I am so glad that you showed these problems as they are what I have had!! I am new to spinning. My Ashford Traditional wheel only cost me £25 but the treadle kept coming off so I have made a 'fix'. It can spin without problems but then if I change the bobbin it will not spin properly. Often refitting the bobbin is the solution. Watching this I realised that I need to oil it more often but probably don't need to get another wheel.

LOL. (the How NOT to PLY video you didn't know you needed!) Bless your heart... ♥ *I was hoping for a refresher on NEATLY rejoining a broken ply. Problems actually covered: Brake band dangling off flyer; treadle wrong way; Squeak from hell (needs oil?) and other tension issues; wobbly wheel/slippery floor; forgot to move along hooks for even bobbin; pro vs con of On Board Lazy Kate (DON'T use them except for storage - IMHO - too close!) AND twisted OVER TWISTED demo. ♥ Good luck with whatever problem brings you here!

I have an Ashford Traditional wheel and a walking wheel for spinning and an original Leclerc with a giant bobbin for plying. The walking wheel is great for controlling the amount of twist in the singles so I can get a good consistent two ply yarn on the Leclerc wheel.

Thanks for showing us the problems that can happen along the way with plying! You never see that in videos, so you tend to think that it should all go smoothly and be easy from the start! One question that I have though-I have smaller bobbins so they fill up quickly. How do I make a continuous skein of say 200 yards? I just don’t get that part😬

to do a really large skein you need to be able to start on a jumbo bobbin. I suppose if push came to shove you could probably join the yarn using a spindle, but I've never tried it myself just because I have the jumbo bobbins

I really do appreciate your presentation. You've got a great manner on the video, better than most spinners, that comes off as friendly and authentic. You could use some better production values (music, transitions, etc.) but I know, you're not trying to be a professional you-tube star. So, all in all, I think your videos are extremely underrated. Take my upvote and my view and thank you!

I seem to spin the 2 ply “ok”, but my problem every time is that I have one bobbin left with lots of single on it and the other bobbin is empty. =(
