I’m really digging the “all-over-the-place” vlogging, were you just share what goes on in your mind, it doesn’t need to be an event or so for me. Also, I feel the same when I’m alone for a couple of days, thinking about a less consumerist lifestyle and actually reducing all that I have that is material in any way.. I’ve been moving a round a lot lately due to my studies and really felt that the essentials were always the same, whereas all the other stuff is just so unnecessary and only clogging my life. A good friend of mine helps out with an organization called "Got Skills" where every week they take young men who don't have father's in their lives and teach them different skills. Sometimes it's how to dress for a job interview, sometimes it's how to tie a tie properly, some weeks it is how to operate a lawnmower, other weeks it's how to prepare basic meals, their last get together was giving back. They helped out a food pantry. I think something like that is priceless because those life skills are so important and it's something young people don't learn in school. You have talents to share, maybe sharing those with young people? something along those lines?

Allana--so love hearing your thoughts about your "quarter-life crisis." Even though I'm in such a different industry, still so relatable. Would love to hear more in the future. I haven't tried minimalism, per say, but I'm always trying to live minimally in terms of my exposure to technology/social media. Trying to keep my brain/heart/creativity fresh!
Also, as a video idea re: your question about where the beauty world is headed...would so love to see you do a video where you try to use the same 10 products or so for a week, doing different makeup looks with that limitation. As someone with a TINY collection, this would be a super fun way to learn how to be creative with makeup while also coming from a more minimalistic place! xo

I'm loving the self-discovery journey you're on and I would love to see more vlogs like this as you explore that further. Volunteer work can seem scary and big to tackle but find something you're passionate about and start small, just an hour of your time here and there. You are such a radiant personality, wherever the UA-cam beauty space ends up, your videos will be watched because you bring so many qualities to your work. It's not just beauty
this year i started fostering kittens and supporting my local spca. i've found so much joy from doing this! i know its such a small step and little thing but seeing new families adopt these kittens gives me so much hope and joy.
i've also really tried to start shopping my closet, taking unused things to consignment and buying from thrift stores as much as possible. now i'm sticking to buying the basics if i have to and building a smaller more wearable closet.

Guuuurl, I feel you on the whole minimalism tip! I watched that documentary last year and began really decluttering my bedroom (where I spend the most time) of STUFF and clothes I’ve had since I was like 14. I declutter my room at least once every few months - even if it only means I’m getting rid of an old pair of socks or trash I’ve accumulated. Fast forward now to less than a year away from turning 30, and that whole minimalist attitude is being applied to my personal life - purging everything and everyone that doesn’t bring me joy or add value to my life!

For the past 3 years I've been a volunteer at the children's hospital and now I started up at a crisis line for self-identified women who have/are being abused. It's been the most rewarding part of my life - so grateful for the opportunity
I've noticed in the last year a bigger focus on reducing, reusing, repairing, recycling! And I am here for it! I usually do a quarterly editing/purging of "stuff". I give it to family, friends and charity. My 2020 goals are low-buy. We have upcoming home repairs in the spring, so saving for that instead of buying stuff. I also try to give more "experiences" as gifts - dinner dates, concerts, theatre events, cooking classes, sporting activities. This was a terrific video, Lan! I also love the idea of creating outfits on a monthly basis, please do a video on this. You ROCK, 💯.

I agree that the beauty community feels like a shift is happening where brands responded to the customer’s consumption and now as consumers are taking a step back and saying it’s just too much. I had a moment where I was buying a lot of beauty products and realized that a lot of it I didn’t end up using or just didn’t like and would just go back to my old favorite products or just bring overwhelmed with the amount I have. I have two small draws on my vanity desk full of stuff and I got overwhelmed I can’t imaging what it’s like getting stuff all the time and constantly being surrounded by things and clutter and then go have the guilt to waste on top of it. I’m glad that a lot of creators have spoke about their struggles with consumption because it makes you take a step back and realize that it is becoming just way too much! 🧡

I’ve watched both documentaries. Since watching minimalists a few years ago we decluttered massively and have been so much happier since. Everything is so much easier when you have less stuff. And game changers reinforces the idea that we should all eat more plant base. It’s great that you’re talking openly about this though, makes you really genuine ❤️
Everyday ‘boring’ vlogs are my favorite! I love the talk about being more minimalistic. I’ve been trying to go low waste for about two years but clothing was always hard for me and I started doing a capsule wardrobe after watching your clothing videos and it’s so cool! I’m loving it so far. It makes it so much easier to not want to buy everything!

