier to have a physical knob you can tweak. We LOVE our Allen & Heath ME-1s (which work with other consoles as well as A&H - we have the Digico SD9)

We went with the ME-1s a few years ago and never looked back. So easy even the technophobes in the band can use it! No more messing with the monitor mixes for individual band members which saves lots of time when setting up.
a tip if you are wanting to get custom IEMs, Alclair has the dual and dual xbs which are more affordable. I as a drummer got my dual xbs back in November and I've never wanted anything or needed anything more they are the perfect transition from universal fit to more expensive custom. My total came out to just over $450 after options but they start at only $300. And as the drummer mentioned in this video the clarity I get in my mix using both the p1 and my dual xbs is top-notch. And alclair's support 10/10.

We use a Behringer X32 board with the S32 stage box. We just started using IEM a few months ago and got the stage noise way down by going to IEM system. We also enclosed out drums. The difference is night and day and our sound engineer is so happy that he can now mix for FOH instead of the praise team.
We went with the AudioFusion system and a three head phone amps for the Drummer, Bass and one more. We looked at all the other options but figured that we would give the Audio Fusion a try after watching Jakes review, all we had to get was a good router.
We are in a fixed location so we can leave everything hooked up. Our mixing board is up in the balcony so we ran (2) CAT 6 cable down to the stage and have the SoundCaster app running on a Mac book near the board. I already had a MacBook pro and some Apple Iphones so I figured why not give it a shot.
It did take some work getting the system do what we needed, like a few conversations with Brad of Audio Fusion and some Wifi set up but, in the end its working. The guys at Audio Fusion are great to work with. We are running 6 team members on Audio Fusion and yes we do get a little drop out once in a while but I can live with it to have a stereo mix and all the controls at my fingertips. We have literary no latency in the system that we can tell and the sound is awesome.
Now for the recommendation on the ear phones.
I started out with the the Sure 215 because I had now idea of what was out there. Waste of $100. Because I wanted something that sounded better I did some research and got the KZ AS10. This set was around $65.00 and sounded way, way better then the 215s in my opinion. You can look up many reviews on UA-cam. However this is a fairly flat monitoring system and many people want a flat mix unlike your typical music listening headphones with more lows and highs. My guitar sounded thin and I wanted more bass in my ears. So back to more research. If your not up on all the new in ear monitors out there right now, go do some research because now is a great time to get some awesome headphones for a great price. I can not afford $600-$1500 for a custom set, so after much reading and video watching I went with Linsoul TFZ NO.3. This is an amazing IEM and at only $109 you cant beat it. I just wish someone would have told me prior to getting two other pair. But thats why Im telling you now. I am not sponsored by anyone so I have nothing to gain but Im telling you, if your looking for a little more bass in your monitors give them a try. I still cant figure out why musicians would need a flat monitor mix anyway as Im not mixing for FOH I just want my mix to sound great, well now it does.

We use Allen and Heath Qu 16, and PM1 amp for our drummer, myself, backup singer, and guitarist. And also we use rechargeable 9v batteries. Trasition from floor wedges to inears took some time. But after 2 - 3 weeks the whole band got used to. And they wont play or sing with out inears.

We’re planning to upgrade from an older Presonus board with Behringer Powerplay P16 IEM setup to an A&H SQ6 (or maybe SQ7) and thinking ahead about our IEM solution. Based on your video and aptitude of our worship team, I think what we’ll ultimately need is a variety of the physical A&H ME-500’s and fully digital SQ4You Mobile App with headphone amps. I’ll keep doing research, but this gave me a great headstart. Thank you!!!
I use behringer p2 on my gigs for bass and synth. And btw you can get stereo mix to p2 and pm1 with y-cable
We use the mymix personal mixing system, direct outs from an sd9 and then stereo out of the mymix into sennheiser g3 iem packs.
i plug my wireless in ear (currently psm 200 until i can get the 300) into my behringer p16 and get the best of both worlds. total control with no attachments
I’m a volunteer for a church in the 1% that is able to afford the PSM1000s ; however, we have used the Behringer Powerplay P1 when we have an oversized band and it’s worked great (we typically only use them with drummers and or keys players).
I'm surprised that ambient mics never came up in this guide. Fantastic video and super helpful information all the way through. I am just wondering if you guys find this to be necessary to relieve the "stuffy" feeling that comes from in ears mixes. Thanks!
We (the EFG-Gundelfingen, Germany) use the following Setup:
6 Mono Sennheiser ew 300 IEM for most of the Band and an cable-bound Stereo for the Drummer (actually an Behringer P1 should arrive on friday to replace our old 20€ In-Ear-Amplyfier).
All of this driven by an Presonus StudioLive RM32 AIy StudioLive CS18AI and Q-Mix as software for the musicians

