  • Jason Doyle has a day with the Castle Fieldsports syndicate in Co Offaly, where guns, beaters, pickers-up and even the pheasants muck in to make a great driven day. He is trying out his new Rizzini - and the plan comes together. That's not all. Jason also completes his PRS series by taking a look at the equipment he uses, including Bergara B14 HMR rifle, Bushnell Forge 4.5-27x50 scope on a Warne Skyline mount, and Hornady Match ammunition.

    Why shoot game birds?
    Game is wild, natural and free range, and it is one of the healthiest meats available today. It is low in cholesterol and high in protein. Results from research commissioned by the Game-to-Eat campaign (Leatherhead Food International Research 2006) suggest that there are real health benefits to eating game. Both pheasant and partridge contain high levels of iron, protein, vitamin B(6) and selenium, which helps to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
    In addition to the nutritional benefits of game, game shooting is worth £2 billion annually to the rural economy and supports 74,000 jobs. There are 480,000 (UK government figures) active game shooters in the UK who enjoy bird shooting under the principles of the Code of Good Shooting Practice.
    More than 2 million hectares are actively managed for shooting in the UK creating proven (PACEC, 2014) conservation benefits and preserving important habitats for a diverse range of flora and fauna, in particular farmland birds. UK shooting providers spend £5.4 million on cover crop seeds every year and maintain over 25,000ha of wild-bird cover.
    We’re proud to promote enjoyment of fieldsports and the countryside. There are three guiding principles to everything we do on Fieldsports Channel:
    ▶ Shoot responsibly
    ▶ Respect the quarry
    ▶ Ensure a humane, clean and quick kill

    The Hornady ELDM in 6.5 Creedmoor is fine to use for Fallow and anything smaller than Fallow. It does the damage really well. It would probably work well on a red deer if it was a good broadside shot but, it is a pretty flimsy bullet construction even though it has the big hollow point behind the ballistic tip, its still a thin jacketed bullet. I found no difference in accuracy between the ELDX and ELDM myself so I shoot mostly ELDX. I don't shoot past 400m though so maybe the ELDM do better at the longer ranges. Thanks for the great show.

    • @tiputipu777

      You need to realise that the eldm is a match bullet just like scenar for example. The hollowpoint is there for construction purposes, not terminal performance. They have not been tested for terminal performance since the manufacturers only concern is to get the bullet to the target, they dont care what happens to it after it hits its mark. I use scenars for birds and they work wonders. Would be careful on using match bullets on bigger game, since the bullet will definately shatter into a million pieces if you strike bone and will not kill the animal especially in a soulderblade hit.

    • @HerrGesetz
      @HerrGesetz 4 роки тому +1

      @@tiputipu777 True. Never used scenar before. 6.5 Creedmoor ELDM does kill medium game really well, if your PRS rifle is zeroed with ELDM you can take it straight out and use it on the smaller deer species. I have tested it on Fallow and it kills with devastating effect, just a mushy mess inside. As I said though I don't buy ELDM anymore because factory loaded ELDX is just as accurate so does both roles.

Also if you are shooting wet conditions make sure you take it off occasionally and wipe the barrel down otherwise you'll get a bit of rust. When I set mine up, try and get the camera sync with bead at least 50 yards. If you do it at 25 yards, anything plus 50 will look like you are shooting a foot high because of the angle from the bottom. Looked like a great day out.

    I go on several pheasant shoots in north Wales as a beater where the birds are a lot lot higher than the ones you are shooting, and the people who shoot on our grounds are proper shooters who don't use red dot on there barrels, take them off and use your own skill and you will be well pleased when you do shoot a proper high driven bird, your video did not impress me or my fellow beaters at all.

      Graham Whitley I also shoot on estates that have much higher birds but variety is the spice of life and I enjoy these lowland forestry shoots as well. Not everywhere has the terrain of North Wales. I think you misunderstand how the ShotKam works, it’s just a camera, the red dot isn’t visible to the shooter.
      What shoots do you and your unimpressed fellow beaters beat on? If I get the chance I’ll make sure to try and get to one of them to see how I get on.
