This ad came out a month ago, the scandal also came out a month ago. I think it’s unfair to drag Harry with context that was not available during the shoot. To say he’s related to an issue which we have not seen him actively participate in prior to the shoot is extremely harsh in my opinion. Without any context the campaign fulfilled its brief which would not have been problematic without the scandal.

While I don’t think this campaign is nearly as sinister as the Balenciaga campaign, I also think it was no coincidence. I believe this is Kering’s (owner of Balenciaga AND Gucci) way of power playing. This ad came out a month ago, the scandal also came out a month ago. I think it’s unfair to drag Harry with context that was not available during the shoot. To say he’s related to an issue which we have not seen him actively participate in prior to the shoot is extremely harsh in my opinion. Without any context the campaign fulfilled its brief which would not have been problematic without the scandal.

This may have been taken before, but It's child-like themed... it doesn't look right. My innocence was stripped away ages 4-6 so it's difficult for me not to see the hints in some of these photo shoots. I mean, why is he carrying a bed way too small for himself and undressing with teddy bears around?

While I don’t think this campaign is nearly as sinister as the Balenciaga campaign, I also think it was no coincidence. I believe this is Kering’s (owner of Balenciaga AND Gucci) way of power playing. They’re basically saying “we can do whatever the f**k we want, and not get cancelled.” They have been doing this same predatory shit for years, right under our noses.
It's pretty weird. I feel like, sure it may seem like a stretch but you've gotta ask WHY are these high fashion brands trying to incorporate childish things into their photos?
Gucci & Balenciaga are owned by the same company. Balenciaga's campaign with kids was more extreme with the BDSM teddy bears and whatnot and it became controversial VERY fast. So now it seems like (to me) Kering decided to dial it back a bit for Gucci's drop, bring in Harry Styles (I would even say infantilize his look) and instead of HS holding a teddy bear, it's on his shirt. And the toddler mattress....? so weird. is it to try and emphasize that HS is supposed to be a child or child-like in this shoot? I dunno, it's just weird IMO. I am awful at verbalizing my thoughts, but I just feel there's a lot of similarities to the two photos but the one is much more subtle and no child in it.
(eta: I think "infantilize his look" isn't correct, but i hope people understand what I'm trying to say lol)

This campaign is definitely much more subtle than the Balenciaga one, but it's still gross. There's so many other things they could have used instead of a toddler mattress, but they chose that purposely. Imo this campaign may be worse, hear me out, because this one actually has a ton of people who think it's okay and are defending it... so the societal grooming is working. Am I the only one who's not getting it??? What does a child mattress have to do with inappropriateness? It could be a representation of childhood dreams - the comfort that we still seek as adults from our past in childhood. There are no children in the campaign and nothing inappropriate presented with children. It's not just about Gucci, this is the creation of an artist and imagine that artist didn't even have the slightest ill intentions or inappropriateness in mind and was just creating a piece about childhood memories that live within us as adults and now everyone is turning it into this disgusting thing. The artist might have been victim for all we know and we are traumatizing this person by making all these inferences which might have absolutely nothing to do with what we are inferring. The Balenciaga campaign was pretty clear but there is so much room for interpretation in this campaign.

I think Gucci tried to sell us the "Adult, still being a kid at heart" the WRONG way. They already damaged Balenciaga and they think they can save it by putting HS in their commercial, because he has so many fans.
