I absolutely love my oasis. Also, If you ask amazon to remove the ads for you and make sure your kindle is updated, you can now opt to show the cover of the current book you’re reading show on the sleep screen which I thinking is pretty cool.
I upgraded to the Oasis from the PW recently and love it. It’s enhanced my reading experience so much! The battery life did surprise me, but it’s actually gotten better as I’ve used it longer (I probably started noticing it around week 3 or 4). Idk if that’s supposed to happen, lol, but it did. I do keep it on airline mode a lot, but even on wifi I think it’s gotten better. Anyway, the size of the screen is perfect and really feels like I’m reading a book. The buttons are great. It’s so speedy!! I never thought the PW was slow, but the oasis is so much more responsive. And the warm light (the main reason I got it) is fantastic. I love having it on a schedule. Oh also! I love the automatic brightness on the Oasis and how if you’re in a dark room, it slowly dims the screen as your eyes adjust to the darkness. And last thing, the screen is more white than the paperwhite (maybe because of the warm lights? Idk). It’s honestly really difficult for me to do anything on my Paperwhite now. Anyway. Sorry for the long comment. I just really love my Oasis 😂
My battery has improved after indexing but the volume I read it still drains faster than my paperwhite did. I’m definitely loving it overall though it’s become a big improved reading experience. I just don’t think it’s still fully worth the upgrade for most readers.
It's now late November 2022 and I just orderd the new "Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition". Im excited to start using it. I also just bought my mom a Paperwhite regular version for Christmas, but I upgraded the storage from 8GB to 16GB just in case she does want to use it for audiobooks. She will be super happy to get this version I think because it's the model she wanted but just with even more storage. Plus I got her a protective cover and screen protector too. (My Signature version comes standard with 32GB.) The all new Paperwhite and Paperwhite Signature Edition seem to overall be better values than the Oasis since they both now offer 95% and 98% of all the features of the Oasis. But they also offer a couple of features like USB-C that the Oasis doesn't offer. The cellular antenna in the Oasis may infact be causing the shorter battery life as it is probably always looking for a signal. This is why using airplane mode on a phone saves battery life. It turns off the cellular antenna. The other Kindles don't have cellular antennas that would drain the battery. So this is my educated guess? Sadly the Oasis still hasn't seen an update. It may see one in 2023. But It also may just eventually be phased out im wondering due to the new Kindle Scribe coming out next month. Amazon is billing the Kindle Scribe as a Kindle Paperwhite. But just with a larger display and pen functionality. So im now wondering if the Kindle Paperwhite "Signature Edition" is technically now their "Flagship model" of the read-specific E-book lineup and the Oasis will fade away over 2023. Im not sure yet. Im just speculating here. 🙂
my kindle paper white is perfect, I never had a case I just bought the amazon fabric case and cant put the kindle down! good battery good size good weight, im just involve with my paper white I don't think im upgrading anytime soon but the oasis looks amazing too maybe in the future who knows.. good review thanks
I have both, but now I hardly use my paper white. I love the oasis. I also read hundreds of books a year, but I have never had a problem running out of battery, it is not that difficult to monitor it, and charge it while I sleep. I really like the warm feature. The dark screen is very bad for your eyes. I can lay on my bed and drink a cup of coffee, while reading. None of that continuous swiping. I bought the leather cover; it was pricey, but I'm glad I bought it. You can't go wrong with either Kindle. They are great.
I started with a Kindle keyboard, too! Then upgraded to the Kindle Touch during my senior year of college. I absolutely hated the touch screen-it made it feel more like a tech device than a book; I wasn’t as immersed-and I slowly wound up becoming less of a digital reader because of it. Flash forward to 2021 and I am (after a year of lockdown reading!) tripping over books everywhere I go & can’t get rid of them fast enough, plus grad school reading only added to my book collection. I bought an Oasis after watching this video and I’m really glad! It’s the same immersive feeling I got from the Keyboard. Who would’ve thought two buttons is all it would take. Thanks so much for posting this!
I’ve been planning on doing this video for awhile. I bought the oasis in December and recently upgraded the old kindle paper white to the new version. I have to say after 4 months of use It’s hard going back to the paper white. I need the buttons, that is the biggest feature. I have the same issue with the battery, and I feel like the design on the back just doesn’t work on the oasis because you have to have a case, which defeats the purpose so it just looks wonky IMO, but I love the better lighting and the larger screen.
IDK how I'll ever go back now because the buttons were so missed for me after they went away on the regular kindle. The battery issue is still killing me though. Agreed the case makes me like ughh cause the grip is great but only with that added bulk!
You are liiiiterally me regarding your reading habits!! From the amount of books to the time daily to being an exclusively digital reader. I also had the keyboard and now have the paper white!
Isabelle, thank you for this video. I was on the fence and you've pushed me over the edge with your review. Really appreciate you taking the time and being so thorough. You're great.
