My van has door straps, they ensure the doors can only open so far and prevent it being grabbed by the wind and pulled all the way round. Common enough occurrence in Shetland.
Bless you, it really isn't your fault that the van door got damaged. These things just happen, the van can get repaired, as long as you're all safe and well that's the important thing. Thanks for sharing you adventure the good and bad... Real life. ❤️

Gaffer tape and a small tarpaulin - always handy things to carry. Glad you are all okay, shaken not stirred and i hope it hasnt dampened your enthusiasm for Scotland too much. Winter in UK is always going to be tricky! You really do need to get yourselves a really good weather app, one which tracks storms in real time via satellite. You can then see how fast storms are approaching, and whether they are heading the same place you are 😫 it will take out the guesswork. Safe travels

If ever that happens again where the wind wraps your door around you can take a small block of wood or even a shoe with a thick hard sole and place it first between the door frame and the door itself by the lower hinge . Push the door as if you're trying to close it pinching the object between the door shell and frame. Repeat the process by the top hinge till the door is back far enough to close on the striker. you'll still have damage but at least you'll be able to use the door.
Good idea a towel or thick clothing can also be used in the same manner ,in strong winds the big doors on vans act like sails ,it's happened to me ,towel fixed it .hope your ok guys ,the weather's much better now .

Hello you two. Same happened to me. Wind ripped door out my hand. Cost £400 to repair my van door. The guy / a friend who fixed it said they get hundreds of repairs the same. High winds , keep hold of the door firmly. It’s happened to so many. Don’t feel bad about it.
Hi nick put a peice of wood in the door on the hinge side and gently pull the door towards its closed position and stretch the hinge/door back to position move the wood up and down till you get it back to where it should be 😊

Hi Sarah, I can connect with how your feeling as they same thing happened to me in February of this year, we get strong gusty winds where I stay in Scotland, this particular late afternoon, I parked my car in the driveway opened the door when a huge gust came from nowhere whipped the door out of my hand and sent it right back towards the bonnet of the car making a dent just like yours, I was shocked and devastated I had only 81 miles on the mileometer it was only 8 days old. 😢, you do get over it but the trauma is real ❤

Sorry to see you got so upset about the van door, it was however just an unfortunate accident that could've happened to anyone. TBH in a storm when the wind is gusting it can blow in any direction so we don't think you did anything wrong. In those situations you have to just thank your lucky stars that you weren't seriously hurt. Don't worry too much about the van we're sure he can be repaired. As you know the weather has been very bad here in Spain but one of the worst areas was the region where you have a casa in the Malaga area, so hope you get your van door fixed soon take care both 👏👋
Drive towards somewhere with a larger population and I'm sure you find a body shop that will sort the van door out, perhaps look on the web for a set of door hinges and ties you can pick up on the way.

Great to see your ok, what a shock with the door. The storm does look scary. So brave jumping in that dark loch, i have an extreme fear of dark water. Always carry some duck tape, never know when it comes in handy. Hope the rest of your journey is calm and peaceful.

Great to see your ok, what a shock with the door. The storm does look scary. So brave jumping in that dark loch, i have an extreme fear of dark water. Always carry some duck tape, never know when it comes in handy. Hope the rest of your journey is calm and peaceful.
And baling twine, (it's usually orange or blue) the tape and twine combo has saved the day many times in my years on the road. 😂

So sorry to hear about your damage. It sucks and I totally sympathise. We broke a rule recently, parked under a tree, and now regret that as we had a branch fall and go straight through our roof.... totally sympathise and we also won't do that again! But just to make you smile - LOL at the blooper.... totally agree!!! Good boy Charlie hahaha!!! 🤣

Oh, I'm so sorry, guys! I hope your hand is feeling better, Sarah! I get it...winds can be brutal, scary, and dangerous (I live in Florida - storm central!). I'm bummed for you about the damage to the van. When you're far from home and something happens to the vehicle, it can be a nightmare. I'm glad you have each other to lean on and glad it's a door and not the engine or a tree coming down on your roof! Fabulous place was there a month ago stood on the bridge watching the boats & ducks go by .stunning scenery. Would definitely visit again & van friendly.
