Parker was a great character. He was always the one taking action. Picking up a knife after Kane’s death, wanting you go hunt the alien with a flame thrower, saving Ripley from ash, trying to fight the alien to save lambert.
I know why you want to say this. But all 7 guys made this film. Every single performance was stellar. Can you say Yaphets performance was better than Holms? Skerrits? Harry's minimalist performance was also brilliant. All 7 of these guys are immortal imo
I remember watching Aliens in the theater when it debuted and when his photo appeared onscreen during Ripley's "debriefing" with the company, the audience burst into spontaneous applause.
The bit straight after he finds Dallas's gun in the vent is one of the most tense parts of the film and he really made me feel his vulnerability and fear.
Yaphet was indeed a great actor. I liked him as Parker, as the likeable but doomed bartender George in Five Card Stud, and as the first main villain for Roger Moore's era as James Bond. R.I.P., Yaphet.
He was great in Alien. I loved how he went from only wanting to get home and party to becoming more than frightened when the Alien appeared then to picking himself up by the bootstraps after Dallas dies then angry and wanting to kill the Alien. You can see he was protective of Lambert and how he respected Ripley knowing the end was most likely near. Amazing actor!!
Him and Ripley both had their heads in the game as both knew of the risk of the Xenomorph on the ship but Dallas and Ash ignored that ended up getting them all killed except Ripley and the cat.
@@jackwei22 Agreed. And I think it's in the director's cut but Parker was the only one to suggest that they freeze Kane which might have spared the entire crew and perhaps even Ash wouldn't have opposed that since the alien would most likely have survived being put into stasis.
Yes, the progression in his character was something really impressive. The "we found this laying there [SLAM]" scene was great. They all showed how strung out they were getting over the thing, except for Ash of course, and the frustrations and dynamics between them were so realistic. Ripley is really scared but she shows them she is the leader now and Parker is motivated by her because she has her head on right about getting rid of it.
After losing my cat to health after 17 years. I adopted a new cat and his name was Parker. They asked me if I wanted to change it but all I could think of was Parker from alien. Plus my cat Parker is quite the chatter box. So I can always reminisce sigouney weavers famous line to Parker.
Over the years I've come to appreciate Yaphet in ALIEN more and more, he was immense in that film. A Black man playing the Hero even though Sigourney was the lasting Hero, Yaphet was the ships Hero.Rest In Peace Big Man.
I was there in the audience for this back in 2003 at the long since torn down Uptown Theatre. Ridley Scott's agents and cinematographer from Alien were sitting behind me and we chatted. A great and memorable night.
Rest in power to this great man. Outstanding actor, one of the greatest to ever do it. He put his heart and soul into each and every single character he played. Respect to a legend...Mr Kotto
This man is one of the GOATS!! Sigourney as the heroine was perfect, and Yaphet's character was so real and believable!! That is and will always be just a terrifying movie!!!
I can’t like this enough. I loved him in Homicide but I first saw him in “Alien”, my first ever scary film scene in the theater (with my parents). God bless him and his family.
*MORE PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR THIS MAN'S MESSAGE!* His words are so true!!! It's sad that this video has been here since 2016, with hardly any views.... his death will bring lots more to this page. I feel bad for being one of them. But, in his death, he brought a BEAUTIFUL message to the world!!! Everyone: please HEAR this message!!! I'm watching again!!
because my life is a big film quote and often I say "that thing was big! it was like a man!---THAT SON OF A BITCH WAS HUGE!" as well as many other quotes xD so he has been part of my daily dialogue for actually over 30 years
Let's not forget his part in the 'Running Man' with Schwarzenegger (circa 1987). From Drama to Comedy, Yaphet Kotto is such an acting force. Loved his performance in Homicide LOTS. RIP, Sir. Thx Alonzo!
We need a mashup of Parker versus Lumbergh. "Yeah, I'm gonna need you to come in tomorrow..." "Let's talk about the bonus situation." "Umm...yeah, you're gonna need to talk to Payroll about that..." Thanks for the career inspiration.
Lumbergh: Yeah, Parker, you didn't put the new cover sheet on your TPS report after you rerouted all those ducts. Parker: Look it's not in my contract to do this kind of duty, if you want to give me some money I'd be happy to do it. Lumbergh: Yeah, I'm gonna need you to come in tomorrow... Parker: Let's talk about the bonus situation. Lumbergh: Umm...yeah, you're gonna need to talk to Payroll about that...and I'll go ahead and get you another copy of that memo. Parker: Now I know why you never come down here, you ain't got no personality Brett: right
It's always fascinating seeing him pop up in other movies after first seeing him in his most famous role as Parker in Alien. He is so unique and I was horrified seeing such a tough character get so easily subdued by that creature. It was so visceral.
@@PungiFungi that's so true! There was another where he played some fugitive figure (?) who falls for a woman along the way. Again totally different as well as Homicide Life On The Streets such a gritty character there.
I found the ScreenPix channels on Comcast’s programming. Man…this guy played in a ton of movies leading up to 79’s Alien. Across 110th Street, Monkey Hustle, Drum and like and handful more films that I can’t remember their titles. I love this guy!
A fucking Legend! I'm watching Blue Collar right now with Kotto, Kartel, and Pryor. Alien is a masterpiece. Yaphet has some bad ass stories I bet. Ha ha
You know...{this actor had such a presence and charm to me!} I loved* him on the Homicide series...and I definitely had a crush on this man! Yes I did😊...💯 💚*
That scene always makes me laugh. You can just feel how wound up and afraid everyone is in that scene and Ripley has HAD it with people not listening to her.
He's absolutely right; Kotto helped pave the way for actors like Idris Elba to do just what he mentioned here and Sigourney Weaver did the same for women. Ellen Ripley, contrary to what modern sorts insist otherwise of us male fans these days, awed me when I was a teenager watching "Aliens" back in the 80's. She did not make me feel "threatened" or anything like. I wasn't aware he'd passed, sorry to hear that!
There was diversity in the 70s and now they are acting like it never happened and we need more and more. What a horrible way to negate those who have come before.
respectfully, i'll disagree slightly. oh, Alien was a landmark in a LOT of ways....and Yaphett was great in it. But i'll also take a moment to mention Duane Jones, who played Ben in Night of The Living dead back in 1968. He cracked open a door a LOT of black actors have walked through since. and Props to Romero for casting him .
Jim Brown in the Dirty Dozen. Sidney Poitier was the number one box office star of 1967, with three boxoffice hits that same year. Let's not forget pioneers like Lena Horne either. Goodness, I could go on- James Earl Jones, Harry Belafonte, Fred Williamson...
He was the best part of Alien. The whole cast was great but he stood out the most with his performance. So believable. Love him