This review is lit and I have the Paperwhite 4. Makes reading extremely fun and convenient. I’ve even re-bought so many of the books I physically own just to have them on my Kindle Paperwhite lol
@@HappyforNow that’s exactly right it sure is! My main reason for getting the Paperwhite is bc I travel a lot and got so tired of having lots of books in my carry-on backpack lol. This was the perfect solution and now it seems weird that my backpack has a TON of space now lol
Thank you for your honest review. I will stick to my Paperwhite , I enjoy the battery life. I read on the the train to and from work, in my backyard and at the beach. I will keep the Oasis in mind for my friends who has hand problems as an option for them. Again Thanks and Happy Reading
I'm on my second Oasis (basic with buttons, the fancy one that was before oasis and then oasis is my progression -- never did paperwhite because I LOVE buttons) -- battery got a bit worse between the one I have now and first gen oasis. I still love it though -- my main source of entertainment is my Kindle. I love having 32 gb because I have a ton of books and I like keeping all of my favorites on my Kindle so I can reread them without reloading them. I will also buy a new one if it has better battery. What I want even more though is for them to add a customizable metadata field to the software that the user can edit for each book and the user can use for sorting (in addition to the normal sorting methods). I go through some major collection acrobatics to organize all of my books. Thankfully they store the collections in the cloud these days because in the very beginning it was a huge mess when you had to change devices.
This came right on time, because I currently have an Oasis sitting in my cart, b/c my friend convinced me to get one. So I've been looking into getting one.
To me I haven’t had an issue with the oasis I’ve had battery on for weeks at a time and barley drained I really love the oasis (I don’t use airplane mode or anything like that) in my opinion I think it’s worth it because of the page turn buttons and the cool features that come with it
I really want to get an Oasis. I'm still using my iPad and it's definitely hurting my eyes. Except I'm moving soon so I have to wait. But definitely getting one especially as a left hander! Such a great video!
I love my Oasis. I got mine the 1st week of January and while I don't use it as much as you do (I'm almost 100% an eBook reader, but I do switch between it and my Kobo Libra H20). That being said, I've only charged it twice and neither time did I let it go below 25%. I also have it on WIFI and Bluetooth all the time. Just as a side note, Kindles are a bit different Canada/USA - you guys have ads on your Kindles where as we don't and I have to wonder if that makes a difference in battery life. I believe the ads are on your lock screen, is that correct? We just get a standard ugly picture LOL Just an interesting observation :) I paid full price for mine (over $300 CDN)... actually hubby did as it was a gift, so I can't complain too much Awesome video as usual!
I am so jealous of your Libra H20 I want one but I have no real need for it. Yeah we have a with ads and without ads option. I'm not sure why mine is so bad I also know that it seems to vary wildly? Some people told me their oasis had no battery issue and others have the same situation as me. I loving the upgrade but also hate the battery life issue.
@@HappyforNow Agreed, there is such a discrepancy between battery issues as I have heard the same. The Libra is a great devise and the only reason I have it is so I can read Overdrive books ;)
The kindle with ads shows ads on your lock screen and a small banner ad on the bottom of the home screen pages. There aren't any anywhere else. I have recommended view turned off on my homescreen so mine just shows my collections and books with a small banner ad at the bottom.
Highly recommend the voyage. It’s nice premium quality like the oasis, really fast, has page turn sensors/buttons, glass flush screen. Really crisp ink. There’s no reason to upgrade to the oasis in my opinion if you can get a voyage or have the voyage. It’s not waterproof and you can’t use audible with it. Those really are the only added upgrades it doesn’t have. Neither which make a difference to me. Sad they discontinued their best kindle, but you can easily find used.
I used to have the voyage and really loved it, especially those page buttons. but then the screen cracked so I got the oasis and love it so much. It was worth it to me although the battery could be better but maybe it’s the processor that causes it not sure.
I have a voyage and I’m constantly using it and I love it, as of right now I have no reason to upgrade it. Mine works really good! It would be cool if they bring it back with the voyage 2 one of these days.
Great review! I have been reading with the Paperwhite since 2013 and switched to an Oasis a couple months ago. To me it really is a day / night difference. To start - I just love the size and the speed - that little bit of extra room really does feel much more like a real book and I love that everything you do on it is lightning fast and responds instantly. Even the newest Paperwhite from 2018 feels super slow in comparison. I also love the buttons - suddenly I NEVER use touch anymore lol The feel of it is also great - it feels light and airy and fits perfectly in your hand. However - You are definitely correct about the battery! As you pointed out - it is significantly worse than the Paperwhite. That took a little while to get used to but it is still acceptable to me - I charge it once or twice a week or so and that seems fine. But to me all of the other improvements make up for that and whenever I try to go back to my Paperwhite I end up really missing all the bells and whistles of my Oasis. So if you are a big reader and really love reading with an ereader - I really think the Oasis is just the best in class and worth every penny!
so this might be kinda late and slightly off topic.... but so glad i found this video. i've been hemming and hawing about getting an e-reader/kindle and specifically what model. and thanks to your recommendation as to what and where to purchase one, i was able to buy a kindle paperwhite 4 with 32gb for $80 (with a coupon) from unclaimed baggage. it was probably one of the best steals of my life. super stoked at finding a 32gb for that price. thank you!
