This video just shows that growing a small bonsai doesn't mean less work. Nice to see how this supermarket bonsai is improving every year. Looking forward to the refinement root work.
I thought the videos was great before but, now they're even more amazing. Like watching in hd. The back drop is soooo clean. Nice job Nigel. Elevated muchly. You should be very proud of yourself. My fave UA-cam channel 💚
I bought a ginseng ficus when I was just getting into bonsai. I thought it was an "instant" bonsai. It took a while for me to realize what a mistake that was, and I have followed your work on this one to figure out how to shape mine. Thanks for the update!
Missed the live stream - too early for me yesterday. Luckily I caught part 2 today. 😁 Awesome work as always Nigel. Thanks for your generosity & support - you are a blessing to the bonsai community1
I must say you did a great job turning this Ginseng Ficus into a actual Bonsai, that carving was really clever. I think it's a shame how this type of tree is misold as a Bonsai Tree, but I've always said that it can be turned into one on the right hands, and now you proved it. Congrats my friend. =]
The tree looks much more airy now, more like a tree than a shrub. I like it! The pot has endured well, considering it was 3D printed, I shall have to think on making pots myself - or ask a friend with a printer! 'Til tomorrow!
@@TheBonsaiZone I also would like to ask some one to print this pot for me (I love it). Is it possible to download the file and the info about the plastic you used somwhere?
Would it be possible to mention at the start of each video the approximate age of the tree and how long you’ve had it? I believe it’s a common question of your viewers. Thanks, keep growing.
I remember you carving those giant ginseng roots! They’ve healed up so well. I’ve dodged the issue with mine by burying its bulbous roots, but I think I’ll try pruning them off having watched your root pruning videos. Maybe not all at once though!
I've said it before and I'll probably say it again. Sometimes I watch your videos and think that you've just done a magic trick. There are some ginseng ficus microcarpa at one of the markets I go to.... Maybe I should pick one up...
It seems that the smaller trees takes longer to work on. I found the same thing as I started to work on my trees. I thought I was doing something wrong or being too picky lol
I just don't use it, I prefer to strike a balance between the natural growth of the tree and my vision of the tree. I feel most wired trees loose the natural character and become very artificial looking. Not all, but many. I also dislike the spiral wire marks that you see on almost every tree these days.
Unfortunately as a photographer I can't use this trick to find faults in the tree that give the size away. I notice the photography that gives it away like to focal length/ depth of feild and the light play ect. Its a great idea though.

Yes, i was surprised how long it took to work on this small tree, almost the whole day!!
@@TheBonsaiZone I imagined that's why you decided to move the root work to part 2.
@@OddBonsai Yes, I never imagined part 1 would be 39 min. long!
The greenhouse is an amazing studio. Fantastic lighting. Looks really good, like the last video.
I'm loving it out there, it's like a time machine, you enter in the morning and when you leave it's getting dark!!!

@@TheBonsaiZone I am looking forward to getting a time machine of my own some day =)

Glad you caught part 2 Jay, it's always great to have you in the chat!
Hi Nigel, I am so happy your channel is back. I was very sad and worried about you, when it disappeared!
Excellent Tutorial on pruning. Super!
Thanks Tom, part 2 coming soon!
small bonsai with old character. 👌👌

This tree interesting with it's progress. There is a lot to overcome!

This pot was made with ColorFab Ngen, the regular PLA only lasts about 4 years. Thanks Aija!!

Thanks Matt, good idea!
What a great looking plant.
Thanks!!!
The black background is really doing wonders for your video!
Thanks Yurup!!

Nice looking tree for a grafted type.
On this one, the grafted part died off and now the new branches are from the root base!

Thanks Urouro! Cutting the large roots off is the hard part!!!
Lovely 💎❤🍃 (Aha, I concerned about hairstylist😊)
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome😍
It looks the same as his own hair, cool.
looks like the bed of chaos from darksouls1, i love it
Thanks Shiva!
Can’t wait to see part 2, Nigel. Do all microcarpas develop such big roots?
They can get them, but with regular root pruning, they can be kept under control!
@@TheBonsaiZone now I see the importance of root pruning. 😃
U need to grow a bit of more trunk and then canopy on it! So that it will serve the purpose
Thanks!!
Good evening can you remove all the leafs off a ficus microcarpa
Yes, if the plant is healthy and has had a period of good growth.
It seems that the smaller trees takes longer to work on. I found the same thing as I started to work on my trees. I thought I was doing something wrong or being too picky lol
I worked on this small tree from the morning right to dusk! It seemed like just an hour in my greenhouse time machine!
@@TheBonsaiZone Next in the Bonsai Zone, greenhouse time machine! haha
@@TheBonsaiZone 😂 better than a hot tub!
Nigel can u do a video about podocarpus macrophyllus? And how to prune pinch it.
Yes, eventually, I have one that needs prunning!
I don't see you use wire to bring the trees in shape. Is this a special philosophical approach to bonsai.
It is the original way of doing bonsai. Wiring was added to the art around early 20th century

I hate ginseng ficus they almost always are very ugly. But I love what you did with that one, its awesome!!
Thanks Arnaldo!!
👍🍎
Ha! Escape root!
Ficus roots are amazing, they will find moisture everywhere!
Where do you get those 3D printed pots
I think it's from seed..
Hello!!
Hello HD!
Please, make bonsai which looks like groot
That would be cool!!

Very close Denise!!
