Toyota GR Yaris | Road Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 гру 2020
- The Toyota GR Yaris was designed to be the contender for the 2021 World Rally Championship title. But then certain world-changing events happened and it was canned. But thankfully what Toyota didn't cancel was the road version. Thus a 260PS, 360Nm, four-wheel-drive version of the Yaris arrived on our shores in late 2020. There is very little that connects the GR Yaris to the original Yaris. Even the name, GR, tells you that this is something special. Since GR stands for Gazoo Racing, Toyota's motorsport team that has dominated Le Mans and the WRC for the last few years.
We were lucky enough to get our hands on the Toyota GR Yaris for a full test drive around the roads of Sussex to see if it really lives up to all the hype. Is this a true WRC car for the road? Or has it all been overplayed?

The best hot hatch on sale now?
Having recently had my 182 Trophy written off and tested the usual suspects, for Motorway hauls with 3 kids and five suitcases, no (literally not physically possible) For B road blasts in the wet (ie, a lot of England) oh yes. Never put cash down so quick.
Nice. The convenience pack car is probably nicer for people not intending to track, it's better able to cope with bumps, less fidgety
@@mad4tar77 I'm one of those people 😉👍
oh yeah the best car of the year
If you told me 3 years ago when I bought my Focus RS that I'd lust after a 3 pot Yaris in 2020 I'd tell you where to go but this year is so bonkers... and I've got one on order due May 2021 and I cannot wait! Won't have the same outright grunt but I'm sure it will be more usable on the average British B road anyway.
Hope your enjoying yours as much as I am enjoying mine!
@@Cernunn0s90 oh yes! Owned for 2 years now and still loving it. Made even better by an exhaust, induction kit and remap
I love your explanation of the driving experience. It might have been hard to put into words how it feels but I could imagine what it was like through your words
No, this is a car that looks, feels and drives like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and it’s the only real heiress of the Japanese magic. Best car of 2020 in all cars not only the hot hatch, real deal. Thanks for sharing. Hope Toyota will extend production and offer it for longer time so more people can have a peace of that cake. 👍🚗
Superb, articulate, clear, and informative review.
Just bought one too. April delivery. Went to test drive it and walked out having bought one!
It's a Yarolla !! Nice review, want one, with the softer suspension setup of the convenience pack
You're a bit late to the party I've already bought one.
Had any Ford Focus RS's or Mercedes A45 AMG's, bury you yet Lol??
@@Mexxx65 every journalist praised this thing for being more fun to drive than any hot hatch out there except the civic type r which they say is just as fun, all people care about nowadays is how fast a car can go without realizing you can be a lot slower and have more fun
This is why true drivers cars are dying
Because if this mentality
Even in auto car’s review the journalist said this is more fun to drive than any new supercar out there, heck mat watson is planning on trading his 996 911 for one of these
It’s not about the speed, it’s about having fun
I dare you to try driving a modern performance car like a new M5 for instance under the speed limit and have any sort of fun at all
GR is killing it
4:54 incorrect. Normal mode is 60 front and 40 rear. Just FYI.
Yup. we know. Just a miss-speak we didn't notice in the edit.
If your under 5ft 7 the rear seats are brilliant, plenty of room. At 6ft the leg room was fine for me with a 6ft driver its the head room that lests it down.
Is 25 000 cars enough for the world. Toyota would have to keep on producing more of the GR YARIS.
I never thought I wanted a Yaris so badly
and a 3 pot, crazy but awesome tho😍
How is forza horizon 4 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
@@olavofernandes7286 who knows I wouldn't waste my time on that garbage I only race on proper simulators.
@@jasoncee666 I am just trolling with that guy
Oh yeah yeah 🤟 good looking car imo
Got my test drive on Tuesday! Woo hoo!!!!
Pop a grand down now or you'll be waiting till October the way this is going. Do the drive anyway of course!
@@portland573 I've already secured a white circuit pack GR with £250 for some time in April.
then walked out later buying one....