@@HappyforNow i can't wait to get my hands on it! i've been checking for shipping updates! i've already placed a couple holds in my library's libby ebook section
@@HappyforNow Lol! Yeah I could tell by how you said it that the battery was a big issue 😆, my next soon Kindle upgrade will be the latest signature edition 32GB Paperwhite 5
I think the latest software update fixed the battery life issue. I have both the 1st and 2nd generation Oasis. 1st generation Oasis never had a battery life issue. I don’t remember the 2nd generation Oasis having a battery life issue until a few software updates later. Now with the latest update, that issue seems to be fixed. So the problem seems to be software caused and fixed, not hardware.
I had the 2010 kindle and switched to the fantastic paperwhite! Since I am a traveller and a bookworm I love the Kindle I have, charge it every 2 weeks, but the battery is a major thing and a question mark, regarding the oasis, waiting for a deal IF I am changing in time, but the battery is the reason I am currently staying with the Paperwhite ! Thanks for the honest review! Really appreciate it!
The paperwhite is such a solid upgrade from the older kindles! I definitely think the battery situation makes it a hard sell on upgrading if yours is doing just fine. Your welcome 💖
I've had my Paperwhite since 2012 and it's still going strong LOL. I've wanted to get a new one...IDK why really, but I feel like I've seen reviews where it wasn't really necessary to upgrade to the current Paperwhite.
I got my first Kindle this year for my birthday thanks to my boyfriend. It's probably the best thing I've gotten in a while! The Oasis looks cool but that battery is rough! I feel like it would die in 2-3 days of using it considering how much I read.
That is exactly my problem. I'm home enough that I just charge it when I notice a drop in the battery. I'm doing some more testing to see if it gets any better or worse.
this is proof enough for me that i don't need the oasis 🤭 (plus, i can't deal with the asymmetrical design...) rumor has it that there might be a new paperwhite in the future with usb-c and warmlight. i would love to upgrade to that one 😂 i also wish they would release a new kindle voyage, i've only seen videos but those page turn sensors seem like a pretty cool feature...
I'm unsurprisingly unbothered by the asymmetrical set up since it makes it so light. Both models at this point are 2ish years old so they should be due for some updates sooner than later hopefully!
I think most of us Oasis users don’t notice the asymmetrical design because our hands are on the big side, covering it. So all we are looking at is a screen with really small bezels. Even when I use a kickstand though I don’t really notice it 🤷🏻♀️
Hello! How do youblike the flushed screens versus the older versions of paperwhite? I am still using PW2 (i think) from 6th gen, and quite enjoy a sunken screen. I'd love to hear your take if you were able to compare both types, from a non-tech perspective. ☺️
I actually prefer the non sunken screen. I like how much smoother it is to the touch. I also have found the screen itself is a little nicer on the flush one. It wasn’t a huge adjustment when I did switch from an older paperwhite to the new style.
Great review on the kindle oasis and I agree completely. I actually find I like holding the oasis without a case, I like how lighter it feels and I think we have the same case lol the battery life is the only thing I would change. The warmth light setting is one of my favorite aspects …..it really changes night reading for me.
I have a different case now. I find it clunky to hold sans case. But yeah the battery is my biggest complaint. I wish it was better so I wasn’t having to charge/pay as much attention to it.
@@HappyforNow It still surprises me that with how much money it is, they couldn't have a better battery. The only reason I can think of is the different processor it has. I just charge it every night, keep the wifi off unless I need to use it and then it will last me all day even if I read on it all day. But yeah its annoying having to watch the battery levels. Everything else I really love about it.
I love the buttons but same issue when I use it regularly. Sometimes it’s daily which is why I switched to the paperwhite I can’t be interrupted in my reading time
I might check Unclaimed Baggage and see if I can find one. The price is why I currently have the basic Kindle. I really want the warm light and buttons on the Oasis though.
Just bought the Oasis. I bought 32 gb version, perhaps a bit overkilled since i dont think i will ever have 15000 books stored there.... but thats me, i love the feeling to have plenty of place. Else i love everything about Oasis and feel its super quality, very fast and not at least very pleasent for the eyes to read on it :)
I have both and I completely agree with your review. My paper white is 7th edition I think and has some kind of light blur thing going on towards the bottom of the screen which was bothering my eyes. I went ahead and got the oasis which I do love but I agree that the battery-life sucks. I have also recently noticed that periodically when doing a page turn it does a hiccuping or lagging page turn. That just started recently so I’m not quite sure what is going on with that. I just recently ordered a new paper white during prime days since I don’t think mine is waterproof. I don’t read quite as much as you, but I do read every day some times until the wee hours of the morning. I decided that at least with a paper white, I’ll have a back up should I need it during the wee hours of the morning..
should I Upgrade from kindle 2018 to kindle oasis 2021? I am really confused, but I am bored of this small text screen. what would you all recommend? thanks
I actually don't have any! I just use my phone or tablet.. but I really want one, but I am leaning towards Oasis purely for it being bigger screen and better grip. Prob just wait at this point though for new model?? Idk. Lol 😆
If you aren't used to an ereader I'd go with the paperwhite to see if you like it. I get migraines from reading on tablets/phones so the switch has been necessary for me.
So, I'm still using a kindle keyboard D00901. I actually got online yesterday and put a Paperwhite in my cart to finally upgrade for $129. Right before clicking on the next day shipping a light bulb went off that it was a few days from Prime Day. Now I'm realizing I can get an Oasis on prime day for about that price, or get that Paperwhite for around $80. So here I am, watching reviews and trying to decide. I appreciate the time you out into this, although I still haven't decided, lol. I cannot wait for the lit up display, though, as I hate switching to my phone at bedtime. Both should be astronomical upgrades, and my main debate is giving up my buttons or not for about $100+ savings.