Yaphet Kotto is one of the most natural actors of all time. He was also great in Brubaker.

Yes it was great how the characters came together and how brave Parker was, he went from being cynical and selfless, how he tried to save Lambert.
Him and Ripley both had their heads in the game as both knew of the risk of the Xenomorph on the ship but Dallas and Ash ignored that ended up getting them all killed except Ripley and the cat.

RIP Yaphet Kotto chief engineer Parker.

RIP amazing Yaphet who passed away 15 March 2021 aged 81😥😥
You stood up to that alien on your feet and didn't go down on your knees ! RIP
It's not just ALIEN, his performance in Live and Let Die is absolutely brilliant. I have to say he was easily the scariest Bond Villain imo.
RIP Yaphet Kotto! Peaceful Journey!!
Great Actor !
My man, yaphet kotto. Giving segourney her propers. I especially liked his performance in alien- the directors cut.
I loved him in Alien. Such a great movie & a great actor.

Love Yaphet!. Been a huge fan since Live and Let Die. Absolutely fabulous in ALIEN. The man is a clinic in presence!!
This man is one of the GOATS!! Sigourney as the heroine was perfect, and Yaphet's character was so real and believable!! That is and will always be just a terrifying movie!!!
Amazing actor. Huge fan of Yaphet Kotto.
My two favorites roles of his are; Parker in Alien (1979) and Laughlin in The Running Man (1987).
I can’t like this enough. I loved him in Homicide but I first saw him in “Alien”, my first ever scary film scene in the theater (with my parents). God bless him and his family.

