NGL that theory with the matoran civil war being responsible for the insults vakama gets in the movie was really interesting.
For the tenth tier, i'd add a very obscure piece of lore, made up by the Polish marketing team; namely, "Io, the Creator". The original 2001 official Polish Bionicle website contained a mention of a very bizzare Bionicle origin story. In it, a deity named "Io, the Creator" created the Toa.
Io means "I/me" in italian
I wonder if this is what Artahka would be later based off of. We know Lhikan areas based on Lhii the Surfer, so who’s to say that Io isn’t Artahka?

I think many people associated love with reproduction and romance. The Bionicle characters can love each other like the love between friends and family.
Yeah, unfortunately so many people don't realize there's a difference between sexuality and romance. You're right, asexual doesn't mean aromantic~
love is a byproduct of reproduction. Without reproduction an animal or "thing" wont make the chamicals that make love possible in the first place. This is bound to our laws of nature tho .... The writer of Bionicle can choose whatever he wants that makes things work or not.

This iceberg awoke an old memory of the Bionicle revolution film. I remember seeing that trailer and wondering why it looks so hideous. I’m glad it got canned.

And about “The dream” entry, I actually had those as a kid with not just Bionicle but with Lego as a whole.
It was exactly like it was shown in the video. Me buying Lego sets that I couldn’t afford at the time or weren’t around to get.

It's a bit of a shame that everything related to the biodermis smith was completely cut and decanonised, matoran being able to create small rahi is a concept with a lot of potential
The biodermis smith could also be the missing link to the alleged "matoran making machines" that apparently exist in lore but are never mentioned

I find it funny how many of my ideas for what i would change about Bionicle's storyline happen to be thing that were considered at one point by the Bionicle team.
Which for the record i wasn't even aware of at the time i thought them up.
I'm surprised the video didn't talk about the rumored ignition movie trilogy, there's rumors Lego at one time had plans for it but according to Wikipedia Miramax stopped doing kids movies shortly after Web of Shadows came out.
Plans for the Ignition movie trilogy wasn’t fully confirmed and wasn’t something that was mentioned in the Iceberg we were working with. I’ve also heard these rumors and I believe Lego put a stop to the movies due to the darker themes of 2006-2008 and because they had other kinds of media they can do to tell the story.

Oh dang just realized that where I’m at yesterday was Bionicle Day, means I got my set on the same day!
The problem also comes with how people tell their dates. Americans place months before days, while international dates are from days then months. In this sense we have two Bionicle Days (August 10th and Octorber 8th) , but the American one is mostly given attention due to most Bionicle online influencers being from the US.

I still hate the Maori controversy, because you should be able to use anything from any culture to create a work of fiction. Where were Dune be if Frank Herbert didn't pull words an elements from Middle Eastern culture. It's like going after everything in the fantasy genre because it's based off of European culture and history.

Yes they are still active though we did point out they don’t do Bionicle content anymore like they used to.

Though I don't really understand why the female narrater at 44:47 talks about Bionicle Revolution with so much shade? I remember seeing the trailer for this when I was a kid and I had mixed feelings about mixing Bionicle and Hero Factory, and disregarding existing story elements, sure. But in hindsight this was a very good looking trailer for an ambitious project, and isn't it the writer's freedom to write a story about whatever they want? Aren't they free to give Tahu, Furno, etc. a completely new story? Idk, looking back at this project as an adult I admire the work they put into this despite it straying away from the canon so much, and it's sad to see that some people are still petty over a work of art made with good intentions.
Revolution was controversial because of the script:
1. The creator had very little knowledge about Bionicle (was even surprised that Vezok was not the leader of the Piraka
2. For some reason Mata Nui was the villain. Apparently because he was a godlike character and the creator apparently said that if any god irl or in fiction existed they must be evil 🤷
3. The script contained swearing to make it more edgy.
4. Many of the fans involved in the project got to play their own self MOC characters and alternate Bionicle egos, they made up a pretty remarkable part of the cast. I think some main characters were mistaken for story related characters, like Lhikan, but were actually YT alter egos
Once the the script was found people abandoned ship.
I actually followed Failsafe's new work for a while before even learning about the Failsafe days. The shade comment was an inside joke with myself that was meant to be cut out, as it's missing all my internal thought context. The actual intention was a bit of a mirror of the vibe of Failsafe's current content, which is laced with dry sarcasm, cynicism, and characters shading each other, which is also kind of an ironic comparison to how I've seen Bionicle fans talk about Revolution. I actually enjoy and appreciate Failsafe's original work (although have been afraid to say so), and was aghast to find out I'd left the comment in, as it comes off completely wrong. Some others found it funny, so I hoped it would be okay since the video was already published, but I completely understand your take.