Depending on the deal it may be worth getting on prime day, but I will say I have never been unhappy with my paperwhite. The Oasis battery is definitely not the best if you like to read for long chunks/forget to charge your device.
@@HappyforNow appreciate the info. I also have a suspicion that they'll release a new Paperwhite later this year, equipped with USB C. If this were a phone or tablet, that would be a deal breaker for me and I'd wait. With a kindle, though, charging isn't nearly as frequent or urgent and the files I transfer are so small and quick regardless that I don't really mind the micro USB at all.
I've had a Kindle Paperwhite for close to two years now and am so happy that I bought it as it's been a lot easier on my eyes plus the battery life is amazing. I also have a Kindle Fire which I use for Manga, Graphic novels or just to change things up. I thought about getting a Kindle Oasis but I don't feel that it's worth the price for what I want in an e-reader. I hope that eventually Kindle might come out with e-readers that have colored ink though I know that could be pricey.
The oasis is really cool, but it's definitely not worth the upgrade if you are completely thrilled with your paperwhite. I am really curious to see if we get a full color ereader that isn't a tablet in the future.
@@HappyforNow Good to know, I debated getting the Paperwhite that I have now but am so glad that I took the leap. I have seen some e-readers have colored ink though not in the U.S. but if it becomes really popular, wouldn't be surprised if it eventually came to the U.S.
I was wondering what the difference is between the paper white vs the oasis, and I think I’ll stick to my paper white. It was a game changer for me when I got it last year, it’s so much easier to carry around in my bag then a book, also I love the dark background option to it. I primarily leave my background dark because I tend to do a lot of reading in the dark and the brightness of the screen tends to hurt my eyes. Thanks for the review
I’m the same the dark mode is a life saver with my nighttime reading/migraines! Your so welcome I definitely love the device but it’s not worth the upgrade at all.
Very good review. I have a question though. Can you feel the difference of weight between the Oasis and the Paperwhite? Because I know the Oasis is heavier. But I'd like to know how do you feel it.
Hi, do you know if you can disable page turning by touching the screen and relying only on the buttons? I’m considering upgrading as I have an ooooold kindle with buttons but no backlight and I love just being able to put my fingers all over, not interacting with anything. Thanks for your review, I hope you have an awesome day.
I go through phases where I get into reading, then lose interest in reading, then get into it again…. Well I bought a kindle paper white last year and got into reading more than ever… then lost interest again. Now my interest is coming back. I like trashy romance, mysteries, horror, suspense, spooky. In a nutshell, you just gained a subscriber because I’m trying to find a UA-cam channel to help keep me engaged with reading. If anyone can suggest others based on my interests, please let me know.
Yay for reading 💖 I do find book channels super helpful for me to stay on track with mine. There’s so many options I would search for recommendation videos and go from there to find channels 💖
I have been in love with my Paperwhite for the past 2 or 3 years. I didn't know if i'd like it so I didn't want to drop the money on the Oasis. I enjoy throwing in my motorcycle bag and riding out into the middle of nowhere and reading. I've taken my PW across the country on numerous trips and I am seldom without it. That said, I've been wanting an Oasis for the past year and have resisted the urge. I read roughly a novel a month, sometime I can chew through one in a few days, sometimes they take a couple weeks. But I read every day. My biggest personal issue is the harsh backlight at night. I do not like the dark mode and do not use it. The battery on my PW usually lasts about 1 month because I use natural light far more often then the back light. So I just ordered an Oasis Gen 10 and I'm looking forward to trying it out. I am concerned about the battery though.
I think you will have no issues with the battery if you keep it off wifi. I read a lot of books in a year which is were I'm noticing the battery issue the most. I finished two books (one novella one full length) and had to charge it the next morning. I also love the flexibility of taking my PW or oasis with me everywhere i go they both honestly take up about the same space.
Thanks for sharing! Currently I'm just a phone/iPad reader, I have a matte screen protector and have a habit of glancing around anyways so eye strain isn't really an issue, but I've debated switching to an ereader because Ive been reading outside on my porch more during this personal pan pizza time and sunlight had been an issue.
Glad it was helpful! The paperwhite or oasis does great in the sun! I just get triggered by too much screen time for migraines at this point so I have to do everything I can to avoid it.
My 2 complaints about the Oasis are: 1. battery, and 2. Seems like there is more excessive ghosting. Now... My solution for a case evolved. I bought a fabric case... And really liked how it felt, but, didn't like the cover folding around to the back. So, I cut the cover off, and keep the Oasis with just the backing in a sleeve. At the time, I could only find one case that only covers the back, and it didn't fit well.
Does the larger screen use up more battery life? The paperwhite has 5 LEDs while the oasis has 25. I have had the Kindle Voyage since 2015. It has the page-turner buttons on each side and fits into my pocket. I think that the next paperwhite should include page-turners.
I managed to get through a single 26 hour reading session with my Oasis and finished it with 13%, so you can definitely stretch the battery life depending on the settings.
