Apparently you have never heard Shirley Verrett or Maria Callas in this role. They owned this role. Poor Anna. The singing is just okay. The voice is too heavy, not agile, not what Verdi wanted in his soprano. Why is the world so obsessed with this woman.

Ugly but with a perfect technique. So Callas and Zampieri fit perfectly. Netrebko doesn´t have the coloraturas and lacks agility. And that must be the reason why this aria is conducted extremely slow.

Gergiev's ego led him to believe he could take a quite fine natural voice and transform it into the "new" [as if this could ever be] Callas. She was young and seduced [musically] by his vision. She has worked hard on her voice, her acting, her technical mastery. If Gergiev had not pushed her into a spotlight and then abandoned her we would not see so many fools attacking her. Yes, she does not always fully meet the demands of the role but she never simply mails in a performance the way some sopranos [Fleming, e.g.] seem to do. I have been attending opera on 4 continents for over 50 years and have heard almost every soprano of the "great group" [yes, even Callas] live. At her best and with good directing and conducting Netrebko meets the standard of that group, particularly in Russian opera. Stop faulting her for what she is not and try to appreciate her for what she is.
Why is it that some people will only acknowledge a singer if she can sing a high Eb. Anna has changed her repertoire to suit her changing voice. She is coping with the more dramatic Verdi roles quite well and in Macbeth she does not need to produce an Eb. I have just watched her Il Trovatore in Salzburg, and she is getting stronger and better with every performance.
Amazing singing: secure, powerful, accurate and intense. She also doesn't seem to be forcing her voice, but totally comfortable with the lines from a very blooming top to a very solid low register, and the middle voice sounds just as beautiful as ever, but now darker and with more colors. And to think this is only her first Lady Macbeth live!
To have such a grandiose presentation, the actual performances are trivial things. A problem with the same old same old in anything is that so many people have recorded this material, even the once rarely encountered Lady Macbeth arias, that it’s easy to find better, in great sound, at a discount! There is a difference between someone who is not that bad and what true stars were once expected to deliver.
Seems like a very natural progression for her voice she was always a bit too thick in sound for the belcanto rep and she did not have the flexibility. I am surprised she wanted to still pursue coloratura singing. It doesn't seem natural to her BUT she a very interesting singer, a hard worker and a wonderful performer! Why be a hater? She has done nothing to warrant that kind of attention. We should be thrilled with her, Kaufmann and others not pulling them down. Opera is dying a slow death and it will go even quicker if it doesn't get an infusion of positive reinforcement! We will never return the the 50s, 60s and 70s!

Además si tuvieron que cortarte más de la mitad de la cabaletta para que las fuerzas te alcanzaran hasta el final, entonces no te imagino cantando cabalmente el rol completo. Aquí se te ve cambiando el punto de la emisión pretendiendo ser una dramática, pero pierdes el brillo y el metal de tu voz. La voz se escucha gutural en los graves y con demasiado aire. Y que pasó con la agilidad que exige ese difícil rol? Todo indica que estas en "labores de parto". Se más inteligente querida y no pretendas cantar de todo.

I like her, but not in lady Macbeth. She simply doesn't have the type of voice for this role. She should stick to lyrical roles rather than pushing her voice to sing heavier ones.
Is she pregnant again? Why is she costumed so unflatteringly? I understand that she is singing these roles now because she no longer can even sing a high Dflat but maybe Desdemona or Elizabeth de Valois would suit her limited vocal capabilities now. This was just awful.

Rimango della mia opinione, nonostante il successo in Germania e in USA, dove non ne capiscono granchè di opera italiana. In altri ruoli verdiani poterebbe anche raggiungere buoni risultati ma non come Lady, dove altre hanno raggiunto vertici artisti insuperabili, vedi Callas e Verrett.
What I love about her is that she never cheats. She takes risks , she attacks the phrases head on. She is totally physically engaged.

Es una burla que cantantes tan limitados se atrevan a cantar estos roles, está mujer no tiene la técnica adecuada, para este papel ni para mucho de lo que canta. Min 4:25 WTF!!! Jamás pagaría por ver algo como esto
non capisco le scelte del regista, la lettera dov'è? E perché ride su "sir di caudore"? poi le crome prima del vieni t'affretta troppo veloci, e i cambi di armonia precedenti in ritardo da parte dell'orchestra. Forse frutto di prove troppo frettolose. Purtroppo in Verdi il confine tra tragico e comico è sottilissimo, se non si è attenti si perde tutta la drammaticità dell'opera.

Terribly bad
I like her, but not in lady Macbeth. She simply doesn't have the type of voice for this role. She should stick to lyrical roles rather than pushing her voice to sing heavier ones.

Is she pregnant again? Why is she costumed so unflatteringly? I understand that she is singing these roles now because she no longer can even sing a high Dflat but maybe Desdemona or Elizabeth de Valois would suit her limited vocal capabilities now. This was just awful.
Grande la Netrebko alla Scala in Giovanna d'Arco ma del tutto inadatta in questo ruolo che intelligentemente credo abbia abbandonato. Come ha abbandonato l'idea di cantare Norma a Londra. Brava e intelligente Anna che capisce quali ruoli scegliere per essere oggi la prima1 Qua è penosa e sembra una satira della Lady!
Anna è tornata a cantare la Lady a Monaco in questi giorni. Il successo tedesco e newyorkese di due anni fa l'hanno di certo convinta a riproporre il ruolo e nei prossimi mesi altre eroine verdiane l'aspettano
Rimango della mia opinione, nonostante il successo in Germania e in USA, dove non ne capiscono granchè di opera italiana. In altri ruoli verdiani poterebbe anche raggiungere buoni risultati ma non come Lady, dove altre hanno raggiunto vertici artisti insuperabili, vedi Callas e Verrett.