He will be always remembered for good. In the role of Parker he was amazing, great and very realistic . RIP Sir Yaphet Kotto.
Yaphet Kotto should have been nominated for Supporting actor for "Brubaker."
A brilliant actor who left his legacy. Thank you!
Haha, wish I could have heard those kids come running up to him screaming Alien. How fun. Great story. RIP Parker. You were a total bad ass.
He did a brilliant brooding, comedic turn as Det.Alonzo Moseley too 😄 RIP Yaphet, you were a favourite actor of mine.
His performance is outstanding & it was such a turning point in so many ways as he brilliantly points out , strong black actor & a female survivor..
RIP Yaphet!
i will miss this great actor and man. RIP Yaphet.
I wish he had participated in the various blu ray/ DVD commentaries like most of the other cast and crew members did.
love yaphet! he has been part of my daily dialogue for 30 years!

This man has a big soul and a huge heart!!!! Yaphet your eyes shine a light!!!
Rest in peace, dear Dennis Parker... Over and out ❤️❤️

You were the man in Alien, RIP
Great Actor liked him in Across 110th Street!!
I go back further to Big Valley watching him on that series.
It's always fascinating seeing him pop up in other movies after first seeing him in his most famous role as Parker in Alien.
He is so unique and I was horrified seeing such a tough character get so easily subdued by that creature. It was so visceral.
He was so totally different in Live and Let Die and Alien. He also act with the way he spoke and also with body language.
@@PungiFungi that's so true!

Love him. Big and badass.👍
He's one of my favorite actors
RIP my friend. Hopefully there is a heaven.

Rest In Light Eternal FBI Agent Alonzo Mosely.
scott got just the right cast and everything, you can tell they all went 110% on their performance. it couldnt have gone better imo
Great actor watching him right now in Bruebaker alongside Robert Redford I'm glad he was a fellow New Yorker like.me. RIP 🙏
He should have bat least been nominated for best supporting actor in Brubaker
Love how he pivots to the importance of women rather than to himself or black people. All three counted, but his humility is virtuous.
A fucking Legend! I'm watching Blue Collar right now with Kotto, Kartel, and Pryor. Alien is a masterpiece. Yaphet has some bad ass stories I bet. Ha ha
Thank you so much for sharing this!

He was a class act
His character had all-and I do mean all-my favorite lines in the entire movie.
Love you Mr. Koto ❤
He was amazing in Midnight Run.
The amazing Yaphet Kotto. Essential part in 2 masterpieces of different genres and formats: Alien and Homicide:Life on the street.
Met him in Toronto, he is very casual.
RIP Yaphet 🙁❤
Legend
Rest in peace, Sir Kotto.
Parker - I'm not drawing any straws , I'm for killing that God dam thing right now !
Ripley - Will you listen to me parker ! SHUT UP !
That scene always makes me laugh.
You can just feel how wound up and afraid everyone is in that scene and Ripley has HAD it with people not listening to her.
Sidney Poitier and him were the key figures to opening the door that were closed to the majority of black actors at the time. He's such a legend
Love that man.
RIP Yaphet Kotto

Who else clicked expecting to hear what method alien used to open doors (in lore or on set)? 🤣
Yaphet got his solo name in the opening credits in "Alien", as well.
Great actor
God he was soo good in Alien. Memorable.
Liked him in Report to the Commissioner.
It was just on TCM!
Parker was my favorite character from Alien, Dallas was my second. Shame both men die on the movie.
The number of times I've said: "I just wanna go home an' party!" ...RIP Yk!! ❤
He was also great as Alonso Mosely in MIDNIGHT RUN with De Niro.
Easy... Alien opened doors with acid! RIP Mr. Kotto!
I'm Mosley!
He's a damn android! Best adr line in film history.