Interesting. I have done some testing on my model and that is definitely basically impossible unless I want to read with no backlight. It seems like every models battery varies from my friends who also have the device (we all either have no battery life or no issue)
Regarding reading romance/smutty books. You don't happen to know if there is some sort of book club for us anywhere? Maybe a smutty book club on facebook etc? I have just gotten into reading again after a loooong time and would love to be able to talk to more people regarding the books. Especially smutty and romantic ones lol xo
I don’t really use Facebook so I’m not good for that but I have a discord for romance linked in the description and if you more interested in taboo there is the taboo book club hosted by Library of Tomes. That is also on a discord server.
Um so I am looking to buy a used kindle and found a 32 gig oasis(last gen) for the price of the 10th gen paperwhite. Do you think its a good deal? I don't use audiobooks if that is a factor.
I’d you really want buttons I don’t think it’s a bad deal but the paperwhite is a really solid device. The size isn’t going to matter if can hold so much in the smaller size if your not downloading audio. If you plan to read for extended time and don’t want to worry about charging I’d do the paperwhite s
I read outside a lot, how is it in sunlight? (my current kindle is 10 years old (and is starting to get a little finicky) and has no lights in it (I think its a g4))👻
I've never bought a kindle I'm looking into which one I want and I'm thinking the paperwhite but I've seen that it has a weird glitch where it goes black evertime you touch the screen.. has anyone had this issue
The model I have does not have cellular. I know the battery space is smaller on the oasis due to its layout and I would think the slightly bigger screen size also affects it.
I upgraded my kindle last year and was torn between a paperwhite or oasis and ultimately I chose the paperwhite because of the battery life. I really like the features of the warm light and accelerometer on the oasis. Kobo seems to have an equivalent that doesn’t have battery life issues. And the metal case of the oasis😬, I was worried it would be slippery.
Yeah I hesitate to get the Kobo because I've been in the kindle system for so long, but I have been tempted by it. Yeah the slipperiness is weird. I honestly don't understand why they didn't do a grippy material.
I was team kobo when I first got into ereaders... but.. unfortunately i purchased 2 kobo e readers and both lasted a little over a year before it stopped working :( kobo wouldn't fix or replace then because it was just passed warranty.. i purchased a kindle paperwhite in 2018 i still use it to this day.. never a single problem! I've been thinking about upgrading to the oasis just for the buttons because it can get quite annoying with page turning.. also i love reading in the bath and definitely would feel more comfortable having something waterproof
Down grade to the kindle 4th generation, still my favourite kindle of all time. Crazy battery life, super light and page turning buttons. I never read in the dark so who cares about a back light, I mean real books don’t have back lit pages, that’s what table lamps are for. When the battery becomes degraded simply replace it, try doing that with an oasis.
The battery on your oasis could be lasting less time than paperwhite because it could have been in the unclaimed baggage room for a couple of months. Sometimes cold can make batteries degrade a little bit quicker.
@@HappyforNow. I had the the oasis for nearly 2 years and have recently purchased the kobo forma which has an 8 inch screen which is 1 inch bigger than the screen on the oasis.
Ebooks are not very big overall so you won’t run into an issue as far as storage unless you are downloading audiobooks (I don’t recommend the kindle as an audiobook device)
@@HappyforNow Thank you. Me personally I've never really liked audiobooks. I prefer to read and imagine the voices 😄, however when I go to certain places (like dental apptms.) I can't sit down and read some books because of the "covers". So a friend recommend me an e-reader but I'm worried I will run out of space when buying books.
The transition from phone to kindle is amazing. It definitely makes it easier to read longer. The paperwhite was my constant for the last however many years that model has existed. It’s definitely a solid option either way.
That's great. But in my opinion a Kindle paperwhite 2021 is better than a Kindle oasis. I have both of them. Definitely Oasis is a great stuff however at the moment I use only paperwhite 2021.
@@ripeundead8239 I would also add the convenience of a glare free reading experiencing. Also no eye strain. I can read for hours on an e-reader. On my tablet my eyes get strained in half an hour. Which is why i bought the kindle paperwhite 2021 model. Highly recommend it.
I’ve never had a kindle reader, only a kindle fire tablet and I’m torn between buying an oasis or the new paperwhite coming out in a couple weeks 🥲 maybe I’ll just do the new paperwhite bc I’ve been seeing a lot of things abt the oasis battery life and sometimes the lighting and display and blah blah but I want the buttons ??!!? but it’s so expensive grrr maybe I’ll jus buy the paperwhite and then the oasis whenever the new one comes out 🤔
If you pay full price for the oasis I would monitor the battery in the return window and swap it out for the signature edition paperwhite with the same warm light feature if you like it. If you don't then do the basic paperwhite. I honestly keep switching between both device and mostly miss the warm light feature and not the buttons.
The Onyx Boox devices and Boyue Likebook devices have android built in so you can read any ereader app on them except of course Apple IBooks. They are eink devices. I have a Onyx Boox Poke 2 Color and I have all my book apps on that so I don't have to read certain books on my tablet since my kindles, nook, and kobo don't support some of the reading apps I use. I can read hoopla books, Google playbooks, and all my other ebooks on it. It's also in color, and I have used this to read a graphic novel which is great.