We are using a wireless transmitter from Aliexpress called Anleon S2 (U$ 88) paired to Mee Audio M6 Pro IEMs. Our console is a Behringer X32 and this wireless system is working really well and is super cheap. That is only for the lead singer. The rest of the band uses a couple of Powerplay PRO XL as amplifiers. That transmitter is also available on Amazon, but it is cheaper on AliExpress.

Ok I get the equipment part of it. What I'm seeing in any of the iem videos is how to get the cleanest sound. Should we compress/limit instruments such as bass or guitar in the monitors to keep the distortion we sometimes get in check.
You should check out Digital Audio Labs LiveMix system. It’s a personal mixer system that isn’t from the mixer companies. They have options for 2 people on one mixer and the have a breakout box to send the mix back through the cat cable to a wireless system backstage.
We use AVIOM system with the sound craft vi4.

We have a Behringer X32 en we work also with in-ear. We are able tu use a ClickTrack and reduse the stage volume and that is great. We are a traditional Dutch church and we don't 'dance around on stage' so we use a wired solution and that is perfect for us. Maybe in the future a wireless-solution- update for the singers. We use a different setup for the wired solution than i see in this video. We have two 'ART Headamp 6 pro' right below the Behringer S16 stageboxes and we have made some 10 meter cables to every musician (male-stereo 6.3 mm to female stereo 3.5 mm) and it works great. It gives us a verry good sound quality. We use the Behringer app to change the settings and we have 3 stereo channels what gives the gitarist, pianist and the drummer a much better sound. What i also like about this solution is that the settings for every musician will be saved when you save the scene at the end of rehearsal or a service. I think the downside of the personal mixers is that the settings are stored in this mixer and with a different musician or another band you have to start over again with mixing your peronal mix. This solution is not verry expensive and is realy great for us!
We use a very similar setup with but have the M32R and DL32 stage box. We use the Presonus HP2 headphone amps but I find they dont have enough output for me. It might actually be a variance between boxes because some of them have more output than others. For our drummer we have an Art Headamp Pro 6 setup that he's using one channel of. That thing is SUPER clean sounding and has loads of output. Also, you might try saving your own in-ear mix as a snapshot that you can recall when you play. You can choose ONLY the mixbuss and sends you need as a snapshot. Either way, Behringer outdid themselves with the X32/M32.
Do you have any experience with Ultimate Ears vs the 64’s? I’ve heard great things about both but have been leaning towards either the UE6 pros or UE11 pros
Also, how do you incorporate a click into a drummer using the behringer P1?
Great video. I have a question. I want to monitor my vocals in my ear (no other instruments). Can i use basic regular earphones that comes with smartphones at least to try this out?
Drummer here...I went with 64 Audio A4 IEM's about 2 years ago and have never looked back. I was fortunate enough to sample both the 4's, 6's, and 8's. Overall, I liked the 4's better for live performance. I am able to feel the punch from the kick and still hear all the clarity I need in the high end. Initially, I was worried about high end clarity b/c I also sing with a female lead and need to hear her to help find my harmonies. Once I put them on, all my worries subsided. One of the best music expenditures I've made.

which ones did you purchase with 64Audio? I new to using iem inears what advice can you give me about purchasing great quality sounding ones? I don't like the shure ones that I have read about too thin sounding. The inears I'm using now are just the regular KZ series ones.

What you mentioned around the 5.13 mark of having 2 receivers and 1 transmitter, sharing a mono signal.... how do you balance out the click and track sound?
With stereo you can push the click to your left ear etc... but I was just wanted to know how you guys do or did it with mono signal... did you have the click as the lowest sound in your ear or the loudest ?