I am a history teacher and a cheer coach and sometimes it’s hard to escape from work because I love so much what I do! I catch myself watching history vids at midnight thinking about what I could use for my class and when it’s not that, it’s cheer vids to inspire me to create better routines for my kids. I watched minimalism right before I left for England for a year and let me tell you girl: being able to fit everything I'd need for a year in a suitcase and a carry on was one of the most enlightening things that has happened to me. And my year was so incredible because I wasn't focused on all of my stuff but rather on enjoying my time there ♥️

I was reading some article somewhere but I CANNOT remember where or the exact wording. BUT with the rise of the "minimalist" lifestyle with Marie Kondo, etc., that it started creating more waste because second hand stores and thrift stores didn't have the space to resell all the items being donated and over half started going to landfills, at least in my general area (washington state) so maybe that's something to keep in mind as well? I know it takes more time but selling things on your own and donating the money might be more beneficial. Also, if anyone knows what I'm talking about regarding the article, please add more info!

(if you're not familiar, the Ronald McDonald House provides a home environment for families traveling with kids who need medical care! It saves families from having to dish out money on hotels, etc.)

I've been trying for the past year "being more minimalist". I only shop what I need, and what I truly want. The whole mentality of "get rid what does not being you joy", imo, isnt enough cause I kept buying and throwing away stuff. The creators of Use Less, Matt D'Avella and Samantha Ravndahl really inspired me for this journey. Hope it helps 💞

Love your vlogs I've never missed one!!! You rock girl! And watched the minimalism documentary last year and its life changing. When you stop associating happiest and joy with items and stop trying to fill a void with material items you literally change completely. Its amazing!
Also love your idea of shopping your closet. I find that when I invest in quality pieces (either in material or make) they end up being timeless and I never get tired of styling them season after season

I've watched that documentary and I've been so interested in minimalism over the last year. I recently read digital minimalism and I would definitely recommend it, it's very enlightening and helps you look as minimalism in other ways not just items you own, it's more than that

Yes, definitely need to do shop your closet vids! When I’m going through my closet I put outfits together of clothes I haven’t worn for a while. If I wear and don’t feel great it needs to go! I feel like you are moving more towards the sustainability route which I’m here for!
I am totally on board with your buy less feelings. I can’t afford to keep up with all new products and launches so I definitely find it more inspiring and relatable when influencers “shop their stash” or show you new ways to use products you already own!

It’s so weird that so many people are beginning to feel this way. I agree with you. I’ve been feeling compelled to stop shopping and being an active consumer unless it’s a necessity. Something has been nagging me inside to be more helpful and more minimal and it’s so hard to decide and figure out what to do. Love your channel. I get so upset like that too sometimes!! The thing I feel makes the most sense to me and helps me not feel overwhelmed is thinking “you can’t change the whole world but you can change your world”.
So I am focusing on going low waste, plant based eating and not participating in fast fashion. Buying ethically and sustainably.
Thinking how much does each thing I buy affect people, animals and the earth. So I know that my actions are kind to all I am affecting. Living consciously and kindly!

I'm feeling lately exactly like you, having the need to declutter everything in my life and be more aware of my consumption. The last Black Friday I was so stressed about buying stuff, but in the end I managed to make smart purchases that I'm really proud of without anything unnecessary. I feel as I'm growing up I hold more meaning for experiences and memories rather than material stuff.
