    Thanks for this video! I took delivery of my C12 in April of this year and couldn’t be happier! It is the best “bang for your buck” with enough volume to very nicely fill up the Recital Halls!

    Truss rods aren't intended to adjust action although it can and does affect it , it is to adjust the straightness of the neck or gain clearance . If the neck is correct then the saddle height is for adjusting action .

    I've been considering upgrading to the Cordoba C-12 for a while now. Your video convinced me to do it. I'm really enjoying the elevated fretboard. The lattice bracing makes the guitar much louder. 👍😀❤️🎸🎸

    I actually purchased this guitar with a spruce top to use while I work my way through my luthier's waiting list. I wish I had just bought a nice vintage Kohno instead for a little more. First, all the strings were about 5 cents sharp when fretted at the 12th fret. That was such a large amount that I had to cut a new extra wide saddle to get to the correct intonation points. Months later, the neck had warped badly (far beyond a truss rod's ability to correct. My luthier said the neck wood had simply been too wet when manufactured. He did a fret job, leveling the neck, and yes, at this point, it sounds very sweet. A new guitar should not require so much work though! Still, your video is a fine quick walk-through. You just can't know the sample variation and long-term issues.

    Got my C12 last week and noticed after playing it a couple times that there were what looked like saw marks at the edge of the fretboard on the high E side around the 1st fret. Like there was a low spot that the planer could not get without taking away too much ebony fretboard material. Also the neck dipped slightly inward at the same spot. It looks like they tried to salvage what should have been made into a B stock guitar. My advise for anyone out there buying this guitar, it is still factory made. Make sure you look it over. I'm sending mine back for the issues with the fretboard and will think about whether I want to get a replacement, or go with a different guitar. I do love the sound of the C12 so I may just get a replacement and hope it's in better shape.

      Interesting.
      My Córdoba Fusion (entry level), though a good instrument, has a dip in the neck about half way up. It doesn't affect anything, but is a bit unusual/disturbing.

    Picked up a C7 as my first classical instrument, have around a dozen steel and electric guitars. Have to say I’m fairly impressed even with the lower end of the range. I wasn’t willing to invest much in it as I’m just beginning to learn classical style out of curiosity and not sure how long I’ll stick with it, but I’d say what I got is doing pretty well, if I can manage to stay with it long enough to enjoy it then I’ll definitely be looking at a higher end instrument at some point. Thanks for the video...

    I am just starting to learn classical guitar. I have been using my acoustic guitar to learn, but I love your lessons and would like to make a purchase of Cordoba Guitar. I feel I would buy either Cordoba C5 or C12 not in between. But I am torn which I should go for? As I am a beginner, I feel like I should buy C5, but I would want to buy better guitar soon... so I feel like I want to buy C12 to reduce a double spend. Would you recommend C12 for a beginner like me or should I start with C5?

    French Polish is a coating application method rather than a coating. Shellac is what is used in French Polishing and can be mixed or simply bought at a box store like Home Depot.
    It is easy to do but is labor intensive because of dry times between coatings as well as having to wipe excess oils away with spirits after each coating.
    It has to be applied in many coatings which drives up production time. And this is a big part of why instruments with Shellac cost as much as they do.

      You would notice a difference for sure between the C9 and 12 but it won't be huge. However, getting that little tiny bit extra is why people spend so much on luthier made guitars so it's worth it if you feel you need it.

    The store that sells this guitar here in Bangkok closed due to Covid, but I picked up a Prudencio Saez that is not nearly as pretty looking but is very loud with good sustain for much cheaper. Hope to get a chance to compare. Maybe I will pick up the C 12 someday or fly up to China to check out the luthiers up there and see what they are up to. There is a street called "guitar street" in Saigon that sells guitars from local luthiers, but now I am ashamed to admit that the best guitars that I bought there are pretty bad relatively speaking. The Cordoba C 12 is massed produced in China. I have an old hand made-in-Spain Madrigal, not as loud, but has some very nice colorful timbre. Not a bad idea to check out old guitars. The old Japanese Shinanos--not Shimano after the bicycle derailers-- are very nice, but there are some excellent better old guitars from Japan. The Cordoba C 12 is massed produced in China. I have an old hand made-in-Spain Madrigal that I picked up used in Bangkok, not as loud, but has some very nice colorful timbre. Thanks for the nice reviews I have seen from you...

    I bought one of these -- red cedar on beautiful rosewood, and the tuning machines are just godly - in appearance and in smoothness and functionality. The C12 is feather-weight, and sings out in big pianistic tones. This video review is accurate enough. I've played a number of guitars in my life, and I don't know of one, *for this price,* that's both louder _and_ closer to "pro" quality tone. Note I'm not saying it _has_ that true, concert-quality, "pro" tone. Close, though! This is 2017, and they're topping $2K in USD, so they'd better be good, aye?