@@Makutros I noticed that they don't have a lot of bionicle lore or character knowledge, but I always loved how you could make up your own stories with bionicle characters, give them a whole new role, or even create entirely new characters. All of us who bought the sets before learning about the story made our own stories too. I get that people find it weird to see Mata Nui being evil, or a Likhan lookalike with another name and character, but hey that's what Lego is ultimately all about, right? Making your own stories in your head as you play with plastic brick-built toys? In my opinion people were too hard on the creator, for just wanting to write a new story that was very loosely based on what was given. They didn't deserve all that hate I remember it got back in the day.
@@watsedhaene I agree that Lego is a good tool to get creativity flowing. There are a lot of projects out there that actually do a lot of cool things with Bionicle and do not follow strict canon. Reviving Bionicle and Knight of Knoxus for example.
The difference between those and Revolution is that Revolution just seems kind of spiteful and reactionary subversive in comparison. It twists and turns the characters into weird shapes that soothe an edgy story, that has not really that much to do with the themes of Hero Factory or Bionicle, while also pretending it's a sequel to G1. Is Revolution the worst thing that (n)ever happened to Bionicle? Probably not. But the expectations many people had for this project after watching the trailers were way different from what was actually produced. Maybe because of bad communication, maybe because the creator wanted to subvert expectations a little too hard?
I can accept asexuality and reproduction being impossible or just not part of the Bionicle setting. But they're also very fuzzy concepts in Transformers, and they get to have romance. Why can't they just like cuddle and hold hands.

I think everyone jn the entire matoran universe being ace (expect Veika) is incredibly based. It's a large variety of representation of different characters with asexuality especially for children's franchise, espectially especially so since being ace very rarely gets represented in media.
I think he did it because he wanted them to be more mechanical than organic, hence no romance

Also Moari=Disney used our words in Moana, we now feel represented.
Lego used it without their permission and basically diluted their Maori culture while Disney at least used the words to highlight the Maori culture through their film.

@@sagittariusneptune9330 Disney at least did what they can to preserve the original Māori Polynesian culture through the movie, not just use the words. Also Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a Samoan. The movie overall ended up bringing more representation for the Polynesian culture and people which is something they appreciated.
@@amajanuitales And lego did nothing wrong with words, hell lego was considerate enough to drop the head knocking scheme for masks to be respectful(which the maori use to collected heads, yet they get upset when 100 year old tattoo skins of their people in mueseums) the Maori at the time were just tight wads about that, they knew they weren't going to win against Disney over that so they act like happy campers, and Disney still made profit off their words. I may not look like it but I'm part Cherokee but you don't see me or other Cherokee relatives demanding our words be taken back.
The Maori people have been under many decades of genocide and erasure, which included during 2001. Many Maori people did like Bionicle, but the lawsuit was understandable, and set American legal precedent that would help prevent the villianization and misrepresention of Maori culture, as well as other dwindling cultures of native groups around the world.

All right, I will. There's probably a universe out there where Velika let the Matoran experience romance, which is what MNOG and the movies take place in. But TAMARU IS NOT TRANS. You can be a Matoran of one element but feel more at home with the community of another element. For instance, there's at least one Bo-Matoran ;living among the other koros on Mata Nui. Does that make them that element? No! Other examples include some Onu-Matoran preferring to study the future in Ko-Metru rather than history in theiur own district. That doesn't make them Ko-Matoran, it just means they're Onu-Matoran who like doing different things.
