As you can see the plants have rooted successfully into the substrate. The moss has also continued to grow. Algae has also spread over some of the glass and rocks.
The Nymphs and Larvae seem to be doing well. I have noticed a decline in their numbers though, which I believe to be down to the Amphipods.
I've never been happier to have a health update on a group of amphipods, glad they're doing well.
I watch this stuff to fall asleep, not that it's boring but that it is calming.
Samee i also watch these videos to fall asleep
They strangely appear in my recomended nowadays whenever I'm tired and need some peace, it's kinda spooky, but I greatly appreciate it
Me too 👀
How do you fall asleep with YT?
Do you use bluetooth earbuds?
Doesn' YT just keep playing videos?
What happens?
@@MrNight-dg1ug sometimes, when a really long video is playing it'll stop with a message, like ''are you watching yet?'' you don't need to answer, just with that is enough to stop the video until you wake up.
Now I'm curious, why so many questions?
Quick question : do they live with artificial light ? If so, do you cut it when it’s night, or are they always in light ? I just discovered you, and I would like to do the same thing, I want to study nature
+1
Good question I now agree with everything you said
same amount as day time light works for me
Krezmick okay, thanks for your response :)
Yeah if you can keep your light as accurate as the normal day night cycle. You’ll be set. All life on earth follows that cyclical rhythm.
Just found your channel and my inner-nerd is obsessed with these now... fascinating stuff. thank you!
also I am curious what kind of camera you use for such amazing close ups?!
@@alexfitch2656 same
You should put a stick or water reed in the aquarium that emerges above the water level so that when the fly larvae are ready to emerge, they have something to climb out of and dry off on in the jar.
The forbidden soda
Wtf
dafuq matee
With little bit crunchy from little parasite
Nooo
Brain: drink it
Me: why?
Brain: you gotta
This channel is something I can see myself pouring hours of my time into watching to be honest.
Dr. Bright! You're alive!?
Mr. Night Supposedly.
I love the background music it is so soothing!
I love listening to it on a subtle rainy day with low rumbling thunder, around 230, 3PM, dead afternoon, quiet, no movement.
so soothing, it made me fall asleep
@@acardenasjr1340 what's it called if you don't mind me asking?

!! so glad to see the parasites off the shrimp :>> i could see their discomfort previously they seem much more content now
This is magical! The music is so relaxing and beautiful. You take me into another world and it’s a fantastic experience.Thank you!
So I just found your channel in my recommended feed and I'm glad I watched that video. This is very calming and soothing and for some reason makes me happy. Thank you
The eye on the Gammarus Plurex at 4:31 is so striking, what a fantastic looking eye!
You saved their lives from that parasite.
You are a kind god.