I know your asking Chan but I’ll say mine after indexing does better but still half the batter or 1/3 of my paperwhite and I’m constantly keeping the WiFi off.
@@adele5829 so far no issues. I guess it’s how you use the device. If you leave it open and don’t let it sleep when not in use the battery might drain.
I always pick the "non-techy" reviews. lol I don't need specs that I don't understand, I need relatable everyday person. Thanks for this.
I’m glad it was helpful!
I absolutely love my oasis. Also, If you ask amazon to remove the ads for you and make sure your kindle is updated, you can now opt to show the cover of the current book you’re reading show on the sleep screen which I thinking is pretty cool.
I know I gotta update mine for the new cover thing! I love that option now.
That works for the Paperwhite too.
(My Signature version comes standard with 32GB.)
The all new Paperwhite and Paperwhite Signature Edition seem to overall be better values than the Oasis since they both now offer 95% and 98% of all the features of the Oasis.
Yes! Digital helps so much with the puke up of books 😅 I can buy my favorites now and not worry as much.
I have a Paperwhite. I'd wondered about the Oasis, but now I know it’s not what I’m looking for. Thanks for this video. It was really helpful.
Glad it was helpful 💖
😂😂 reading one handed because you’re reading romance!!! I’m dead
💀 I mean the jokes right there had to make it
Thank you. I appreciate your review. Please keep doing these, you're great! Big time help for me while making my decision.
been waiting for this ehhe 💜i hear a new kindle oasis should be coming out soon so i am very intrigued by that!
I am really hopeful we get a new model soon with more reliable battery.
You are liiiiterally me regarding your reading habits!! From the amount of books to the time daily to being an exclusively digital reader. I also had the keyboard and now have the paper white!
ha reading twins! 💖 The paperwhite is such a killer device.
Isabelle, thank you for this video. I was on the fence and you've pushed me over the edge with your review. Really appreciate you taking the time and being so thorough. You're great.
Your welcome name I hope you love your kindle!
This review is lit and I have the Paperwhite 4. Makes reading extremely fun and convenient. I’ve even re-bought so many of the books I physically own just to have them on my Kindle Paperwhite lol
It’s so nice having any book you want on you all the time isn’t it?
@@HappyforNow that’s exactly right it sure is! My main reason for getting the Paperwhite is bc I travel a lot and got so tired of having lots of books in my carry-on backpack lol. This was the perfect solution and now it seems weird that my backpack has a TON of space now lol
@@HappyforNow You’re the 3rd person I saw talk about Goodreads, I downloaded it now!
Thank you for your honest review. I will stick to my Paperwhite , I enjoy the battery life. I read on the the train to and from work, in my backyard and at the beach. I will keep the Oasis in mind for my friends who has hand problems as an option for them. Again Thanks and Happy Reading
Glad it was helpful💖
I've been trying to hold off on buying the oasis since my paperwhite still works just fine. But goshhhh I want to get one.
I do really like the extra features but if you have a paperwhite that works fine for now I wouldn't rush into upgrading until a new version comes out.
Same!! But I'm not a power reader. I barely read on my kindle. So I am trying to be strong and hold off lol.
I currently have oasis, but i downgraded to paperwhite. I personally don’t like the grip in oasis
Great video. I appreciate your kindle reviews. They helped with my decision to buy a paperwhite 4.
I bought an Oasis and it's great. I like how I can flip it and switch back and forth.
This came right on time, because I currently have an Oasis sitting in my cart, b/c my friend convinced me to get one. So I've been looking into getting one.
Heck yes for good timing!
I hope you love it! I really am enjoying it for the most part. I can't do ipad reading outside my comics/manga. It'll definitely help with eyestrain
We just get a standard ugly picture LOL
Just an interesting observation :)
I paid full price for mine (over $300 CDN)... actually hubby did as it was a gift, so I can't complain too much
Awesome video as usual!
Thanks for the video. Definitely want the Oasis. Will wait on new model hopefully battery life will improve
Definitely a good plan! I’m hopeful we will have news on a new model this year 🤞🏻
🥰 I still want an oasis even after the paper whites newest upgrade.
To start - I just love the size and the speed - that little bit of extra room really does feel much more like a real book
and I love that everything you do on it is lightning fast and responds instantly.
Even the newest Paperwhite from 2018 feels super slow in comparison.
I also love the buttons - suddenly I NEVER use touch anymore lol
The feel of it is also great - it feels light and airy and fits perfectly in your hand.
However -
You are definitely correct about the battery!
As you pointed out - it is significantly worse than the Paperwhite.
That took a little while to get used to but it is still acceptable to me - I charge it once or twice a week or so and that seems fine.
But to me all of the other improvements make up for that and
whenever I try to go back to my Paperwhite I end up really missing all the bells and whistles of my Oasis.
So if you are a big reader and really love reading with an ereader -
I really think the Oasis is just the best in class and worth every penny!
Would it leave a mark if I wanna take off the pop sock it I wanna get one but don’t want to ruin the back of the kindle
I haven’t had an issue. You can definitely use undu or goo gone for any residue left
so this might be kinda late and slightly off topic.... but so glad i found this video. i've been hemming and hawing about getting an e-reader/kindle and specifically what model. and thanks to your recommendation as to what and where to purchase one, i was able to buy a kindle paperwhite 4 with 32gb for $80 (with a coupon) from unclaimed baggage. it was probably one of the best steals of my life. super stoked at finding a 32gb for that price. thank you!