      Yes - "big" is a good word. The fault I've had with every "off-the-rack" classical I'd ever played was a high E string that was too quiet... just no loudness at all for some reason. Not this C12! The high E, and all the trebles, are like BELLS. So pretty.

    I purchased the Cordoba C12 recently and noticed that whenever the D string is fretted using a chord shape, A, Am etc. it buzzes.
    I took the guitar back to the shop and they confirmed the issue and ordered a replacement. The replacement arrived and it too buzzes on the D string.
    Not sure that a brand new, reasonable high end guitar should have a problem like this - anyone else who owns one noticed that?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar

      That is too bad, sorry to hear it. Is the action too low or does the truss rod need adjustment? Usually new guitars might need a small adjustment after settling into your climate after leaving the dry warehouses.

      Tough to say. I've had lots of experience with the C12 and they always sound good to me. The truss rod is nice to have in factory guitars, allows more adjustability. There are tons of brands these days and even a few luthiers that offer affordable models now but I haven't tried most of them. Sometimes it's better to stick with a cheaper guitar and save up for a really nice one instead of trying to hit the middle. That said, the used instrument market is a good bet as well.

    First reaction to the sound was that it was muddy by which I guess I mean the various strings were bleeding into eachother's herz range or whatever. Was it the mic or was I imagining it? Well as soon as he played his luthier-made guitar it was confirmed. I didn't have that reaction to his c10 review so I'm still curious if this is an accurate observation, since the c12 is +$500 over the c10. Maybe it's just a function of it being a bit louder than the c10 which is a good thing in theory. I just listened again and I think the c12 was overloading the mic, causing the muddiness I mentioned.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  6 років тому

      Don't trust the mic too much. The big difference is small rooms vs concert halls where the C10 looses out to the C12 in a big way. That said, the C10 sounds lovely in the practice room.

    • @cambium0
      @cambium0 6 років тому

      Sounds right. I won't be in the concert hall anytime soon so I guess if I can come up with $1000 I know what to do!

    • @Unrippling
      @Unrippling 6 років тому

      I agree, it sounds significantly muddier. It doesn't sound like the mic is overwhelmed to me (I checked and the c10 sounds muddy also). The Marcus Dominelli is more clear, resonant, open, and full, with cleaner sustain. No production classical guitar I've heard sounds like ones made carefully by hand. I think he's right that the thick lacquer is playing a role, but there's a lot more to it. Every decision during the selecting, measuring, cutting, assembling, is based on experience, skill and sense. One common issue is that relatively lighter guitars resonate more, since Nylon doesn't have much mass to move the wood, but they're less durable, so companies may build a bit heavy and that little bit makes a big difference in the sound.

      @Thisisclassicalguitar  5 місяців тому

      In general, the C12 is louder, bigger, and more responsive to the touch. I would say it matches the price increase. That said, if you just practicing solo repertoire in a small room the C10 can be great. So i suppose it depends on what you are using the guitar for. In many regards the C12 is an effort to provide a guitar that can better keep up to expensive ones but with a lower price tag. If you can afford it though, the C12 will provide more tools for the long run in a wider array of situations. But if the C10 is more at the right price for you it will be lovely.

    As soon as you played one bar on your guitar there was no comparison in clarity and articulation of the notes. I have a couple luthier made steel strings, but I can no longer afford that level. However, the Cordoba was very impressive for the price. After 65 years of playing, I got into nylon string jazz, bossa nova and classical about 3 years ago. I think of myself as a late blooming Charlie Byrd. I'm in the market to step up from my Cordoba Fusion 14, and the C12, GK Pro Negra and the Prudencio Saez PS28C are on my list. I'm in a very rural area 300 miles from a chance to try the Cordobas and a thousand or more from trying a PS28C. Later this spring I'll make the trip to try the Cordobas, but if I decide on the Saez, it will have to be on a hope and a prayer. Any thoughts on these three for possibly the final guitar I buy as I approach my final decade?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  3 роки тому +2

      I think it depends on what you are doing. the C12 is a great price for a workhorse type guitar. From solos to ensembles, various styles etc. Pretty good in all situations, loud enough, easy enough to play, it will do it's job. The others you mention have specific sounds and purposes connected to specific styles and genres so it depends on your personal preferences. For some people a balanced working tool is what they need for all the things they do. Compared to, for example, a flamenco player who will want a specific type of guitar.

I mostly play midrange guitars, namely Takamine ec132sc, Yamaha NCX1200, and the like. Seriously though, at that price point I'd buy the cedar and spruce version of the c12. I think it is worth the extra money if you want a guitar that will "keep up" with other more expensive guitars volume-wise. Doing reviews is always weird because if an inexpensive guitar is half-decent I'm impressed with it and consider it worth the money.
