    Thanks for taking the time to make this. It'll save me all kinds of trouble and looks more possible to manage seeing you do it step by step

    Just watched the end of the Vid and heard uou say fourth set of wishbone bushes!
    They will last longer if you torque up the bolts with the wheel on the ground and the weight on the bushes. Tightening up with the wheel unloaded puts the Bush rubber under extra tension causing early failure.
    Hard to do in the road I appreciate.

      Once it's back together I take it to a garage who realines my tracking and adjusts the torque on all the bolts. Yeah 4th time once on my other l400 and 3 times on this one but I have 400,000 km in it since I've owned it

      Heat the area before trying to slide them in It makes it far easier .

    Must cost a fortune in oil looking at that leak! At least the front end won't rust.
    Great 'real' video Shane.

      When it's not leaking that's when you got to start worrying about oil

    Just did my mates freelander, ended up with 3 sets of ratchet straps to line the holes up.
    And the replacement rubbers are all sh1t, original does 100k then the new'ns do 20, I struggle with the prop shaft uj's on my mota, the rubbers perish after a year then I'm pumping grease into it every week to keep the sh1t out, 3 times I've swapped it in 6 years.

      OEM parts suck even patented ones, they use the cheapest materials going. I've done 400k in this car since I've owned it. Done more work on them then I can remember it's a bit of a never ending battle keeping 30 year old cars on the road but so worth it plus, the cars like family gone everywhere with us. The black l400 on my drive is the first car I ever owned and the one I'm under is the second car I've ever had

      @@smithbuilt that's mad mate, well done for keeping them going.
      I just remembered a mate of mine who used to pump his engine mounts full of pu sealant because he couldn't be arsed to replace them, would probably work on those lowers.

      @@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 I was thinking on buying some polyurethane bar and machining up some split bushes. But i would have pumped them full of pu at the point I got out from the river that formed I was bloody freezing lol

      @@smithbuilt I'm not a fan of poly bushes, I use them because they're cheap but on some joints they fail even quicker than the OEM parts and make the ride a harsh, if you didn't care about the harshness though I'd use nylon 6 (not 66) but just buying the poly bush kit might even be cheaper if you are buying stock plastics off eBay?

    • @smithbuilt
      @smithbuilt  2 роки тому

      @@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 yeah the price of polyurethane rod was suprisingly high. That's why I just put the OEM bushes on. To be fair I take my cars off road I regularly carry heavy loads in the back hence why I've lifted and up rated my running gear where I can. So considering the abuse I put them through I guess there holding up well. You should find me on Facebook you might find some of the stuff I get up too off camera more you're kinda fun, not to sure on posting somethings on UA-cam as I would probably get so much sh1t for it

      @@smithbuilt I have noticed you have an oxford welder are they any good ? any better then the clarke mig ? what size wire do you use .cheers

    • @smithbuilt
      @smithbuilt  Рік тому

      @@stepho9999 it is amazing. I've used many different mig sets over the years from big huge industrial sets to my not so cheap but dead clarke. Got to admit I love my oxford set it's a 330 I mig. Runs off 240v too, they sell a 440amp 240v set aswell but I felt shat with my 3 rotary phase converter my local grid probably hates me enough already. I use 0.8mm I can run 1.0mm but theres no need it has a 4x4 wire feed unit so it can really chuck the wire out. Plus thicker wire causes higher draw and I really dont want to fry it. I got a 10 year guarantee on the transformer. If you're wanting a new transformer based set you should jump on it as I'm told there all going to inverter based very soon.

      Unfortunately not I brought mine through my local supplier. I'll do a review on it later in the year once I had some good use of it, for now I've only used it maybe 150 hours