Your welcome! I’m glad you got one at such a deal! You’ll love the paperwhite!
@@HappyforNow i can't wait to get my hands on it! i've been checking for shipping updates! i've already placed a couple holds in my library's libby ebook section
The design and buttons of the Oasis make it a extremely easy no-go for me, then you added about the battery 👀 lol. Paperwhite is my fav 🔥
I love the buttons it’s the only reason I use it 😅 the batter makes it not worth it though
I only upgraded cause I love to read in the tub and got tired of the ziploc bag. But otherwise I don't think the upgrade is worth it yet really.
Even when I use a kickstand though I don’t really notice it 🤷🏻♀️
Wow! What a huge difference in your reviews vs others . I subscribed immediately bc I want a “ non tech “ reviews !
Want a READER review !
I’m so glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this !! I’ve always wondered about the difference!
Yes! It’s not a big difference as you’d expect for the price I think!
I love my paperwhite! Glad you tested for all of so I know not to upgrade 💙
💖💖💖
I have to charge my oasis like every other day 😩apparently I read too much haha. I think it's worth it for the buttons though
I love the buttons but same issue when I use it regularly. Sometimes it’s daily which is why I switched to the paperwhite I can’t be interrupted in my reading time
I love the kindle paper white easy on eye hands it’s perfect 🤩
Sounds like a nice device, I'm going to keep my paperwhite for now. This video makes me want to read my paperwhite now.
Paperwhite has been the top choice for a reason. I mean it's all I read on for the last 4 years.
I got the kindle paperwhite and I'm totally satisfied with it :)
It’s such a great ereader it’s awesome 🙌🏻
I might check Unclaimed Baggage and see if I can find one. The price is why I currently have the basic Kindle. I really want the warm light and buttons on the Oasis though.
It was a great deal on it but just be prepared for the battery issues. I definitely like it but I would have returned if I paid Amazon price for it 😅
Excellent review 👍🏽. Made my decision easy
I hope you enjoy it! The screen is stunning!
I 100% keep my paperwhite (it’s the waterproof one) near by to switch out when my oasis dies 😅 if I’m having a late night reading session especially
should I Upgrade from kindle 2018 to kindle oasis 2021?
I am really confused, but I am bored of this small text screen.
what would you all recommend?
thanks
I wouldn’t. The new kindle has a bigger screen and is still cheaper. The only oasis difference now is the buttons.
So, they just put the Paperwhite on sale for $79 if you order using alexa. It'll be here father's day! So excited!
Yay thank you for this!
💖💖
Yes paper white battery is awesome 🤩
Seriously I rarely charge it!
Very good review. I have a question though. Can you feel the difference of weight between the Oasis and the Paperwhite? Because I know the Oasis is heavier. But I'd like to know how do you feel it.
With a case no I don’t notice a difference. The paperwhite is definitely slightly lighter overall but not wildly noticeable.
@@HappyforNow Thanks a lot! I want to update my paperwhite yo the Oasis and that is something important to me.
You can’t disable the buttons but you can easily hold in a way and not hit the buttons I feel like.
I also love the flexibility of taking my PW or oasis with me everywhere i go they both honestly take up about the same space.
thank you for convincing me to hold out and wait for an upgraded oasis! 👻
Of course! I think it'll be worth the wait for more battery life if you spend a lot of time reading.
Very thorough review. Thank you
Your welcome!
I’ve heard the contrast is poor on the Paperwhite, but I don’t like the asymmetrical look of the Oasis. Is it very noticeable when you hold it?
I don’t think the contrast is bad at all on the paperwhite, but when I’m holding the oasis the asymmetry isn’t noticeable because of how you hold you.
Personal pan pizza time sounds like something I need in my life.
Yeah the battery is so bad! Oh I really need to think about trying a cover cut off to make it a little easier to read with!
@@HappyforNow I uploaded a video showing my Oasis with cover. 15sec.
ua-cam.com/video/Edyrm778ZBw/v-deo.html
Does the larger screen use up more battery life? The paperwhite has 5 LEDs while the oasis has 25. I have had the Kindle Voyage since 2015. It has the page-turner buttons on each side and fits into my pocket. I think that the next paperwhite should include page-turners.
I managed to get through a single 26 hour reading session with my Oasis and finished it with 13%, so you can definitely stretch the battery life depending on the settings.
Interesting. I have done some testing on my model and that is definitely basically impossible unless I want to read with no backlight. It seems like every models battery varies from my friends who also have the device (we all either have no battery life or no issue)
you would look so cute with a middle part and curtain bangs!!
🥰
Regarding reading romance/smutty books. You don't happen to know if there is some sort of book club for us anywhere? Maybe a smutty book club on facebook etc? I have just gotten into reading again after a loooong time and would love to be able to talk to more people regarding the books. Especially smutty and romantic ones lol xo
I don’t really use Facebook so I’m not good for that but I have a discord for romance linked in the description and if you more interested in taboo there is the taboo book club hosted by Library of Tomes. That is also on a discord server.
