Driving in Spain: Autovía SE-40 Sevilla Southeastern Bypass

- In this video you can ride along on Autovía SE-40 otherwise known as the Sevilla Southeastern bypass. In Spain many urban highways that are part of larger cities' metropolitan areas have their own prefixes. In this case 'SE' for 'Sevilla'.
The SE-40 bypass of Sevilla is still partly a work in progress and this section opened up not too long ago. The intention is of course to relieve some of the highways circling the city center of through-traffic. The SE-40 is already more than 70 kilometers in length but not quite finished yet. A link is missing from the junction with the AP4 near Dos Hermanas to Coria del Río, South of Sevilla. This missing link would cross the Guadalquivir river and would be fairly costly to construct.
Whether the SE-40 will ever be completed in a full loop around the city remains to be seen. There is currently the SE-20 North of the city but it's not a limited-access expressway or highway.

In 2019, I was coming from Portugal, and my Garmin and the car GPS kept telling me at the end of SE-40 to enter the roundabout and cross the bridge. Good thing I had also brought a paper map. The bridge was never built, and google maps as of October 30, 2023, confirms that the bridge 'still' is not built. I followed A-8058 north, intersecting with SE-30, crossing both rivers, and then connecting to A-4 to continue my trip south to Cadiz.
Yea Southwest of the city the SE-40 is still not fully built out.
The road is obviously built for future growth 😜 Or Spanish people stay at home when it rains 😉😋
