I’m a leftie, but I’m teaching myself to write with my right hand as I learn the Palmer Method. I think it makes it easier - I’m not having to unlearn wrist-writing or other poor writing habits as I go. I’ve got the muscular movement down after a couple of lessons.
I like your presentation! Sadly, the learning and writing habits of many have dissipated leading to a difficult understanding of what is has been written! You're onto something great! I wish you much luck while you continue pressing forward! Semper Fi
Thank you, David! I'm currently attending a calligraphy/ penmanship class and Palmer's method is being taught. But I am very grateful to have stumbled upon your channel and it has been extremely helpful! Many blessings! 🙏
Interesting, for me the more tense grip is to have the fingers curled and relaxed is having the fingers slightly straightened. I love learning the details of the mechanics.
Hi David, I chanced upon your videos looking into ways to pick up and get better at cursive writing, and I hoped you could answer this question. I realised that I can't actually hold and position my hand the way described in the palmer method due to a disability I have, and my hand is locked into a position very much like what is shown in 3:58, the one on finger writing. However, I (think I am) writing more in a way that utilizes the arm or forearm for writing and not the fingers. Do you reckon I can still pick up Palmer's method without the ability to use the Palmer method of positioning my arm? If not, could I at least still learn cursive?
You can definitely learn to write with your arm in that position. It does prevent a challenge in the beginning, which is that is much easier to slip back into finger writing from the position you describe. So you’ll have to be wary of that. You might also have some unique challenges with some of the forms, but nothing that can’t be overcome.
Thanks, I see, that was a really speedy reply. I hope what you've said is right, and I'll do my best to try learn cursive from you and from all those before me. :)
Hi David! Thanks so much for this great stuff & all your efforts to promote this amazing writing method! I got a quick question about the grip: does your middle finger touch - lightly touch the paper over the last two fingers? Or do only these last two touch it? Thanks so much!
I assume this is only really doable when doing cursive writing rather than print? I never learned cursive writing and it seemed impossible to produce print writing using this method.
You can print with arm movement, but it’s not easy, especially when writing small. Honestly it’s not much easier to write cursive with your arm, but it is a little more natural due to the flowing nature of cursive script.
I feel uncomfortable with the palmer method.I feel like I am a kid who try to hold the pen at the first time when they start their schools. However I'll keep trying.Thank you again for your work ☺️
Hey David, great work on the series. You're very inspirational and it is so awesome to have a penman with your dedication present in the community. Thank you for the shout out as well. The video you link is more general for left handers, but this one here is more specifically on muscular movement for left handers: ua-cam.com/video/TqPsKKUlBMo/v-deo.html Both may be helpful to lefties. Thanks again and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
@@amgame9489 oh, i still use fountain pen and cursive handwriting, though. I know that many people don’t write manually anymore in this modern technology, and I’ve heard that nowadays students aren’t even allowed to write in cursive :/
By far the best palmer method video i've found so far ! THANK YOU !!!!!
the bit from 5 - 7 minutes made it click for me, thanks!

Interesting. Who's teaching the Palmer Method? Always good to hear about it being taught!

My middle finger doesn’t touch the paper, just the last two fingers.

but we have all already learned it when we were still a kid, right?
learned it as a kid in school. but i find i need to be reminded to keep me writing well. todays gadgets does not help ones penmanship.
