    About 4 years ago my parents adopted a baby Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, he loved me and my dad but absolutely hated mum. He was so tame and could sing the song 'perfect' he enjoyed hugs. Unfortunately he got caught in his cage and we found him dehydrated. I loved him so much, I'll never forget him. I have a pet cockatiel called Bert now and he is just as tame. It takes a lot of patience to have parrots and I do understand your comments, they can bite fingers off with ease, if not handled properly.

      Sorry about your Cockatoo. I have cried more than when some of my pet dogs have died than when my family members have died. If humans could be just 1% like animals then the world be a better place. You might like this. ua-cam.com/video/7rfGEtALHYs/v-deo.html

    Amazons can actually live for up to 85 years. The Amazons live the longest of all other parrots. Africa Grey's can live to be 50 years as well as McCaws. I moved out of my parents house are age 13 and I had always wanted a parrot. It took me a few years of training wild caught birds. That's not the easiest thing to do. I'm now 51 and have a Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot. Her name is Larry Bird and she's 15 years old. She sings many songs, I'm opera and I change the lyrics to make the song about birds. I have a 22 yr old girl, that Larry loves and so Larry will be willed down to her.

    • @d.e.b.b5788
      @d.e.b.b5788 5 років тому +2

      Hyacinths can live to be 90, same with other macaws. Other larger parrots also can live as long as amazons, such as cockatoos and grays, but you usually only find that in captivity where they aren't getting eaten by predators or sick from bad foods. Like humans, it all depends on the individual. We had a rather large collection of books on parrots in our library, sadly, when we got divorced, my wife wanted the books, so I just gave her what she wanted. So I don't have sources for my information. But you can probably find the information on parrot longevity in any major library.

    • @haydendefazio1555
      @haydendefazio1555 5 років тому +1

      Where did you get your info from? Cockatoos can like 90+ macaws can like about the same! Please do some research before sounding like a dick head

    • @lottatroublemaker6130
      @lottatroublemaker6130 3 роки тому

      They are called «Macaws», not «McCaws». Their name isn’t a European sirname. From a dictionary:
      «macaw (n.)
      species of large, long-tailed American parrots, 1660s, from Portuguese macau, from a word in a Brazilian language, perhaps Tupi macavuana, which may be the name of a type of palm tree the fruit of which the birds eat.» 🤗

    • @lottatroublemaker6130
      @lottatroublemaker6130 3 роки тому

      @@haydendefazio1555 - That cockatoos live to be 90+, is for the most part a myth. You said: «Cockatoos can like 90+» which doesn’t make much sense, but I’m guessing that you tried to say «Cockatoos can live to be 90+ years and Macaws...». You asked others for the source of their information, but you did not give a source for your information. Who is the source for your information/claims?
      From The Spruce Pets by Dr. Lianne McLeod (Veterinarian):
      «Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva), also called the Turquoise-fronted Amazon and Blue-fronted Parrot, is a South American species of Amazon parrot and one of the most common Amazon parrots kept in captivity as a pet or companion parrot.
      Raj Kamal / Stockbyte / Getty Images
      Parrots comprise a group of birds that includes 279 different species. They vary in size from small birds that can fit in the palm of your hand to large birds the size of a cat and their lifespans are just as variable.
      Pet birds can live for quite a long time. Potential owners need to be aware of the longevity of their bird so they can be prepared to provide proper care for them for as long as they live.
      Average Lifespan of Parrots
      Parrots are special among pet birds because many species have the potential to be with you for your entire life. They also often outlive their owners. Parrots usually live longer in captivity than in the wild because they are less likely to encounter predators and disease while living in a home. That, however, doesn't mean they are exempt from illness and shortened lifespans.
      As a general rule, the larger the bird, the longer the expected lifespan is. Listed below are some estimated lifespans for common parrots and other pet birds. These are, of course, based on a healthy bird kept under ideal conditions. In reality, there is a wide range in the age that pet birds might reach and certainly, some will live longer (or shorter amounts of time) than the ages listed.
      African Gray Parrots
      40 to 60 years, or more
      Amazon Parrots
      25 to 75 years
      Budgerigars (Parakeets)
      5 to 18 years
      Caiques
      Up to 50 years
      Canaries
      10 years
      Cockatiels
      10 to 15 years
      Cockatoos
      20 to 60 years, depending on the species
      Conures
      10 to 30 years, depending on the species
      Doves
      20 years or more (in the wild it is only about 1 1/2 years)
      Eclectus Parrots
      30 to 50 years, or more
      Finches
      Typically 5 to 9 years but it can be longer if housed in an aviary
      Lorikeets (Lories)
      10 to 30 years
      Lovebirds
      10 to 15 years
      Macaws
      30 to 50 years, or more, depending on the species
      Pigeons
      15 years (in the wild it is only about 5 years)
      Senegal Parrots
      Up to 50 years (in the wild it is only about 25 years)
      Pionus Parrots 25 years
      Parrot Lifespan Factors
      The most common factors that affect a parrot's life are nutrition, veterinary care, and mental health.
      Your parrot will thrive if you provide them with a secure and clean enclosure with plenty of space to climb and spread their wings. They should also get lots of natural sunlight or full-spectrum lighting (rather than artificial light alone) as it will allow them to better process nutrients and establish an appropriate day/night cycle for their mental well being.
      Some birds should also be housed with other birds since they are a flock species. Humans cannot take the place of another bird, no matter how hard we try.
      If you are purchasing a pet bird, make sure to choose one from a trustworthy breeder. They should be able to provide you with health information on the bird's parents since genetics are also a factor in longevity.
      Giving your parrot an appropriate diet will also help keep it healthy and prevent disease. A well-rounded diet includes pellets, grains, seeds, nuts, and fresh fruits and vegetables. A balance of vitamins, protein, fats, and minerals (such as calcium from sources like boiled eggshells) is critical in maintaining a bird's health and longevity.
      Giving a bird a diet that consists mainly of sunflower seeds (which birds love) is one of the worst things you can do. These contain high levels of fat and very few nutrients.
      Famous Old Parrots
      While many individual parrots have lived a considerably long time, a couple became very well-known for their extended years.
      Alex is probably the most famous parrot. He is known for his work on the avian language experiment (which is what his name stands for). He was purchased from a pet store by Dr. Pepperburg and lived to be 31 years old. A book was written about him and the research he took part in. It was thought that he had the emotional level of a two-year-old when he died.
      Cookie the cockatoo was a Guinness World Record holder as the longest living parrot for a time. He died in 2016 at the age of 83 and lived almost his entire life at the Brookfield Zoo after having been shipped from an Australian zoo at about one year of age»