Parasite lives matter
Not so kind for the parasites tho

Quite interesting to see how the organisms have adapted to beeing take out of the stream. I would like to hear your thoughts on their adaptation. You mentioned a bit of it with the filter feeder parasites, have you noticed any change in any other organisms or do they seem okay to be on standing water now?
Great idea and great videos btw!
TFW you inadvertently heal some amphipods.
Thanks for the video. Grammar pet peeve: the possessive form of it is its, no apostrophe. So "its shell", "its casing", etc. "it's" is only used for the contraction "it is". But still, thank you for doing this! Great footage!
how are you able to get close ups on the really small creatures like the flat worms? Do you use a microscope to find them?
wow, i was disappointed you didn’t explain the parasite more in the first video. that’s amazing that it cleared up, those lil dudes probably feel 100% better
What is the longevity on something like this? Are you releasing the macro invertebrates once they finish their instars and pupate?
I used to do this type of thing as a kid much to my parents dismay for some reason. I'm an adult now, and watching these videos really makes me want to do this type of thing again. There is just a beauty to looking inside a glass jar full of water and critters living in there.
Question, do you leave the ecosphere lit 24/7 or do you turn the light(s) out at night?
Sunlight. For video recording it put on the light
Hey man, just went and bought a glass jar and made my own ecosphere on my day off. It was one of these, right from the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee... I’ve seen one thing already... it’s SOOOO tiny looks like a micro spider almost with red on it? Thanks man.
What a strange thing. Wish you success 😊
Thanks! same to you :)
This is beautiful nature, lil micro organisms in there habitat in a jar amazing, every little life in there has feelings&heart so beautiful how they survive in there.so many years.🦐🐌🦎🐚💓.
This is one of the most calming channels I know -w-
I would like to make one for myself and I am wondering, are you adding the creatures by yourself?Do you have any advice for a beginner?
do you ever open the jar? im curious as i made one just today
I'd put this on loop just for the background music
So does all ecospheres require a source of light, and if so does it have to be constant or does the natural light from outside work just as well?
Light is required because the ecosystem needs a source of energy to survive. Although matter is recycled in the jar, energy is consumed and converted to waste heat, which leaves the jar. Like an engine, the ecosystem requires energy to run.
Natural light would work, I believe, but the problem is that you might overheat the jar. If you set it up on a day with a low amount of sun and some days later the sun is much brighter, it may shine too much light on the jar. Since the ecosystem is closed, it has no way to regulate its temperature, so the whole thing will die of overheating.
Similarly, the jar may not take well to seasonal changes in sunlight. I still think it could work, but you'd have to be careful.
I'm glad I found your channel 😎. Now I don't have to go anywhere for my "nature walks" as someone once called my zoning out on amazing cool stuff 😅
I love seeing the stonefly nymph chomping on the algae he's like OM NOM NOM
Very interesting stuff here. I just found your channel and subscribed immediately! I was wondering whether creating such ecosphete could be used to experiment with changing the conditions (e.g. temperature) and seeing how the entire ecosphere would adapt and how fast.
i imagine the stream water being very cold. do you think it would be a good idea too put the jar in a cool space, or even cool it? or is that not necessary? glad to see the amphipods doing well!
I would love to see a video of how you store all your ecojars
Something about this is satisfying, fascinating, and peaceful.
I really enjoy watching your videos keep the updates coming!
Can you share what camera and lenses you're using. Your macro shots are amazing!
These videos are so good put together, well done 👍 and keep them coming
Do you keep the lid closed I assume. Do you ever turn the lights off?
What type of lighting do these terrariums need? I’m thinking of making one myself since it seems simple enough. But keeping the ecosystem alive sounds much harder.
It's an ecosystem; You just let it be.
Simulate and outside world with lighting, and that's all.
@@MrNight-dg1ug can you just put it up against the Window then? Instead of having a light
Do you leave some space at the top of the eco-jar? Or fill it all the way with water. Might try this
I leave an air pocket at the top.
Magnificent! Peace! Love all of your ecospheres
Thanks so much for this wonderful idea! I’m going to do this with my boys!
Are you still keeping them in a jar?
Very cool! I love to see how they change over time. I am going to start making my own and see how they turn out. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
What wattage of light is the bulb you use in the lamps above the ecosystem?
Do you view them up close with your phone or something else?
Are you going to let the mayfly go and the other nymph when the time is right i think jts the decent thing to do
already did. this is an old video.
@@Jartopia kind of you pal
@@Jartopia sorry i see now this was reccomended to me i stupidly thought it was new
@@Jartopia did you film it if so link?:)
Great upload. Nice music. I think the Star Trek TNG theme would work well too....Just a suggestion , lol
I'm going to do this tomorrow if I can buy please could someone tell me is it just luck to get insects in there or do you need to try and catch something ? Also dose it need to be filled right to the top, like no air at all or can there be some air ? This looks amazing and I'd love to do it properly and get something in it. Thanks
So are all those closed eco systems going without oxigen?
What kind of camera do you use?
Great video, great content.
Incredible video! May I ask you what did you use to film this? The quality is amazing!
Could this be placed in a windowsill instead of under a light?
Everyone of these video's would fit nicely in a biology lesson/course in school.
do the larva stay larva or do the grow and then drown?
It was let go per comment below by owner.
God dam this song slaps
i was hoping on seeing damselfly nymphs, still a great video
Love the vids, source for background music?
is super relaxing i ned to know it too
Just curious on how the mayflies, caddisflies and stoneflies will be handled upon reaching adulthood
Wouldnt the water become stagnant after that long period of time?
These are amazing
How do you get video like this so close?
Good camera?
How did you get rid of the parasites?
This came from a flowing stream and now the water is still. How does this effect the living organisms?
I heard from the first video that only a few species need the flowing water to survive. And these species were most likely picked from a still section of the stream.
I just caught myself in my phones reflection smelling. Lol
Nineteen captive Stonefly Nymphs disliked this video.
This is so awesome and interesting can't wait to try and make one!
Do you have ig?
So fascinating
How do these creatures get inside the jar?
Great music choice!
I need to try this, got a river 2 minutes away and a couple of ponds aswell to get stuff from
when an amphipod rolled up, i suddenly thought of the pokemon, whirlipede
With out letting the Co2 out how do they survive?
What kind of camera do you use? It’s amazing ❤️👌🏽
I also want to have my own jartopia as i am an aspiring biologist :< do you always leave the lights on? Do you put food or anything down there or let them go through their course? What if for example you forgot to turn on the lights or something? Does the system collapse then?
Do you put it in the sunlight?
What if you add sunlight by reflecting towards the terrarium and create a night and day scenario?🤔🤔🤨🤨
Doesn't it go stagnant because it's not flowing?
Absolutely fantastic video! Loved it, and it's so interesting. Thank you.
Also why do you choose a lamp as opposed to sunlight?
From another comment on here.. Basically a lamp provides a consistent light source. Sunlight is more variable.. Ie sunny day, cloudy day, hot day etc... The terrarium can't regulate its own heat so having a consistent light source will give it the best chance of survival.
@@Philbyyyy thanks! How does a natural terrarium regulate its own heat in the way that the jar terrarium cannot? Does it have to do with water current temperature?
Do you ever turn off the light
How does the animals get in there
Bonjour vous laissez le bocal fermer ?
Great videos!
Do these jars have to be airtight?
Ecospheres need to be airtight. Terrariums and Jarrariums don't.
@@Jartopia Thank you
I swear i heard ominous sirens underneath the calming music
Reminds me of our humble beginnings.
İs it possible make this from an crater lake
I’m not entirely sure if they were parasites especially if they were filter feeders. To be classified as a parasite they would have to be harming the organisms they were attached to. It’s entirely possible for them to be epizoic meaning they were attached to the exterior non parasitically
Banana Milk answered above already. It was covering their mouths and stealing food.
Stonefly Nymph be like: E A T
Parasite has left the server. :(
Where is the parasite?
Me:
Mmm yummy shrimp
Legend has it he fills all of his water
the stonefly has turned into a mayfly
u updated on my bdayyy
I love it
Correction: That colony is not a parasite. Parasites have a negative effect on their host, this one doesn't. It's called commensalism.
The reason I call it a parasite is because it was covering the amphipod's mouth, therefore they were stealing food from it and giving nothing in return.
@@Jartopia Oh. In that case it is a parasite
Thank god the amphipods are okay
Very nice project. I really like to try it too ! Just to say, the first insect is not a stonefly larva but an other mayfly larva (maybe Baetidae or something like that). Abdominal gills are présent. The second one is a Heptageniidae. The first microorganism seen on the glass (1:18) seems to be a gastrotrich. Regards.
Que genial 😍