I am running a tear down church and have purchased an behringer xr18 stage box and use that software on my pc. I use voco pro wireless mics and want to get wireless in ear system. Do you need to worry about interference with all the other wireless? and if so what would your recommend?
hey Jake with Audio 2000s, did you remove the plate in that back? Theres a toggle in the back that increases your RF strength from low to High. It is the stupidest thing I've ever seen....but honestly after we removed the plate and moved the toggle up---there has been zero static. like none. its kind of crazy. I've had the PSM300 and the other "industry standard" systems and the audio 2000s has really held its own. especially since I can change the packs to any receiver with a simple channel change! ive used them for a year now and I've honestly enjoyed them. I now use a PSM300 system---but honestly....I go back to the audio 2000s frequently in many situations.

Is my older Aviom A16 in ear system compatible with the M32R digital mixer ?
Does in ear mix come directly from M32R to xlr to band member ?
We have the Samson MPL 1204 mic mixer and I was wondering if that is a digital mixer or not. I looked it up and all it showed is that it is discontinued everywhere!! If anyone can let me know exactly how old this mixer is or if it is compatible with in ear monitor systems that would be great!!
When we were analog we use a x32 getting an analog split of all our channels and then the x32 send to the p16 but know we use aviom a360with Dante.
And in our gym we use the me 1 with our gld-112
Question - I'm just getting used to IEM's.. when I sing with IEMs, is it supposed to sound like I've jammed my fingers in my ears (like my voice is all muffled)? Just wanted to check.. if so, then maybe I just need to get used to it.
This could be related to how your mic is eq'd, or to the quality of the in-ear drivers themselves. The answer is no, they are not *supposed* to sound that way. A longshot possibility is that you should try a different type of driver, just temporarily. Like a decent quality headphone rather than the in-ear, just to see if you get the same result. If you do, then you're probably looking at an issue with your mic such as how it is equalized. If headphones make it better, then trying a different in-ear transducer is probably in order. Just some quick thoughts for you.
We recently implement digital sound with an behringer x32, and pm1, but I have a problem. I use a pod go to play acoustic and electric guitar, and when I prepare the patches with the same inears plugged to the pod go directly sound great, but wen I use it on church (pod go direct to PA with xlr balanced) the sound I get on my in ears is too harsh and mid rangy, Iwe don’t know what happens, in ears monitors are pre fader and pre Eq, but still sounding very harsh, can you give me some advice?

My church runs p16s with wireless in ears. We have stage compartments so they dont have to he on the stage.
How did you implement that?
our ‘in-ear’ monitor system is different but viable / our 2-piece band uses the Soundbrenner metronome app as a click track & it can connect to Ableton Live via Link, so we use stems but we can only hear the click track in our ears, nothing else 🤷🏾♂️
Landon The tracks we use typically have a pre rendered click and prompt track in Ableton which is a lot less strenuous on our CPU and we don’t have to worry about third party software (which can be a pain in the butt).

Landon We typically use PSM1000s from shure but from time to time we use the Beringer poweplay P1 for drummers and or keys players and mix them via our board.

Why in the world would you recommend a presonus studiolive at all. I would not recommend that console to anyone. It is a terrible mixer that no one should be buying in 2019 over the X32 or M32 and if you have the money definitely an SQ mixer. Presonus is pretty universally reviled
The audiofusion system is one of the worst options. Terrible latency. Bad documentation. And it only uses iPhones from the last handful of models. Do not recommend.
We have been using this with good success. It took a bit, but it works good and we are running 7 channels. They deleted my other post that gave more info.
Latency was my first thought when I saw this technology being described. I wouldn't want to depend on anything that requires WiFi as it's basis of transmission. Everything on WiFi takes time to process, and it doesn't take much latency to make a headphone feed useless. Like about 5-7 milliseconds in my experience -- I'm very sensitive to this after years of implementing digital processing and consoles in radio stations.
Mark Croom precisely! So many supposed professional audio engineers think 10ms, 15ms or more is unnoticeable and it doesn’t matter. Remind me not to let you mix my in-ears lol
