- A look at the Canon Canonet QL17 GIII compact rangefinder camera with a fixed 40mm f/1.7 lens.
I didn't show the self timer function (which is around the lens) as it doesn't work on my camera!

Dearly thank you for taking me half-century back to those ole GOOD days... When you turned that flash on and I heard that sound of flashes' filling capacitor, I was almost to cry!!!!
You have a pristine camera and accessories and hope you still own them all, as I don't think anyone could do them justice, so well as you have done to this wonderful rangefinder.

I've never seen a black Canonet in such good shape in a video, I'm so jealous! Did you get it on Ebay? I watched this last night, and got thinking about how annoyed I am that my (silver) Canonet is broken, so I went out and bought a new one off a FB group.
Andrew S It was off EBay from a seller in France! I've had a couple of silver ones but I always wanted a nice black one. This one is nearly mint, but it suffers from a "lazy" self timer.
Ah yes, I have a Nikon SLR with a lazy-sounding self timer, it starts off okay but then sounds really pitiful for the last 7 seconds, although it keeps a very strict 10 seconds at least. But yes, it sounds so weak and sad.

Hello I bought one off of Ebay and I can't quite get the lightmeter to work. Also I just noticed mine is different. on the back I don't have that battery check light thing on mine what does it mean?
SKYLVRK Make sure you have the red A on the inner ring of the lens set to the central mark, otherwise the meter will not function. The battery check was a feature of the G series of cameras, so if yours doesn't have this marking it won't have it!

David Eades You can use a alkaline PX625 1.5v battery and adjust the ASA speed setting to compensate, or buy a voltage reducing adapter (look for PX625 adapter).

@@Samsung9alaxy Using an alkaline battery with ASA adjustment is not particularly accurate metering. It will do in a pinch for Color negative film. You can also use the Wein cells, which approximate the voltage of the old mercury cells, but has a short life.My personal battery solution is a bit more complex, as I install as voltage dropping diode in the camera battery circuit (making it like the voltage reducing adapter you mention), then use a silver oxide 1.5 volt battery. Will also work with the alkaline battery if that's what is available.
I use P675 1.4v zinc air batteries. What should i compensate at for 400 ASA? Thanks.
The slight difference in voltage will make the meter more sensitive, so you might want to increase exposure by 1/3rd to 1/4 stop if using colour film. ( so set the ASA to around 320)
I always thought g3 meant generation 3. It is the 3 gen.

I believe these numbers are flash guide numbers so you can attach a flash and it should set the aperture according the focus distance

I don t have the direction for my camera, so i need to know why the 1/30th of a second, is BLUE ?
I no longer have the instructions or the manual. It may be the shutter speed required when using a flash.
Two reasons, in general, to paint a shutter speed differently from the rest, on those days' cameras: (I'm pretty sure yours is the first one)
1- Its the highest speed you can use when shooting with a flash or otherwise a part of your picture field would be covered by the shutter's curtain, thus remaining unexposed and seen as a black field on part of the final printed image. Shooting with lower speed than the colored speed was OK, within the limitation of motion blur acceptance.
2- On some of more modern for the day cameras, when they had incorporated an electrical shutter (Big WOw for the day) the good manufacturer would still keep one single shutter speed as "Mechanical" so even if the battery was dead, photographer (Who were a lot smarter as the unqualified but carrying the same title these days) could use the Golden rule of 16 or likewise, adjust the F stop at an educational guess and still take the picture. Till hopefully, he gets a new battery installed, thus be able to shoot at other speeds...

@@samsen3965 Both good guesses for other types of cameras, but neither apply to this one. A flash will operated at all shutter speeds. All speeds are mechanical. The battery only operates the light meter, and the camera will run fine with or without a proper battery. Do not know why 1/30th is marked in blue, but the guess that it indicates the slowest speed for sharp hand-held images is as good as any. Or, it may be a speed setting reminder when using the dedicated flash, Canolite D, which ties the light output to the focus, and early form of auto-flash exposure. If important to you, check the manual.