Thats pretty great actually. Maybe Honda will come back with a proper cr-z to compete
This is awd
This neeeeeeds to be in Forza
And I really like it, just a cool car, I would love to drive such a car, no problem at all, a very worthy option, I'm waiting, waiting, waiting, I would buy myself without remorse
GR Corolla in the US 🙏🏽
Was told yesterday GR Yaris in 2021 for US
@@chriskelvin248 was that from someone credible?
@@Jamstig83 I have to be careful what I say. My contact is someone in sales who is a true car enthusiast. On his third modded STI. We have spoken at length about the GRY and he knows damn well what it is. So the question is, do we trust HIS source? It was a company source and not another guy at the water cooler at the dealership. Let's discuss this again in 12 months. We know how the US market sometimes gets the shaft in these performance variants. I just might trade in my Golf R for this.
Interior isn't bad at all.
GR alright, but what happened to TRD?
So much PR talk. The bodyshell is homologated, pretty much everything else (including the AWD system!) is not based on a road car in any way.
PS:
I'd love to see Mäkkinen's idea, an AWD Yaris Coupé would be a dream come true.
A heap of tech in this little bugger.... But I don't know about the "bang for buck"? 🤔
If it's a fridge, what's a vw polo
der Kühlschrank
Camera is over here bud
This car have a Sat Nav + Android Auto and Apple Carplay support
Android and Apple integration on all trims (plus reversing camera) why spend on a satnav when your phone will always be better anyway?
Toyota əla avtomobildir amma bəzi xırda detalları unudur kopota 2 ədəd amartizator qoysun bu bahalı avtomobildir axı salonunda tərtibatı zəif olur çox vaxt
For us Yanks how much horsepower and torque .
257hp and 266 tq. Not that it matters much since we won't get it here.
@@Topher7527 my dealer emailed me yesterday saying they were told by corporate that we are in 2021
@@chriskelvin248 Beautiful news. Hopefully they'll bring in a fair few.
modification to wrc👍
Sounds like this guy was reviewing a fridge.
that vehicle is millennial proof. and theft proof. being a six stick. with three pedals.
Future collectors car :)
Ha I was born in 1991.. I've ordered one. Why theft proof?
Born in '96, red circuit pack ordered, we're not all incapable of driving proper cars.
Puzzled why Toyota named a fast and exciting car after a slow and dull car of which it shares almost nothing?
Marketing peeps, putting the b in bonkers since ever...
Cheap Insurance, 197 quid for me. 52 full no claims
@@royc8587 Ummmm.. what does your insurance have to do with the naming of the GR?
@@royc8587 Genius. The GRMN is pretty cheap too.
@@CathodeRayNipplez exactly lol, the insurance company takes the value of the vehicle into account. The name is irrelevant
Great car, absolutely dreadful commentator
But a decent Ford Focus RS AWD, or an old Audi TT RS, would bury this little 3-potter...............and save you a lot of money!!!!
And by the way why didn't Citroen with their C3 WRC or Ford with their Fiesta WRC or Hyundai with their i20 WRC, have to make 25 thousand road going AWD versions of their cars???
"Unlike the requirements for the preceding Group A cars, manufacturers were no longer required to build "homologation specials" in order to meet approval. The base model did not need to have all the characteristics of the WRC car, as evidenced from cars such the Peugeot 206, 307, Citroën Xsara, and Škoda Fabia, which during this period had no road car variant with a turbocharged petrol engine or four-wheel-drive."-wiki
Some people just want a homologation special. I can’t get a Sierra rs500 or integrale or 22b etc, I could go buy this GR4 now. Also the warranty is 10 years here so it’s even more tempting as a long term prospect.
Who's this PC hipster? Ffs mate do your homework if you're going to be a car reviewer. Normal mode doesn't send 60% to the back 🤣🤣
At least the written story got it right
PC Hipster reporting for duty.
(You got us, we made a mistake)
@@GoodwoodRR 🤣👍
I don’t like this guys presenting style.
Boring
No such thing as boring cars, only boring drivers.
Oh my sweet summer child...
