True, I think he means it's not solely a matter of mindset, he also mentioned the fact that Black Americans were redlined by banks in the United States. This is a very important point that shouldn't be overlooked. There's an interview where Muhammad Ali talks about how, after winning the gold medal in the Olympics, he wanted to go eat but was refused service at a burger spot in Louisville, Kentucky, because he was Black. However, there was a group of Africans wearing their traditional garments who were let in because they were not considered black but rather African. This example illustrates that Black Americans were not always treated the same as Black immigrants. My mom is from Louisville and she tells me stories about during Jim Crow's era like that all of the time. That burger spot is still there after all of these years of rejecting black Americans in the area, by the way.

Sneako is right, its all about the mindset. These immigrants who see an opportunity or a chance take it and they fucking run wild with it, meanwhile Americans (of all race) have given up thinking its just too hard. That's what conservatives have been saying all along. That's the beauty of the free market. You may think capitalism is cold, but it sets up innovation and doesn't care about demographics. It's an amoral system. It can only reflect the individual character of the user. 🤷🏾‍♀️

When there is only one kid who is highly driven in a family that has no drive at all often gets dragged down with the rest of them. it's a mind set is a part of it but if the family you come from does not have that mind set you r more likely to fail. Highly driven is a mind set, it's a culture, it's a life style, it's habits that you form, it's discipline, its the people you surround yourself with. Changin g your mind set alone does not equal highly driven.

Black Americans such as myself do not get enough credit for making it through hard times growing up in the hood. Many of us are educated and have never lived on public assistance in our adult lives. I graduated from high school at sixteen years old and was the first in my family to complete a 4-year university degree. I've done 8 years in the Army, and have been on my job for 15 plus years. I was the first to own a home and have been married to my husband for nearly 15 years. I came from a two-parent toxic household. Getting away from that environment and wanting better was my drive to have what I have today. I am able to give my two children a healthier family life balance than that of what I had. However, many of my fellow Americans don't believe in a higher education to get a good job, and I agree to a certain extent because there are many trade schools to pick from, but as for myself, going away to college and serving my country has opened up many doors of networking and employment opportunities.

A lot of those kids where very educated and had a very strong work ethic because they grew up privileged and also seen some of the worlds worst poverty. They're families back home where usually rich government officials or successful businessmen and sent them off to america to get educated. Out of desperation to not fail there families and not have the same fate as there lower classes, they work there asses off. They always tell me stories about how they lived in luxury and was highly respected. They also told me stories that just a few blocks away they'll see beggars, starvation, poor housing. It's like a constant reminder not to fail and keep there wealth by any means. Those kids had way more pressure on them because there families back home was relying on their success. The same can be said about a lot of asian immigrants as well. They were some the brightest kids i've ever seen.

My dad and mom were college educated in the 70s/80s, my dad worked for shell and my mum worked for a big international conglomerate. My mum was on first name basis with the mayor and senator. I called colonels , generals my uncles. My parent paid for our education our entire lives,no problem but six kids. Never missing a payment in Africa that’s not normal. We owned a fuck ton of land. Ofc we weren’t like super rich but we were definitely not ur average family, never realised that until I went back to Africa when I was older and saw the privilege I came from. And many of the other people I met in this country of African decent had similar stories. We would joke about living in terraces in the uk and living in our mansions in Africa like it was a common thing. Ofc am not saying everyone is like dat but I never really met another African that truly came from the dirt in Africa.

As a second-generation Nigerian immigrant, what he is saying is right but also wrong in some ways. He said they might as well be white, which is a little racist as he is basically saying that African Americans are lazy and have terrible families, but I come from a family that was extremely wealthy in Nigeria, and we have a lot of connections to the point where my parents didn’t even want to move to America and planned to be there for a short time but just decided to stay and become citizens. A lot of African immigrants who came to America are wealthy in Africa in some way, as those who aren’t wouldn’t have the resources to get to America and may immigrate to a country illegally that isn't as hard to illegally do as Greece, which was a popular spot around the time my parents moved to America. Now it’s obviously not impossible to get to America from Africa if you are poor, but you basically have to be so lucky that winning the lottery for millions is more likely, and it will likely never be illegal as that is almost impossible to do. The only reason Africans left is because of the wars and terrible governments that are plaguing Africa, and they don’t want to raise their children in those environments. Immigrant parents are naturally pretty demanding of their children for them to be successful, but Africans just want to see results and success. Having African parents sort of forces you to be successful in the way we are raised... I have never heard someone say that we are closer to white people, though. Anyway, I hope you guys are a little less ignorant now.

that part ! him comparing us to white people really annoyed me. and you’re the first one i see talking about it 🙌🏽 i wanted to add my grain of salt but it’s important to remember that the conversation is centered around the us. as an afro-european who lives in a socialist country, my experience is different.
a country that people seem to bring up a lot is nigeria (even though africa is diverse lol). people need to know that there is a immigration pattern. colonization is a factor to many african diasporas. people tend to immigrate to their ex colonizer. that would be the uk for nigerians, france for senegalese people etc. but yeah the typical destinations are western europe or america. as u said people who tend to migrate to the us are generally well off (according to the living standards of their respective country) but it’s not always the case. plus many people are tempted by the « american dream » or they see the west as an opportunity to succeed in life!
anyways the comparison to whites was kinda brave. im assuming he is referring to demographical stats but still.. he’s just generalizing. i still think that yt ppl are the most privileged in the western society, BUT not every white person is wealthy.. this conversation is all based on generalizing anyway
