Loved your video. Beautiful shots and lot of detailed information about Bardejov, Dukla and Tokaj. Thanks for sharing so much information about the history. You were actually right about the Slovak National Uprising (SNP), that it was Slovak and not Czechoslovakian, because it happened in Slovakia; in 1939-1945 Czechoslovakia didn't even exist, Slovakia was an independent country (puppet state of the nazi Germany) and, sadly, the Czech lands were occupied by the nazi Germany. After the WWII, the SNP led to the final forming of the Slovak nation. Today, the Slovak National Uprising is probably the greatest national holiday of Slovakia. You are right about the Slovak wines, even if they keep winning dozens of gold medals in international contests, we don't export lot of it, we drink most of it here in Slovakia. Oh, and you are from the UK? Fun fact: the Slovak wine Chateau Palugyay was served on the Titanic in the first class and the Klenver wine from Radošiná was served on the wedding of Queen Elisabeth II in 1947, during her coronation in 1953 and also at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Thanks so much for the kind words, and for the extra info on Dukla and Slovakia vs Czechoslovakia - the history of Slovakia is so full, interesting and intruding that we just can't get enough of it! We adored our time in your amazing nation and can't wait to come back someday - we just hope others follow in our footsteps and see more! (And what a great fact about the Slovak wine being served on the Titanic, and at various royal functions, we really struggle to get Slovak wine in the UK, and it was so delicious!)
Greetings Claire & Sam! I thoroughly enjoyed your well crafted tour video through Slovakia - 'Getting Your Kicks on Route 66'! Love the roadside country scenery as the backdrop to great historical content. You encounterd clouds and rain on the road through Slovakia, but much of Europe is experiencing drought; my cousins in Lithuania tell me about their weather and drought experiences every time we speak. In retrospect, tell us about the geography of rain / drought throughout your Baltic / Central European journey. Thanks and Cheers!!!
Thanks so much Gediminas! So glad you enjoyed our trip across Slovakia so far, there is another part coming soon too! To be honest it has been a very dry summer here in Europe, but now we are moving towards winter, the rains and snow are coming! Thanks for watching!
Superb.... just never realised how Incredible Slovakia was to see. Dukla Pass Memorial ... wow! How do you recall all this information 😮ℹ️ really interesting. Scary how many were un accounted for 😢 Thank you both for the tour 👍🚐🤩 Michelle and Andy
You guys are too kind, thanks for your support as always! The Dukla Pass was quite moving, and something we'd never really be taught about - so it was fascinating for us history buffs too. Oh and in terms of recalling at that info... we had to have four goes at recording that section... ha ha! x
Hi guys! i discovered you a couple of days ago and already I'm halfway through your vlogs! really enjoyable to watch and wow Slovakia looks amazing... a cert for the to do list! Thank you for sharing your experiences on youtube. I also think your presentation of the vlogs are 1st class and very professional. Hopefully you will be able to do more of the same in 2021 🙏
hi, great trip, when you was in Dukla Pass not far from there in Medzilaborce is Andy´s Warhol museum. The only one museum in Europe. His parents emigrate to the USA. Also in Bachledka resort you can walk in trees, or not far from there is Stara lubovna castle or Kezmarok. And levoca is another unesco town with highiest wooden altar in the world. enjoy Slovakia.
If you ever are near Bardejov it is well worth a visit, as is the nearby Bardejovské Kúpele, the Bardejov Spa, it is a beautiful area, has some interesting spa waters to drink and historically its interesting as Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria went there for its healing properties in 1895, and the history of the Spa can be traced back to 1247.
Excellent history lesson again guys! We even had the in-laws sitting down to watch UA-cam!!! Ha ha. Hope you’re staying safe and we’re looking forward to what’s next! - Chris & Suzannah
Thanks as always Anne, it was a pretty beautiful place - unfortunately we couldn't film our wine tasting as the vineyard wasn't keen, but safe to say, it was amazing!
You two are such fun to watch. Can’t wait for the next video. (I would love for you to do a video on how to find parking when visiting these historic towns and villages. I’d like to drive on my next trip to Europe, but the fear of restricted parking and language difficulties scares me. Maybe others feel the same.) Much love from the States!
Thanks Todd! We really appreciate it - to be honest we mainly use an app called 'park4night' - which gives parking locations compiled by other motorhome users - this tells us what car parks we'd fit in and are friendly towards travellers like us! Oh and language is nothing to be scared of, it makes the experience even more fun!
Hi :) I do know that your videos is not made a few days ago, bacause of your safety. But approximately when is this video been recorded ? I know that the weather have been warm this autumn, but i can still see flowers and you are both wearing t-shirts. I hope you are both in a safe place, 'cause more and more borders is being closed 'caused the Covid again.
Hi! This video was made approximately 4 weeks ago. With us travelling around and editing it takes that long to publish our vids. Thanks for your concern, we are fine and respecting local Covid restrictions where we are.
Loved the video, my grandfather emigrated from Bardejov, to the U.S. in 1904. Wonderful to finally see the town. Thank you so much.