@@HappyforNow Oh I would love to join, will do so right away. Thank you!
@@HappyforNow thanks for replying! I think I will wait for now and see if Amazon plans to release a new version of the paperwhite.
I read outside a lot, how is it in sunlight? (my current kindle is 10 years old (and is starting to get a little finicky) and has no lights in it (I think its a g4))👻
It's just like all the other kindles there is no issue in sunlight since it's not a tablet screen 💖
I’m still using my kindle keyboard. What happened too yours?😬
I read 100s of books a year it wore out eventually with use
This is a lot more useful than a tech review.
Thank you ☺️
I've never bought a kindle I'm looking into which one I want and I'm thinking the paperwhite but I've seen that it has a weird glitch where it goes black evertime you touch the screen.. has anyone had this issue
I have had multiple paperwhites and never seen this issue honestly.
Could you please link that pink oasis cover , it’s not linked
Sorry! Adding it and the one I’m using now. The one in the video cracked and broke.
I got a basic kindle and treated myself to an upgrade to the paperwhite! I want the oasis, but only for the buttons.
The buttons are so nice but not worth the extra cost for just that 💖
Loved this. I just bought a kindle oasis and I love it 👻

Do you think the Oasis has less battery because it has cellular?
Such great info!!!

The battery on your oasis could be lasting less time than paperwhite because it could have been in the unclaimed baggage room for a couple of months. Sometimes cold can make batteries degrade a little bit quicker.
Oo good point it’s improved after it indexed all my books but still seems on par with my friends who also have an oasis now 🤷🏻♀️
@@HappyforNow. I had the the oasis for nearly 2 years and have recently purchased the kobo forma which has an 8 inch screen which is 1 inch bigger than the screen on the oasis.
Get a kobo and you'll be happy, they don't limit features on a device when it gets old and it's much more open than Amazon's Kindle ecosystem
Can anyone tell me about the memory? I would love to buy digital books but I don't know about memory space?
Ebooks are not very big overall so you won’t run into an issue as far as storage unless you are downloading audiobooks (I don’t recommend the kindle as an audiobook device)
@@HappyforNow Thank you. Me personally I've never really liked audiobooks. I prefer to read and imagine the voices 😄, however when I go to certain places (like dental apptms.) I can't sit down and read some books because of the "covers". So a friend recommend me an e-reader but I'm worried I will run out of space when buying books.
@@cristalramirez5312 you won’t if you aren’t keeping every single read book on the device. I have a couple hundred on my device all the time 😄
I would like an oasis thank you for this video
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I’m gonna wait to see about the new oasis but if that one sucks i’ll just get a paperwhite. tired of reading on my phone though.
The transition from phone to kindle is amazing. It definitely makes it easier to read longer. The paperwhite was my constant for the last however many years that model has existed. It’s definitely a solid option either way.
Can I use the oasis in a sauna room?
Both are waterproof so most likely yes I have never tried honestly.
I bought an older model refurbished Paperwhite from Amazon for $45. All in all with the case and kindle i paid less than $50.
Nice! That's a really great deal on a Paperwhite!
Are there different sizes of the kindle oases?
8 GB and 32 GB are the only size options for the oasis.
@@HappyforNow No, I meant inches.
No all oasis' are the same size physically
@@HappyforNow Oh ok. TY!
That's great. But in my opinion a Kindle paperwhite 2021 is better than a Kindle oasis.
I have both of them. Definitely Oasis is a great stuff however at the moment I use only paperwhite 2021.
My oasis sits for back up basically on the off chance I have an issue with my paperwhite at this point.
So I read on my kindle app on my phone.... I have the Samsung galazy fold 2.... I can't find a real reason to consider a Kindle device.
For me it’s the distraction free experience that is beneficial but they aren’t for everyone.
No that's true.
@@HappyforNow okay !! thanks for responding 💙 this was my first vid of yours n I was subscribed
thank you for the review! It really helped me decide to want for an oasis because I'm trying to read more and my phone is just not able to keep up! 👻👻
Glad it helped!
Are you able to use scribd and hoopla on it?
No this isn’t a tablet reader it’s just the kindle which is not compatible with scribd or hoopla.
Looking to get a Kindle soon.
I haven’t regretted any of mine 💖
I've been thinking about upgrading but I think I'm gonna have to wait for the better battery 😔 That autorotate though... my tendonitis is shook!
The auto rotate has been a game changer for my hands I'm not gonna lie. I love that part so much.
👻. I’ve been tempted but I’ll wait for better battery life
Good plan for sure! I am doing some more testing to be sure I have a good idea on the battery life when I do a check in 6 months.
I have the oasis (latest model) and my battery lasts for about 1.5 weeks. I read about 2 hours a day.
@@chanpersaud9930 so you don’t have any issues with the battery life?
I know your asking Chan but I’ll say mine after indexing does better but still half the batter or 1/3 of my paperwhite and I’m constantly keeping the WiFi off.
@@adele5829 so far no issues. I guess it’s how you use the device. If you leave it open and don’t let it sleep when not in use the battery might drain.
Only upgrading for the warm light since I like to read a lot at night. If the Paperwhite had this, I wouldn’t get the Oasis at all lol
I like your video. no need to flip your hair. it looks good.
